Love my XC but since buying (May 2003) I have had the Airbag warning - "urgent service required" four times.

The dealer has reset with no comprehensive fault code. Let's see if it happens again.

During the third time, the dash lights went blank. Then when restarting the car, the SRS warning was on again. Power windows would not work and power seat. Took it to dealer and fault code indicated a faulty relay. It was replaces and within 3 hours now have the same happen.

Anyone else experience this ? Patience is running out !

Welcome to the site kervinmi, it would be a great help if you put a location against you name, this can be done thru your control panel when you log on next time, then we will see if the problem is unique to your car or other cars in your area/Country have a similar problem.

As for trying to remember when something shows up, forget it, your OBC will retain all this info so your laocl garage can check it when you take it to them.

Bear with it and don't let them off the hook until you are completely happy with the results. Keep pestering them http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

Thanks for the input...

Car is in shop, told them I didn't want it back until fixed. They have provided a loaner. Will keep you posted.

After many attempts, we have found the problem. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

We noticed that the problem only happened when my wife was driving the XC. Seat position was a factor here. Mentioned this to the dealer to check out and sure enough, there was wire chafing which was causing shorts. This manifested in the dash lights going out, power windows not working, power seat not working and the gear shift light going out plus the "immediate service required - airbag" message.

Problem seems to fixed.

Good detective work.

wow, what a coincidence. just dropped off my wife's 04 XC70 today, due to the SRS urgent service message.

Glad you pointed out the wire rubbing part, because I'll bet they come back and tell me they can't diagnose it, but now I know where to tell them to look !

My wife does sit somewhat close up, so definitely could be an issue.

thanks again.

yup, turned out it was a loose wire under the driver's seat, but they didn't give me any additional detail.

many thanks to people on this forum. I didn't need to use it, but thanks to this thread, I was ready to tell them where find the source of the problem http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I know this was posted a while back however I just recently got the "SRS Airbag service urgent" message on my '03. It was like any ordinary day, did some errands and at one point when I hopped back in the car and started it I noticed the warning light was on.

I checked under the front seats to see if there is any wires chaffing or even a loose connection but I didn't find anything. I just hate these electrical gremlins and to make the matter worse it's the wife's car so I've been getting an ear full. And I'd rather not bring it to the stealership and pay a couple of C notes just to have them plug it in and reset the warning light.

Does anybody have any other suggestions as to where else to check?

Thanks in advance.
