So, I've been doing some research on possible upgrade wheels for my XC.

Aftermarket look:
BBS RK 18x7
Heico Volution 18x8

Factory look:
Sentinal 17x7.5
Atlantis 18x7

I've seen all of the wheels on XC70 before except the 18" Atlantis from the XC90. And after some research on the net, I finally found it.

This is from our fellow XCer REDDIZ's ride.:D

I think I prefer the Xenia wheels on the XC70. 18 inch'ers seem a bit big on the 70 to me.

I have the 16" Xenia wheels right now... I think they look nice but always wished they were bigger. Now I can do something about it. :D
So do all of the wheels shown above work on a XC70? Does the XC70 model year matter?
My favorites are the 18" Medusa or the Medea.

I checked on the prices and the 18" Medusa wheel are ~$100 CHEAPER ($330) than the 17" sentinals.
Now I'm thinking of getting them . They look amazing. something you'd normally see on a BMW.

I sure would like to see pictures of them all on XC70s. They always look different on a car compared to the display rack. Even though the factory rims aren't the most stylish, I do think they compliment the XC70 rather well. I don't have an overpowering urge to get rid of them, but some of those in the dislpay sure look nice.

Ill keep my sfctory Xenia for winter driving and then use the other ones (?) for summer only even though they will be all season tires.

Well, I just answered my own wish. I checked out the Tire Rack and they allow you to view your XC70, select your color and see how it looks with the available wheels. The tire Rack has 29 different wheels to fit the 70 in both 16" and 17" sizes. I haven't tried to compare thier wheels to the ones posted here yet. Here's a link:

I like those 17" Styla wheels, but the Sentinel and Thor are still my favorites. Then again this is just a day dreamer talking...... :(

Just got my 05' XC70!! good cruiser on the road...have not tried offroad yet! But when it comes to cornering...hummm..my previous VolvoS60 was much better. :o
I have a question and hope someone can help me....
I have 16" Atlantis wheels on my XC70. Can I upgrade it to an 18" wheels? Will the wheels be too "heavy" or big for the XC70 and will cause some problems later on? :o
Thanks in advance!

Just watch the offsets.... The wrong offset will mess you up more than anything.
When we first started looking at XCs, one we wanted had Xenia wheels along with the $300 additional price (or whatever it was) as an option. I told the dealer they would have to switch them for some Tellus', and they could keeep the $300. I really like the robust look of the Tellus to go along with the look of the rest of the car.
Gibbons is right on about selecting the appropriate offset, although I do believe all of the oem wheels for the P2 cars (2001+) have the same +49mm offset. Your dealer would be able to confirm this for you. Plus sizing will likely result in some improved handling but with a drop in aspect ratio of 15-20 points, I’d think twice about taking those puppies anywhere other than on level tarmac. ;)
Moving up to a larger wheel from stock will likely increase a vehicle’s unsprung weight, though I’m not familiar to what degree, if any, an 18" wheel would affect overall handling and steering input.
Many of the members of the Volvo XC club of Japan have opted to go with +2 upgrades on their XC’s and I don’t ever recall hearing of any problems from their side of the pond. Do, however, expect a slightly stiffer ride due to the tire’s shorter sidewall.
BTW, the wheels on your ‘05 should either be ‘Tellus’ or ‘Erinus’. :)

Funny, I posted a thread somewhere on here looking for 15 inch wheels but I guess it might not fit the brakes. Anyone know? That, or some 235/75R16 tires, but that didn't get much farther. Anyone?

This is one of the most equally divided POLL (50/50) I have seen on volvoXC.com. :D
I guess, it's either you love it, or you hate it.. :)

Hi,
I recently asked about the Atlantis wheels at my dealer and they worked their magic on the parts computer, producing an astronomic price of +600euro/rim!!!! Is this what you expect these things to cost? As a reference, the Xenia would be 275euro, according to the same dealer. Sorry, but how much I like them, I would jeopardize my marriage buying 4 of them. (Only one would look so silly, don't you think?)
So, I'm still not sure what to do next summer, but I would like to upgrade to a nice 17 or 18. Cars ride will be a lot stiffer, I assume. Question: why not grouping all pictures with XC's with different wheels, as I see several threads with similar wheel questions?
Is it true that tires in 17 and 18 would be cheaper than the 16's, because they are sold in greater numbers?
I don't see the pictures on my computer, where can I find the XC70 with Atlantis on the web?

Im also toying with the idea of 18s for summer use.
I like the Ronal R38 which look like the Heico Volution X but at half the price.
The ten spoke wheels hide the small brake disks and look very nice.
Of course ride quality does suffer but a local tireshop suggested Goodyear F1's and Dunlop Sportmaxx for their softer sidewalls.
I looked at some test results and they do indeed have better ride quality than most competitive tires.
Theres a site in Germany selling the Ronals for 137euros. This is a Great price.
The link:
http://www.wheelmachine2000.de/dooyoo/
They also provide tires as a set if you like to buy it all in one place.
Im concerned about the offset though.
Some wheel suppliers give ET38 others ET45 others ET42 and in this thread Art gives us the ET49 number.
Is offset wheel type dependent or is it the same for all?
And if its one for all which one is it?

Hye,
I did buy them, without jeopardizing the marriage. The ones I bought were second hand, with some cleaning-polishing work and in need of lots of TLC.
Good thing they come from an XC90. They didn't come near to any curbstone. That will be a little different on my XC70, will have to drive more carefully.
The pictures will follow, but the rims will only be fitted by the end of the month. Still have 2 wheels left to clean :D and then wait for the temperatures rizing again.
Can hardly wait. BTW, could anyone make the pictures of the first threads visible again. I understood this was something of a setting in the postings. TU

Hi Ashpee,
Congratulations about your new wheels.
Make sure you fit a set of Hub Centric Rings on the Atlantis wheels before
you put them on your XC70.
The Hub sizes are different from XC90 (67.1mm) to XC70 (65.6mm)
Otherwise, you will have vibration in the steering wheel without them.
Good luck and remember to post some photos!!

Damn, the one dimension I didn't look after [nonono] . Now you tell me that Volvo managed to make a difference in hub diameters?
Any idea where I can find a set of these rings, and what price must I expect to pay for them?
Also, do they come off when changing the wheels again (summer-winter)?
Thanks for the information,
Hans
ashpee,
I would think that hubcentric rings like the ones shown in the link below should be available across the pond. Aluminium versions would likely be more durable and less likely to break.

$22 for 4 plastic rings? I bet it costs 50 cents tops to make them.
ashpee
03-27-2006, 02:28 PM
Yes, I've got the rings. Indeed they cost me 5 euro a piece, but the tire-guy assured me that I'm in for trouble (vibrations) if I don't use any. Then all my cleaning would have been useless.
Tires ordered and will be mounted wednesday evening, can hardly wait to see and feel the effect. I'll keep you informed.
Good night/day, Hans

ashpee, I just realized your XC doesn't have roof rails.. Did you remove them yourself or you bought your car like that? Just curious...

Looks nice though with those wheels! [thumbup]

The roof-rails are in the basement. The painted strips on which the rails were mounted were fading/turning brown and ugly. As the car was still in dealer-waranty after buying it second-hand, I arranged some new ones. At this point, the new strips get in the workshop as a whole and need to be cut to accomodate the rails. I didn't use the rails and it is surely something that I wouldn't order on a new car (of-course on an XC I wouldn't have the choice, they always come with) because I hate roof-top boxes and carriers for being too noisy (see topics in this forum) and they make cleaning the roof more of a hassle (relatively) and I like the clean lines in a car (no badges, no spoilers, no unnecessary additional lights or whatever). So all of this together made me choose not to cut the new strips. Now I only have to buy the pieces from a regular V70 that make it possible to mount some bars on the roof if ever I change my mind. For now some blind pieces are put in (also OE Volvo), don't know, S60-items or something. When changing my mind, I could of course put the original rails back on.
Tastes and colours... what's the expression in English. I'm happy with the looks now.

Agree with you Hans... Those rails, although they are practical for installing something on the roof don't add much in terms of style IMHO. As on mine, fading strips was a problem on MY'01. :(

NICE!
Another cool rim idea i've been thinking up has been to run 18" Odysseus Rims on a XC70.
That would look pretty cool.
A friend from TB can get a good price on a set, and i might cop me a set, and run em on my 245 with spacers

Add me to the list! Our preference would have been for the 17" Oreander wheels, but they appear to be very hard to come by (at a decent price).
Falken Ziex 912 in 235/50-18. We are going to add the side scuff bars to brighten up the lower part of the car.
