The XC90 comes standard with a plastic shifter knob. I had an XC70 and it came with a nice leather shifter. Has anyone found a replacment shifter for the XC90 in leather? If so have you swapped it for the plastic version that comes with the vehicle? Any problems? I know that there is also a faux wood (fancy plastic) version but I'd prefer leather.

Yes, there's a leather shift knob. We got ours at: http://volvo.autowebaccessories.com/store....id=1037 (http://volvo.autowebaccessories.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=126_137_177&products_id=1037)

The plastic shifter is cheap and nasty in a XC90. you can feel the edges of it under the button of it.. Very rough for a £35,000 car..

So how do you install this $50 wonder? Is it a slip on, or do you have to get out the tools??

Mr. P.,

Here is all I could find:
(I believe this was posted by "imxc90" on swedespeed.com)

"The installation instructions are clear and easy to follow. We were going to install it but decided to have the dealer do it since the car is new and we didn't want to risk voiding the warranty. (If you're good at tinkering with cars, the installation would be easy but it does involve taking the gear box apart.)"

Guess it depends on what your threshhold is for "pain". "...taking the gearbox apart" sounds like a job for the dealer.

Maybe imxc90 could elaborate?

P.S. I just bought a new 2.5T (red) today, so I am interested also.

I have a rather high threshold of pain, admittedly, however it's nothing near being able to withstand taking a gearbox apart for a leather shift cover.

If you even have to pull the console out, forget it.

Regards, and thanks for the note,

Mr. P

If you ever buy it at the Autowebaccessories store (see previous posting above), make sure you tell them to include the installation instructions from Volvo. Read it (e.g. it has pictures and such) and you can decide if this is something you can or want to do or not. You can also call them and just ask how easy/hard it would be to install.

You have to get out the tools. As mentioned above, the best way is to read the installation instructions and determine for yourself if you can or want to do it yourself.

Well guys, the leather shifter knob just arrived yesterday, and WOW, is it ever an UPGRADE.

Yes the directions look a bit intimidating, but the big problem I'm going to have is my wife looking over my shoulder, ha ha.

Many thanks for the tip, this is one very nice product and well worth the money...............and............it came in a box with VOLVO written on it, so it's a stocked part number, and not an aftermarket product.
