What is your internet connection speed ?

About 2 megabits per second from my home cable modem via Airport on a PowerBook.

About 160 kilobits per second from my PDA on Sprint's CDMA network.

DSL at home at 512K. The worst connection is my roving mode, which is my laptop hooked up the my cell phone's modem at a whopping 14.4K. I have a fast wireless card for hotels, but my boss doesn't think it would be worth it to upgrade my cell phone to 256K, or provide a wireless subscription for other hotspots. Whatever.

Using cable modem at home -- 3 Mbps (3000 Kbps)

I am not an IT guru...But I guess the connection speed also depends on the website you visit...right?

Sure lots of you know this, but maybe will be of interest for someone:

You can test your speed at sites like http://www.dslreports.com

Go to the "Tests and Tools" link and it will be under "Speed Tests". I had to dig a bit to find a server close to my location. Our cable tested out at 2.5Mb/s for download, 169k for upload.

DSL at home, high speed at work, and a Telus Hotspots wireless link in most locations while on the road. At this point we still an AT&T dial phone link at the country place but we will probably upgrade to cable (without the TV!) this summer.

Never have tried to connect to VolvoXC using my Blackberry, but this thread is now going to have me experiment at bit.

On Broadband and just clocked 698.2 Kbps or 85.6 K bytes/sec, should be running on 750Kbps but I guess it all depends on how many people are on it at the same time. Still fast enough for me :D

Using the website suggested by eraas, I'm at 324.5 kbps on my DSL. Very disappointing since I've always assumed a much higher rate.

Using Eraas DSL Reports web site I clocked my d/l clocked at 2.835 Mb/s and the u/l clocked at 0.238 Mb/s. My Comcast service rating is 3 Mbs for d/l and 0.256 for u/l. So I guess I'm close to the rated service levels. I tried several times and had to ask wife and son to stop their internet activities to get the best numbers.

Comcast say they will be upgrading the d/l to 4 Mb/s and u/l to 0.512 Mb/s in my area in Spring 2005 for FREE. :D Could buy this extra today for $10/months but will spring for it in the Spring. ;) There's also some talk about Comcast going to 5 Mb/s. This will mean even more BitTorrent activity which today is reported to be consuming 30% of all internet data traffic for moving TV trailers and Movie files around before they hit retail DVDs - almost makes the TiVo-like devices redundant as people then can view stuff on their computers when they want.

Comcast has a nasty bias (+$15/month) to those who don't subscribe to their Cable TV. :(

P.S. Sorry about getting this off topic.

this is all great information, especially when it comes time for me to deploy new services where bandwidth might come into play.

Your download speed : 1067037 bps, or 1042 kbps.
A 130.2 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 970903 bps, or 948 kbps.

To add, it's also resulted in an email to my ISP, something that has concerned me for a while but which I've learned to live with... My connection is advertised at 5mbit down/1mbit up... uploads are fine but I have done a number of tests in the past and the fastest downloads I can get out of this connection is 2.5mbit using the ISP's test software, and 1.3 using third party systems such as dslreports. Frustrating because the old service was actually faster, and I'm paying a premium for this supposed upgrade.

I just have the regular flavor internet speed likely with the same ISP as you Taylor. With an advertised d/l speed of 3 mbps and u/l speed of 512 kbps, it clocked out a d/l speed for me of 2480 kbps and u/l of 456 kbps.

yep, Art we have the same ISP and there's definitely something up with my connection.... I've tested it out a number of times in the past 12 hours, including once at 3am when I'm sure next to no one is on the local network, and I could not get above 3mbit with their testing software, which is the speed they offer with their standard package. I guess my package was never upgraded... :S

I may be amongst the lucky ones with a fast cable connection! :)

Your download speed : 4459130 bps, or 4354 kbps.
A 544.3 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 653139 bps, or 637 kbps.

Not as fast as I'd like on the upload side though... :(

Other: wireless (Motorola radio) broadband. I pay for 1000 down/400 up. I have seen download test in the 3000s but am often more like 900 down, 800 up.

Funny thing is at home I use a software tool called IPSec to tunnelthrough into my work's network and I get a better connection rate at home than at my workplace..

Hm: and I get a better connection rate at home than at my workplace..

This is very common. Same thing here and with everyone I work with. Many of my customers see the same thing too.

Sometimes I think I get better throughput downloading email on my Treo 650 than I do downloading email sitting at work on my PC.

I'm on Shaw Cable here in Vancouver, I usually get about 4mbit down and 850-900kps up. I've been fortunate that I was on the initial test rollout of Cable internet here in vancouver, then switched over to ADSL until about six months ago when Telus left me high and dry for five days and I switched back to cable.
So I've been high speed for close to 10 years. (there's a scary thought).
