We just picked up our xc70 last week.
I noticed a bit vibrations @ freeway speed around 70MPH, so I brought the car back today and asked them to balance the tires, what they did without any
comments.
After work i pick up the car and drive around a little on the freeway I feel the vibritions again.
Does anyone have this kind of problems?
Please help.
Thanks

Hmmm - could be one of many things. I would keep taking it back to dealership for them to fix. Also, take out one of their demo '05s and see if it vibrates like yours on freeway sections you normally travel. Good luck. Your dealership should be doing everything possible to make you and your XC70 HAPPY.

Try to set the steering wheel into another position, in some places it makes vibration.
You should have measured the suspension and adjusted the wheels as well, and not only the tires. Good luck.

XC70Geo,
I would like to talk to the dealer about your suggestions.
But can you expain more to me about:
-"...measured the suspension and adjusted the wheels..."-
Thank you for your help.

Toe: wheel out or in

Last saturday I took the car back to the dealer ship again for a test drive
with a Volvo mechanic.
Just after few seconds on the freeway he admitted there was 'some'
vibration on the car and suggested to ordser a new set tires for my car.
It looked like to me, we are playing lottery :) .
I hope that will fix the problem.

Do you have another dealer nearby?

Mine does the same thing at about 130 kilometers (78 mph) BUT it kept doing it after new tires and a new rack and pinion system at 31,000 miles. It does in next week for replacement of the plastic side rails because all the paint has come off. (And the ECM was done a thousand miles ago) however it is still a great car, but the vibration just makes it less fun to drive longer distances.

Funny Audi keeps coming up, I am thinking of buying an A6 instead of an S60 next year, but we are going to keep our XC70.

I am thinking a car is not great if you feel the vibration @ 70MPH-80MPH.
This is the speed we drive alot in the US (most of the time :) ).
The xc70 is a fun-to-drive car in the city. But If you have a chance to
drive the Subaru Outback or the Toyota Highlander you will see, they are
even better. And on the freeway they are both quiet and smooth.

But on the other side the XC70 looks 10.000 times better!

I bought the XC70 because I hope for better performance!!!
But sofar after the first 500MI I am not sure. Maybe it is too early to tell.
I will update you guys.

Back to XC70Geo: Yes we have only one Volvo dealer in town.

Hrudu, sorry to say, but I think you could not drive the right car. I drive my XC70 on highway, the best car ever. Better then my wife's BMW. I drive at 200 km/h and feel like in my living room, smooth, stable, and have more power if needed.
Can you find another dealer and have some tests?

XC70Geo;
I drove a 2000 xc70 a couple of times in europe @ 190-210kmh too.
I know your living room feeling.
But now I have problem @ 75mph with a 2005 xc70 model !
The dealer just ordered new tires for the car.
I will update you guys soon.

The dealer just replaced the tires with a new set
And you know what?
The vibration is 95% gone

:) I realy feel volvo now :)

It must be quite a relief that the car now behaves as it should :)
Did the dealer replace the tires by the same type/brand as the vibrating ones?
If so, it's bad news for the quality control and production consistency of the manufacturer!

Hi Willy;
I asked for someting else,
But they said NO!
Anyway, I feel VOLVO now :D .

I agree, most important is that the problem is gone! That it were "only" the tires is perhaps not so bad, better that than a more substantial part of the car (which would perhaps not have "restored" the way you feel about the car now :))

Update to my vibration story.

I took it back for the Volvo dealer to re-balance tires and check allignment for second time in one week. (This is after they put the new tires on my car about a month ago).

They took it next door to Chrystler dealer and used their balancing equipment, and the Chrystler dealer said the tires were slightly out of balance and they rebalanced them.

The volvo dealer is going to have their machine re-calibrated/checked out, and my Volvo drives great, no vibration at all, only slightly at 120-125 mph, which is faster than I drive anyway.

I am sooo happy. :p
