Excuse me for posting this here and not in "Off Topic" but I thought it interesting and humorous enough to post.

This is one flight I'm glad I wasn't on. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

The issue we have in protecting our cars from flying rocks and other road debris pales in comparison to what this Boeing 737 had to contend with http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I don't think a 40 mil Mylar film would do much good for this .Boeing 737 in Heavy Thunderstorm (http://home.quicknet.nl/qn/prive/f.braaksma/)

Reminds me of a storm I flew through in a little Cesna out of the bush in Central America... it was pretty rough, so we decended...keeping REALLY low (skimming the top of the rainforest canopy)...and when we landed, the pilot looked out the window, laughed, grabbed his ducktape under the seat, and hopped out to "fix" the wing. "Just a little hole... No big deal." Yeah, whatever.

WoW!

I went to the link, the people on that plane were blessed to get out of that plane alive.  A well placed blow in a crucial place such as at the base of the horizontal stab or damage to the vertical stab could have put that plane down the hard way.   Seen that happen once, don't ever want to see that again.

What's the material of construction for the windshield on that 737? It seems like it did a very good job against the flying object.  Must be bullet proof too.
