Need gift ideas-Hexautoparts volvo xc70 starer any good ?

Hi,My husband's birthday is coming and I was wondering where can get volvo XC70 starter for him as birthday gift. Starter replacement cost: $50-150
He has a 06 2006 Volvo XC70 with 2.5L engine and he told me when he turned the key the starter only clicks and not engage suddenly yesterday...

Those could be symptoms of a weak battery or corroded/loose connections at the battery.

First, be certain it’s the starter. That click sounds more like dead battery, which usually comes from a failed alternator. Batteries on this car last a long time, because they live in the back where it’s cool. Check both.

The starter that you buy from the dealer is made by Bosch and is a good unit, but it costs over $500 and is rebuilt.

I would be OK with a Bosch unit. Good quality. You can get one here for under $200

Hex auto parts is selling a new starter for $50? No way that’s any good. Just no way. The old saw, “if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is” certainly applies here.

On Mercedes and Volvo forums, I see people make the mistake of buying counterfeit/junk parts all the time. Those cheap parts fail quickly, or don’t work at all, and you’ve wasted time, money, labor. You end up spending more by trying to go cheap.

Start with checking the state of charge on the battery. Then alternator output. Then move on to the starter. But please buy a good one.

Bosch starter is a refurb one, with paint sprayed over rust :( Also it is very expensive compared to other new starters. Paint over rust broke my heart, I've got a new DB Electrical starter that costs 1/3 of Bosch, made in US and comes with an inspection report. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007Y85MFE

Speaking about Bosch... I've had a not so great experience with their expensive rebuilt alternator. Dry bearings whine out of the box. For the Bosch money I bought quality parts and had my old alternator rebuilt. The trick about long bearings life in alternator is that you have to buy the correct bearings: find model designation on old bearings, decipher what it means, buy similar ones. IIRC the bearings are with low frictions caps and for high-temp conditions, not water-proof.

Bosch in wife's then new XC60 was whining from the beginning, and still is.

I’ve done the starter, and alternator, on all three Volvo’s.

I take them to Browning’s Electric on Independence BLVD in Virginia Beach for a rebuild. $100 cash. I know the core is good, the part fit is good, and the job is done right. 7 or 8 years on some of them.

But without knowing local shops, it’s hard to recommend that approach to somebody in another town...
