Just was at my Volvo dealership and saw a new V70R. Incredible machine. 300HP out of 2.5L with 295 lb ft torque. Adjustable suspension and 6 sp transmission with AWD. Brembo brakes with 17" wheels. 45 series tires. If I get this will I have to drop out of VolvoXC.com? Isn't this really just an XC with a few tweaks? http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

Nah, you can be a regular in the off topic section with me http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

In fact, Coastal may even feel the need to open up a specific section for ex-XC owners. We`d be a bit like Alcoholics Anonymous but without the social stigma http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

LOL that's pretty funny slender! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/happy.gif Steve you should talk to Barry - he just bought an S60R! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

That torque only comes with the stick shift, if you buy a Geartronic the torque is 258 lb.-ft. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

wiz -- don't knock that Geartronic too much as many of the best track times people have been reporting for the "R" have been obtained by cars with Geartronic (GT). If I could have found an "R" with GT I believe I would have gone that route as my wife much prefers auto when truth be known http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I believe the "R" with GT will be a very fine auto to drive about.

The manual goes to 60 in approx 5.6 secs.
The geartronic takes approx 7.5 secs.
IMO, the geartronic R is kind of a waste, aside from the brakes and 4C chassis. I think for the price difference if I wanted a geartronic I'd get a T5/T6.

me too... And there are some very heavily discounted S60 T5s at my dealer...

I would NEVER get the R with geartronic. Why bother?

No doubt about it here either -- I much prefer the 6-speed whereas my wife would prefer the GT. Ah well we have the 6-speed http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I got a price of about 41k for a V70r. I was actually thinking about taking a test drive until I asked the trade in on my 02 XC. They said 26k!! I only have 15 k on it and it garage kept. Do you guys think that is a good trade in price.

I think it is low

That's probably pretty close. Edmunds lists the TMV as $27,100.

I was considering the same until I realized what our 01v70xc was worth. I know cars aren't investments, but man do these things depreciate quickly.

edjike,
The quick succesion of MY's surely doesn't help either. Private sale might give you a better price, but I'd be surprised if you get more than 30k http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

41K for the R is a good value for money though. And I think the R will retain it's value better http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sly.gif

Man, I'd love to have one....

I did some work for autobytel.com last year and those guys told me that about 35-40% of total depreciation occurs in the first year. None of them buy new cars.

26K is a fair trade from a dealer. At the end of 02' Aug-sept when we got ours we paid just under 34K for the car. there was some serious rebating going on at that time. When you take into account the mandatory inspection, the detail, the usual markup they will at a $1500 profit (about average in these cars) commisions ect. they need to sell the car for about 29-30K. Going rate around here for one. The 01' cars are doing real good though. They are advertising them around 28.5-29K and getting in the 27-28K range for 30K mile cars.

Oh, and the R? Make mine the 6 speed please. Drove both, skip the GT. IMO
