Hey olsson,

How does your wooden steering wheel look like. Does it look like the S80's.

I like all the extra buttons on the dash that we don't get. Where the pen holer is located, the phone in the dash when our cup holder is, on the left side by the dash brightness control. I want more gadgets! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Oh, and congradulations! I love the wood wheel! I have to look into that!

I think the wheel may not be a "full" wood wheel. It may have leather on the back of it that you can't see in this photo.

The picture of the wood wheel looks great, but I have seen other pictures on the forum that show the wood wheel as alternating equal sections of wood and leather that was really tacky. So I wonder if that is a Swedish version. Yours looks more like mostly wood and a little leather. Is the wood steering wheel something that can be put on when picking up the car at Goteborg? Or is it cheaper or required to put it when ordering the car?

Maybe the other pictures I have seen is the '02 version, it does not have the new volvo symbol in the center. I am curious if it is real wood too. How does it feel and what is the diameter, I like the feel of a larger steering wheel. What was the approximate cost?
Thanks,
Kersti

I just check with Volvo OSD, that steering wheel is not available for the US market. Drat!

HI Bo,
Running on winter tires? What brand and what size wheels are you using? Just wondering. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

BTW: Really nice steering wheel! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

VERY nice, olsson!! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif And that is a full wood wheel, too! Also I see that the grab handle remains but now it is the same graphite color as the rest of the trim in the center console...

He wiz,
Didn't notice the different color of the grab handle! Sharp eyes http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sly.gif I'd say that's an improvement over the alu one! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/happy.gif

Hi again...

The winter tires are Pirelli 16"...i dont remember the rest and it is to cold outsid for going and look right now.

And Wiz.... the grab hande is not graphite color. Just wrong color at the pic. I will take better pic when the light is good.
Here in Sweden its late evening now.

After a wash so....for the car i mean ;-) i think i can pic so you can see the right color.

olsson no need to take another pic of the grab handle - I believe you!! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Those tires look like Pirelli STRs - it's possible that in Sweden the car comes standard with 16" steel wheels...

Hey...

The car was delivery with alloy 16" summer tyres.
Pirelli. But here in sweden we must have winter tyres after 1 december. So i ask for delivery with winter tyres. The summer tyres just now rest in my garage and wait for the long summerride with my caravan on the hook.

So those are winter tires, huh? Gislaved? Are they studded?

Also I see (or at least I think I see http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif ) that your outside rearview mirror has a body color (blue) top half. Is that correct? Glad you're really enjoying the car!! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Wiz,
When I ordered my '02 XC it was offerd as an option to have the "regular" V70 mirrors. Some times they come in a package with the power seats http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/huh2.gif

wiz

ooh http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif . I just bought from the lot - I guess you can really fine-tune what you get if you order...

pico de luuks

Yep, it's the"European-way". Order-in vice from-the-lot.
With volvo you can still have your "custom" order car within 6-8 weeks (in Holland), but other brands/models sometimes can take up to 3-4 months (VW). So that's a serious draw back!

http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Finally got it !!! MY 2003 XC 70 2.5t
4 1/2 months later. The first 24 hours were great and we allready put on 148 km in town.

Today we installed the rear facing Graco infant seat just to find out that it is impossible for me to get into the passanger seat. My wife had more space in her Honda Civic and my Merzedes ML 500 also had no problems. What infant seats do others use ??

Power is great on the 2.5 and I can't wait to floor it.

The security laminated windows really keep the interior quiet. However, I'm a little worried (especially my wife) that should you get into a collision do you need a special glass breaking hammer to get out, if the electrical system does not work ??

Happy Bernie http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Two or three weeks waiting before I get my own new XC 70 2.5t...
this is really hard time for me anyway... http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Well, someone asked about winter tires. I bought Gislaved Nord Frost 215/65 R16 tires
(studded tires) for my new Volvo. Naturally I don't have any kind of experience yet but I
will get back on this issue.

Here (eastern Finland) we have LOT'S OF SNOW, so "test drive" environment is perfect.

Welcome to the forum, Bernie & booster!! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

booster - I assume those Gislaveds come on 16" steel wheels - similar to the "winter" package they sell here in the U.S?

booster
12-28-2002, 12:28 PM
Actually, here in Finland XC comes with some kind of "all
weather tires" (with Tellus 7x16) but those are most useful
for summer time. That's why I bought separate tires for
winter conditions.

We don't have "winter package" over here but naturally it's
sensible to buy engine-block heater and plug socket inside
the car for electric heater and of course I bought
casoline-powered heater with timer (useful when electric
is not available). Heated front seats and heated rear window
etc are standard equipment over here.

I am not sure that my "terminology" is correct but hopefully
you understand what equipment I meant.

booster your English is excellent! Of course I understood!! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Here in the U.S. the "winter tire package" is a set of Gislaved Nordfrost tires with 16" steel wheels and hubcaps (I believe). I think in Canada there is a requirement that the car be equipped with acceptable snow tires after a certain date, maybe December 1.

You should be nice and toasty when you get your new car in a couple of weeks... http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/happy.gif

Hey Wiz!

I'm not sure about the other provinces but here in Quebec, winter tires are not mandatory, and I think that's the same with the other provinces as well. Even all season tires are not required over here.

By the way, on my last trip in Sweden I noticed that some of the Volvos (new and older models, all V70s) had heated seats in the back. I checked with my dealer whos said it,s not available here, but these are the same guys who do not want to sell me a radio upgrade... Anyone knows if it could be done in North america?

I'm sure you're right. I thought I recalled reading on a board somewhere that there were certain requirements in Canada, could be by province, but then again I was probably mistaken. I often am... http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif

Bernie,

My 9 month old son is riding in a Costco "Eddie Bauer" convertible car seat, currently facing rearward. His seat is positioned behind the driver seat (my 2-1/2 year old daughter is riding in an Eddie Bauer car seat, facing forwards, behind the passenger seat). I am 6' tall and have enough room to position the driver seat comfortably. I do tend to sit a little closer to the wheel than most people my height (goes back to my autocrossing days). My wife is shorter than I, so she has no problems.

I actually took our car seats to the dealer and test fit them prior to making a final decision to purchase the XC for my wife. Soon, our kids will be big enough to take advantage of the optional Integrated Booster Seats we opted for, and we'll be rid of the child seats for good.
