turbo improvement?

Is there any way to increase the turbo boost reliably on these things? I know there used to be a trick where you could punch something out (wastegate?) which would make the boost go higher. If there are no simple tricks, I won't bother. Also, please don't suggest a $300 exhaust system. Speaking of which, does this turbo "slice up" the exhaust like most other turbos? I have heard of people taking the muffler off completely and not a bad note because the turbo muffled a lot of the noise.

The only way of getting more boost is to get a chip (or reprogram the cpu). The days of mechanical or analog engine control is over.

The turbine will muffle the sound. You still need a muffler, especially when the waste gate opens...
