Dear All,
I'm now just past the first month of the 10-12 months wait for my new XC90, and it isn't getting easier.
I have gone for an Ash Gold D5 with leather and wood trim, plus tinted windows for the kiddies in the back, though we may change this at the time we hand over the rest of the cash.
The reason I write is to ask if everyone else in my shoes has been told that the price that I will eventually pay may be more than originally agreed to. Mr Volvo-salesman said Volvo needs to cover their costs if manufacturing costs go up unexpectedly. I said "yeah yeah yeah" but I am damned if I am going to pay even £10 more for it, even if I am cutting my nose to spite my face. It's a bit rich for Volvo not to honour a semi-contract with someone willing to pay over £33,000 for a car. I don't like being ripped off, and will take my custom to BMW or Mercedes.
Rant over, feel better.
Ps. The last time I bought a new car (Rover 220 Coupe) I asked the salesman what he would throw in for free. We settled on a 6 CD changer. Mr Volvo has offered me a free tank of diesel! I guess he knows something!!!!!

When I read posts like yours I realize how spoiled we are in the U.S. A year wait for a car?! Once we made a decision, it took about 3 hours of negotiations and paperwork and off we went.

The XC90 was designed for the U.S. market and is in short supply elsewhere from what I read. Unless you have your heart really set on one, you may be better off going with something else for now. I can imagine that dealers would not be willing to commit to a price a year out.

P.S.: when we were in Europe a couple of years ago my wife really wanted to get a SMART car. They are not available in the U.S., so we're even!  http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I would like to know where you purchased your car.  I went in told them what I wanted and left - no option for negotiation.  You already know my story.  Just curious if you are in the PDX area?

I only have about 1 month left for my blue XC - can't wait!!!!

Bend, Oregon. Availability was tighter a few months ago but they have usually had 2 or 3 XC90's and 5 or 6 XC70's in stock the last month. They had three 2.5T's last time I was there. I've also visited the Volvo dealer in downtown Portland but just to look.

In Holland it's even worse. Even official Volvo retailers now start selling their secondhand XC90's for 10000 EUR above list price (of a new XC90). Imagine what this does to the reputation of a quality brand. We are talking about 70k EUR cars here!! Now Volvo became part of Ford, the priority is getting the bucks in stead of satisfied customers. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
