Hello, I'm new to this forum and have some questions and would like some advice if you please.

Here's my story:

1. I bought a 2001 V70XC used at 55kmi, it now has 77kmi.
2. Everthing was ok until a few months ago when I had a flat tire and ended up driving about 50 miles to get new tires put on. I used the small spare tire to get me to a tire dealer.
3. The new tires are "Cooper Lifeliner, Touring SLE" types and the car now rides like a dream, very quiet and smooth. I love these tires.
4. About a week later my transmission started to slip a little and within a few days a "Transmission Service Required" message came on and then 2 miles later the transmission failed completely and the car became undriveable. $3200 later, a new (rebuilt) transmission was installed by the dealer. The first replacement they put in didn't work, so they tried again with a second replacement which seems ok. The new transmission however, isn't as smooth as the original and at times lurches between gears which is irritating and concerns me. The dealer told me that Volvo warrantys parts for only 12 months, which to me seems pretty weak for a transmission. I can only hold my breath and hope for the best I guess.
5. Here I am about 3 weeks into the new transmission and all sorts of other problems are popping up. I get intermittant ABS service required warnings. I also just saw a "Check Emmisions System" warning message. My cruise control all of a sudden doesn't work either. On top of that, when I lock my car with the keyless remote, the parking lights no longer flash.

Are these problems related? Could they have been cause by something being disconnected during the transmission replacement, or they just coincidental? Do I need a new ABS unit? How about the ETM?

Other than these horrific problems, I love the comfort, ride, and ergonomics of this car. I'm wondering how to get these problems fixed without filing for bankruptcy in the process, and whether I should hang onto the car or dump it and move on to another brand. I'm also wondering if I get these these problems fixed whether I should be over the "known problems" hump and expect long, trouble free performance for the next 100k miles.

Any analysis/advice is greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Dave

ABS Unit. Maybe the control module is not senting a signal to the unit. First off all. http://www.volvoxc.com/resources/how-to/pdf/2001_XC_Control_Module_Replacement.pdf

Did you get any DTCs from the PCM, telling you what's wrong with the car?

Check Emission System indicator: could be many things, such as CAT, PCV, Charcoal Canister, EVAP system, EGR(if equipped), O2 Sensor, etc.

I would suggest just bring the car to the dealer or a local Volvo specialist shop to find what's wrong with the XC. That is some what electrical problems.

I just removed all of the fuses, checked them and reinstalled. I also removed all of the relays in the fuse box under the hood and reinstalled them to make sure the connections were'nt loose. Now my cruise control works and parking lights flash when I lock the car.

I don't know what you mean by "DTCs" or "PCM".

hanks,
