WELCOME. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

When you first walk in to dealership look around for the OSD display table. If you don't want to be approached by a sales person I would goto the Service Dept's desk and ask them if there's a display table. If there's one go get any materials laying about. Sit down and start reading. No one should bother you if you adopt this.

If there's no table I'm assuming you have already reviewed Volvo's OSD program online. If not then I advise you to do this by going to http://www.volvocars.com/ and http://www.volvocars.us/FinancialServices/Overseas/ and navigate to the Over Seas Program web pages.

With this background info now approach a sales person of your choosing. It could be that one specific sales person deals with OSD, but not necessarily. Ask a few basic questions you already have anwsers to test the sales person's OSD knowledge base. If it seems poor then politely exit the meeting. Better still, rather than taking pot luck with this method try telephoning the dealership first to see if there's a knowledgeable person to begin with. If so, then make an appointment to meet with him/her.

Use this forum for any OSD question(s) you have. There are many OSDers who have been thru the whole process and will have excellent responses for you.

Also, browse this forum as there's stack and stacks of excellent advice -- and much of it could/can save you hundreds of dollars -- and that should be motivation enough.

Good luck. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Thanks for the info. Read all the on-line stuff last night. A lot of helpful stuff on these boards.

I was just worried about the dealers being less than helpful for the OSD program. What I read last night said that they still make a few dollars and the car doesn't count against their allotment. Seems like a relatively easy way for the dealer/saleman to make a few bucks.

BTW.....any thoughts on the XC vs the V70 AWD?http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I know that my dealer was very excited about our trip--I sold another OSD for him a week after mine and they were excited that they were doing 4 to 6 a month now. Putnam in Burlingame. Let's face it when money is tight--all money is good and OSD is sales ( helps with allotments) more customers and more people telling others to shop there also increased business for service dept.

Hi gotkidsgetwagon (great name &#33http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
1) the salesman makes the same, OSD, off the lot so should be helpful ! Mine as almost as excited as me. He had two OSD's going at the same time, and they both arrived last weekend. He got sent over by Volvo to Sweden to see the FDC and what the process was like, and is really exicted to help folks with the process.
2) I can only tell you how I chose between XC-70, V-70 AWD (and XC-90). I like the visibility, seat comfort/looks (especaiily vs XC-90), body moldings that don't stone chip, on XC-70. The V-70 AWD drives more like a car, but I really missed the improved visability as soon as I got in it. You do save some $'s with this option too. I was also told by numerous sales people the resale on XC was much better. Don't know for sure from personal experience. I would guess all Volvo's hold up well, but driving a used rental XC that still performed like a new car really impressed me, after driving too many worn out American rentals with 25k on them. With kids the XC's 40/20/40 seat option may be real useful for you if any are in kid seats.

have fun choosing, and do OSD delivery for what ever you choose http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/exclamation.gif

I remember when I called my dealership asking about OSD -- the manager paused and then asked "what?" Well that certainly gave me a shock -- turned out though that he was a new manager and that there was an experienced OSD guy working there, he just didn't know about it. And as for the sales people/dealer making money from OSD -- they sure do. They make enough money that they were able to take off another $1k from my car's OSD price.

The OSD prices are somehow negotiable at the dealer???

When I was making my OSD purchase there was absolutely no room for price negotiations. All prices were fixed. This was Dec 2003 and of course circumstances such as promotions and Volvo's discounting strategies can change. If you can reduce the OSD list prices then good luck to you -- go for it and consider yourself fortunate. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Evolution, I had no idea that the OSD price was negotiable. Has anyone else experienced this?

No--set price the same as was on my computor at home and Sales Manager kept asking me to check to make sure he did not have higher price==

It's my belief that the prices can be negotiated - it just depends on your sales representative. The price he gave me for my car was the exact same one that I could calculate off of a price-list online - but after that, he took off additional money. The dealer makes money on OSD deals - otherwise Volvo would have done OSD direct through their company (like some other manufacturers do). The "non-negotiable prices" fact may be written everywhere just to prevent people from even asking about it. I was pretty much sure that it really was this way, but when I asked the question (can you work on the price at all?) my rep said he would and he did. Maybe before when Volvo was offering free premium packages you couldn't work with the price at all (as they already gave you a $2500 freebie), but now it might be possible.

Anything that is taken off is the dealer's agreement. OSD is fixed price.

There is a small amount of money given to the dealer to "handle" potential problems. The dealer gets roughly $1000 for the processing of OSD. Everything they contractually do gets taken from that amount...

Do expect to negotiate. That's not the point of the OSD process. Contrary in every aspect.

What's contrary to OSD is having to always bring the price down, and knowing that the dealer has A LOT of negotiating room. I leased another car a couple months back, and I still think I got ripped off, even though I bargained down a lot. With OSD, even if you don't get the price discount, you still get an amazing deal. You shouldn't expect to lower the price though all of the time.

Agreed. If Volvo put room to negotiate into OSD, it would spoil the beauty of the programme.

What got me into osd was that my dealer gave me an additional 10 percent off my packages I added. That was a VERY BIG selling point (besides all of the other things in the program) http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif I take delievery Oct. 2004. Can't wait.

Yes it is the dealer's agreement, however there is quite a substantial room for negotiations. The $1000 is incorrect. The dealer makes a profit margin of approximately $2500 per XC70 and 10% on all options (I know this because I have seen the dealer invoice for OSD--my dealer gave me a copy by accident). And you are able to negotiate as long as you can find a dealer who is willing to do so.

I have done euro delivery twice now--the first with BMW and the second with Volvo--in both instances I was able to negotiate an additional $1700 off the OSD price (after adding a lot of options). If you think about it the dealer makes a lot of money for not doing very much and not taking any inventory--hence they should be able to shave off the price.

I took the strategy of sending an email to different dealers and making them a reasonable offer based on OSD prices-- and usually there will be one who is willing to take the offer since no matter what, there is still profit in it for them for very little work.

Anyways, if you are able to, you should always try to negotiate the price a bit--worse comes to worse, you can always negotiate the 10% off the options.
