Have recently purchased a MY'04 and love the car. We had our first Rain/Ice/Snow storm last week in Montreal and I felt like a kid at a candy store driving through 12 inches of "slush" on road....

My initial impressions of the car where that it was quite comfortable and safe but certainly lacked perfromance and road huggin' thrill of my Catera or BMW. This being said, I believe I made a wise choice with the Volvo. Love that low end torque, AWD and great feeling that I do not have to worry while my wife negotiates snowy and slippery hills with a rear wheel drive catera. :D

Have had a few problems with the Volvo. Starting with a loud humming/whirling noise coming from underneath car on passenger side rear end. Noise starts occuring after 15 minutes or driving through snow and intensifies when I accelerate. Only way to stop noise is to stop car!! Spoke to dealer about this and he had never heard of this occuring.

Second problem occured this morning with message stating "anti skid service required". What could be this due to?

Apologize for being so long winded! This forum is great, informative and helped me make my decision to buy the XC70!

Happy trails!

Concerning your question, you may check this topic (http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=576), and this one (http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4726). Very informative. As for the ""anti skid service required" message, can't help on that. Sorry!

try this (http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=19810) link.

In my 04 xc70 I had the same message one time. Engine off for 5 minutes (the system resets) and it was over....

Can someone post a picture of these "dirt deflectors" or give a more complete description of what they are? Or does someone have a part number?

I guess there is an actual part for the exhaust system bracket, huh? My dealer's guy just grabbed on my car's bracket with a big channel-lock plier and bent it down before I could stop him.

Gibbons,

The dirt deflectors are devices that are attached onto the lateral links of the rear wheels in order to prevent the buildup of dirt, mud, snow, etc..The deflectors show up in TSB 6650003.

Part # Kit RH - 8672300, Kit LH - 8672299

I had a set installed a couple of years ago after complaining to the dealer about severe shaking/vibration after taking the XC off road. There was no cost to me since my complaint was submitted as a warranty claim by the dealer.

You can find more discussion about this here. (http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1196&highlight=dirt+deflectors)

I had the dirt deflectors installed under warranty and they totally eliminated the vibration from the rear wheels going out of balance when they filled up with snow and ice.

I plan to have them put on the new one as well.

Are these the two small flaps I see hanging in front of my rear axle?
