Only one side rear window has defrost

I recently purchased an 03 xc70 with only 13000 mi. After further inspection I realized that only one of the rear side windows has the defrost mechanism on it. Possibly broken and replaced, but why not with the correct window? It was an off lease car that I bought from a dealer, I'm still talking to them.

;) I was told that was the radio antenna. At any rate, it is only on the driver's side cargo window on all v70 motorcars I've ever seen. I don't expect that it means your glass has been replaced.

I don't believe that any car has side defrosters. The closest Volvo comes are air ducts in the main pillars (at shoulder height) right behind the front seats.

Could you perhaps be looking at the radio antenna which is a series of wires embedded into the driver's side rear window? That should be the only window wiring visible on an XC except for the rear hatch window which is a defroster.

Those wires are indeed the radio antenna.
It is part of a diversity system,the othe part located in or near the rear bumper.

I have wires on both sides of my 2004 XC. They are both a series of wires and both sides have one small loop of wire labeled Volvo Guard. I thought they might be for some kind of alarm (I did not get). What are the ones on the passenger side for?

If you get the 803 upgrade stereo, it uses antennas on both sides, it decides which one has the best signal and picks it. My car with a 613 has antennas on both sides, but only one side has wires hooked up.

My 2004 XC70 has the "Volvo On Call Plus" phone system, which includes a GPS receiver. We have the standard sound system. The car has 7 diagonal wires on the right side rear window (along with the small loop for the secruity system). The left window has more wires, 9 I think. I presume the right is for the phone/GPS system.

We have a 2001 with premium sound (HU-803). We have antenna wires in the driver's rear side window but no wires in the passenger side.

I have the SC-816 stereo in my 2000 XC70 and also have the wires on both sides. How can I determine if both sides are connected?
