Well, I called my local Volvo dealer today to inquire about the leather brake handle many here have installed for about $25.

He checked the system for the part number referenced here several times:

Leather Brake Handle 8624680-8

However, my dealer said that part# was no longer available, and the system now directed him to part# 8683325 which is now $79.88

I've got an email off to Jon at www.borton.com so am investigating there as well, but am curious if anyone else has any info on this, or where one might still get the handle for a reasonable price.

Wow, prices have really shot up since then. Dealer here confirms the same part # change, Al. Sorry. A whopping $124 Cdn.

Hope that you have better luck with Borton.

Interestingly I just heard the following from John at Bolton:

Hello Al,

For the trim on the visors, the pricing will not change, but to get the correct one I will need the VIN code on your car. The front door panel handles (part #’s 8658964 and 8658965) for the “R” models will fit in the standard models, but are currently only available in the graphite (dark grey) with blue stitching. The leather handles range from $23.65 to $61.27, depending on the chassis break on the vehicle (last 6 numbers of the VIN code). The ‘R’ brake handle is priced at $24.84, and like the door pull handles they are dark grey with blue stitching.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Thank you.

So it looks like a handle may be available, but you'd have to have the grey/graphite interior for it to really match potentially... mostly due to the blue stitching.

It's too bad on the door handles as well though. I was really hoping they had a color that would match. I'll have to double check on that though, as I know someone posted a photo of tan/taupe leather door handles.

Hey Al. Did you ever have any luck tracking down an appropriate leather brake handle?

I replaced mine, but for the life of me I can't remember the part number. I don't think it's from an R though. I don't think the stitching is blue. I wanted to get the door handle covers from the R, but I was afraid the blue stitching wouldn't match the subtle blue stitching in my XC.

Frankly, the new handle wasn't much of an improvement, but here is a picture of it:
