Woman saved from serious injury by her Volvo

Published on 09 February 2005 A DRIVER was taken to hospital after her car smashed into a tree.

The woman, believed to be in her 60s and from Saffron Walden, was hurt when her green Volvo left Radwinter Road between Sewards End and Radwinter at 10.15am on Tuesday.

She was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge but her injuries were not serious.

Ambulance technician Simon Ingate said she was saved from serious injury because her Volvo car was so sturdy.

He said: "The car had suffered a severe intrusion in the front.

"Fortunately the driver suffered relatively minor injuries.

"She was complaining of pain in her chest where she struck the steering wheel and from the seatbelt. She also had pain in her right ankle and a laceration to her left knee.

"As a precaution she had a neck collar attached and was placed on a backboard before being taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital for treatment.

"Her husband was taken too. He had not been in the car, but arrived at the scene while the crews were dealing with the lady.

"There is no doubt in my mind that the woman's injuries would have been an awful lot worse had she not been in such a substantial car."

The road was blocked in both directions and the car recovered at 11.15am.

She was luckly she was in a green one  what would have happened if she was in a blue one
