I drove from Green Bay Wisconsin to Knoxville Tennessee and back. With a Thule Evolution 1600 on top of the XC I ended up averaging 24.2 mpg. I was burning 93 octane the whole trip and had the cruise set on 75. The winds were really bad going down because of the Tropical Storm on the East Coast. I was very impressed at the way the XC drove and the speed at which it could maintain. With traffic and construction I averaged 67mph. When I arrived in Knoxville my back did not hurt due to the comfort of the seats and how well they adjust. It was a very nice trip thanks to the comfort of the XC. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Let the wind be always at your back! Sounds great...I'm longing for a good long drive in my xc ever since returning from Sweden!

24mpg with a box and doing 75mph! that's awesome. I can't get 24mpg at that spd w/ my box. Closer to 19. I don't use the cruise control which probalbly accounts for a bit of the difference.
It definately is an awsome car for road trips.

LTW,
Yes, it's a fantastic car ! The family and myself had a little drive during our last Summer Vacation (7300 miles).
With 2 boxes on the roof (Thule Vision) and 4 bikes at the back (2 adults, 2 children, dog and tenting stuff), we did an average of 28 mpg. (9.8Liters/100Km). http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif
