With all the interest behind the new XC90, I thought it'd be a good idea to start up a new forum dedicated to this new vehicle.

I'll have photos and a press release available for 9am EST tomorrow (November 29, 2001)

Coastal,

Thanks, good idea. I have a feeling it's going to get busy in here. I know that after I saw the prelim pics today I started thinking about cleaning the garage to make room for one! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I have to admit that the XC90 is one fine looking machine. It's great to see that they managed to design the vehicle to look similar to that of the XC70 without the SUV overkill, such as in the original press pics. I'll be the first one to say that my XC suits me to a 'T' and it would take a lot of convincing to get me back on the SUV wagon. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Notice any similarities to the XC90?

I must say, I'm bummed that Volvo is finally giving in to the SUV market.  One of the reasons I bought a V70XC is Volvo's committment to safety and "sensible" transportation.  SUV's are a pain in the @## on the road, they block vision, demolish other cars in collisions, guzzle gas, and flip over far more than cars (just  drive up I-70 out of Denver in a snowstorm and you'll see.)  Did Volvo really have to jump on this bandwagon too?  And what's with that tiny cargo area?  Why would anyone want one of these things when you can't even put anything in back?  Looks like the third seat would get squished in a rear-ender in any case.

So much for safety, Volvo.  I can't wait for V90 buyers to start tinting their windows like the benzes, blocking vision for the rest of us.  Jee, another frigging SUV, just what we needed.

I'm sure they'll sell a bunch of these to Americans looking for something a little more manly for those trips to Starbucks.  I'll stick to my V70XC thank you.  I sure hope Volvo stays committed to the V70 platform or it's off to Audi for this boy.
