I picked up my XC70 from the dealer on New Years Eve. The car had been unavailable for inspection during daylight but under the lot lights, we noted some marks on the front fender. I noted the marks on the paperwork and drove away thinking they were just detailing 'leftovers' due to the end of the year crunch.

A week ago the car went back to the dealer to be detailed. The marks remained (but they did manage to break the keyless entry key) and the car was sent to an aftermarket 'dent wizard' type shop for repair.

I was told the likely remedy would be to wet sand or repaint. I said "NO". Dealer said they'd have the work done by Volvo instead of outside. I said "NO"...that would put me in the position of paying for a new car with a modified, ie: not factory original, finish.

The dealer and the Volvo Regional After-Sales manager have said, in effect "too bad". They'll repair as they see fit...period, no compensation, nada. Obviously I should have ripped up the paperwork New Years Eve and gone back home with my check. Next time http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/exclamation.gif

Any thoughts on persuing the issue with Volvo and the LONG term affects of playing with the finish like this? Not sure whether it's best to leave the marks alone (not bad aesthetically, it looks like leftover wax and you really have to look for it) or have them go ahead and "fix" it.

Is your car purchased or leased?  How far are you willing to take it?  Look up "Ira Gore BMW" using an internet search engine to see how a slightly different situation was handled.
