I know there are some eyelets in the cargo area.
Are these eyelets placed on the floor only (the four corners) or are there some located on the side walls for example?
I would like to know this since I have seen a picture of a vertical net attached at the back of the trunk (unfortunately I can't recall where I saw it http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif ) Perhaps it is not an original accessory but it has to be attached somehow  http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/huh2.gif
Thanks,
Willy

I believe you are looking at a first Gen XC of which I also have one. The rear has side tubular supports around which two mesh baskets are attached. Your rear net attaches to these. This arrangement is not for the 2nd gen XC. -Dick

Willy:

I have an MY2002 V70 XC AWD loaner car in my garage and I just took a look at where the cargo hooks/rings are. There are 4 of them in the far lower corners of the floor area. There are none above floor level that I could see.

For the pic you showed I suspect it would be OK to attach two hooks/rings about 1/2 way up on each rear pillar so that that rear located netting's top edge can be attached. Attaching them to the plastic may not be overly secure but would do the job so long as they weren't pulled on too much.

I don't recall seeing any difference in the MY2003 XC70. Maybe other with MY2003 XC70s can comment for sure on this.

I must admit, I've never seen a rear netting as shown in your pic. If you know where this can be ordered I'd like to get that info as I'm trying to figure a convenient method for stopping my two Fox Terriers from leaping out the back when the hatch is opened. My idea at this time is for them to be each secured with a leash that's around 6' long and attached to separate rear cargo floor located rings. The 6' will give them plenty of slack to move around rear cargo area with the vertical cargo netting installed and enough to not strangle themselves if they do decide to leap out the back. I don't want to have to install the metal framed boxes or carry dog boxes to provide a solution for this, and my wife will require this dog security attachment as the two dogs seem to take advantage of her whenever she's taking them about for their runs etc. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Hello Barry,
Securing a dog was exactly what I whas thinking of when I saw the picture (indeed, even one dog can excape when the hatch is only parly opened, before you could grab him). Since my short term memory is obviously unreliable (I only saved the picture for future reference before I ordered my car) we have to rely on the other forumners to help us out  http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blush.gif Also, Budrichards response means we will have to do some thinkering as well!
Knowing how well-informed XC-ers are I have good hope  about finding the resource of the net http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif

Pictured is the exact net I have in my Suburban.  Not sure if it would work in a Volvo, but it is elasticized and readily available from Chevy.

I could look into part number if you like.

Not sure who those dorks are looking at the back of my truck though!
