I'm just looking for some feed-back on tinting the windows and if it affects the radio antenna. Since I live so close to Nevada, tinting is not an issue, but I want to make sure to get the proper tint that doesn't affect reception. Thanks.

I have tinted windows and antenna works fine.

I had heard the same thing, but when I spoke to several shops before we had our windows tinted, all of them assured me the 37% tint we planned to apply would not interfere with radio reception.

I believe if you go limo-dark (5%) the higher metal content may pose a problem.

They will have to cut circles around the top-center of the radio antenna as the film will not stick to it. If they do a good job, it won't be noticeable.

I have limo tint on mine and don't notice any degredation of signal. Also, don't have any problem with the tint adhering to the window around the antenna. I have been happy with the job that was done. My only complaint is that the tint is too dark at night for the back seat passenger.

I am thrilled to have found this website. I just bought my XC 70 two weeks ago, and had all these questions that are being posted. I live in south Texas. Temperature was 96 today. Did I ever need window tint! Was concerned about the radio reception. Glad I was able to get info here! Not many XC 70s down here. Most are out of state visitors without tint.

37% is the way to go. Just dark enough to do the job and still be able to see out at night. These cars have a big enough blind spot to the back as it is without the tint hampering the veiw too. You will not have reception issues. 5 months, 11857 miles and the reception is always great. On fringe areas you wil notice that if you change direction the signal will fade then come back due to the radio trying both anteneas to see which has the better signal.

I have the dark tint (not sure of precentage) but tough to see in, radio is fine, still pick up as much as friends in other vehicles and this tint is easy to see out of, don't let mis-conseptions stop you from making your wagon look great.

I tinted my windows 20% on driver and passenger doors and 40% (37% not an option here) on the rest. No effect on reception. In hindsight I would have preferred 10% on front doors - easier to see in, seeing out no problem. Looks cool! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Toots,

The laws governing tint in Ontario seem to be a bit vague compared to Alberta. The ruling here states that tint is prohibited on both driver and passenger windows. Mind you, it really doesn't stop people from doing so anyways. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sly.gif

Apparently, in the Province of Nova Scotia, the ruling goes as far as not allowing tint to be installed on a car period. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/huh2.gif

Great source of info guys! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Quite the broad range of shades too, with 37% VLT seeming to be the magic number for many of you. I'm curious to know what guided you in your final decision to select your particular VLT % and did any of your installers offer you film samples to view the varying degrees of shades?

In Wa. state, 35 % is max for a pass. car, you can go darker on rear windows of a SUV.
