Anyone in the Minneapolis area put on Nokian WRs (235/60/16)? We need new tires on the 04XC70 already and want to put these on but of the three dealers in the Twin Cities area that carry them, the lowest price for all 4 installed is $825. Anyone find a better deal?

Thanks,
Jon

That's about $200 more than I paid for the same set of tires, i.e., rip off. Go to your local Discount Tires and have them order a set. If you'd like to order directly yourself, clicking this will take you to Tire Factory:

http://www.nokiantire.com/

When I called them about three weeks ago, a very helpful guy told me that they're selling the Nokian WR in 235/60/16 at $148.99 per tire. Since I didn't want them to ship them to me, I asked the Discount Tires to order a set for me. Turned out they ordered a set from a local Nokian dealer, which was selling a set at higher price. The Discount Tires then charged me $10 per tire for dismounting the old tires, mounting the new and balancing them. When I asked them to live up their company name of "Discount," they took $20 off (hey, it's not a lot, but I saved myself a nice dinner... ;) ), so I ended up paying $143 per tire.

That friendly guy at Tire Factory told me that lately there were lot of request for Nokian WR's.

I have never dealt with them and they seem to generate mixed emotions but Ronal is offering WR's mounted on their wheels for pretty good prices. They don't list the 235/60-16 or the 215/65-16 but they show 225/60-16 mounted on wheels as low as $869 plus shipping. See: http://www.ronalusa.com/05winter.html

Might be worth a call.

What part of the TC are you in? I bought my 225/65/16 for my Honda Odyssey from Discount Tire in Plymouth (494/6). Give Dave a call (he is the manager) and ask him what he can sell them for. He gave me a GREAT deal. He quoted me a much cheaper price than what you have been quoted.

Thanks, didn't realize they sold Nokians at Discount Tire as they aren't listed as a dealer on the Nokian website...We've got one real close in Shakopee so I'll go check it out.

If your local Discount Tires doesn't carry Nokians (most likely they don't), they're willing to order for you.

As SYS said, they usually don't. The person I buy from knows the distributor in the TC so he got me a really good deal. Not sure if all Discount Tire locations can get them.

Finally made it in to Discount Tire yesterday and they wanted $220 a tire!! No thanks but maybe I'll give the Plymouth location a call and see if they can do better.

When I bought my Michelin Pilot Alpin PA tires at Discount, I saw that they had the WRs at $140 each.

I just picked up winter tires (Dunlop M3's) AND WHEELS for less than that from Tire Rack! Ronal still shows WR's AND WHEELS for less than that too but in a 225/60/16 (http://www.ronalusa.com/05winter.html they say call for other sizes). Tire Rack and Ronal prices are both before shipping but shipping pretty much equals sales tax for me. I can't speak for Ronal -- no personal experience and I've seen some negative comments. My only connection with Tire Rack is several orders all with no less than a good experience.

BTW, after just 200 miles on the M3's I have to say they feel better than any of the previous studless snows I've run. But they are the first H series snows I've used too.

Don't know how much this helps, but those US prices seem a bit high. I just bought/installed the Nokian WR 225's in Calgary from a local chain tire shop and paid $900 Canadian for them. Based on past experience and the recently strengthened C$, I would guess you should be about 25% cheaper in absolute dollars.
