Hi guys! Well my 02 Xc70 213k engine gave up around a month ago..got a 2001 engine with 110k huge mistake since 01 had the etm problems in that year after 02 everything was alright..but cant do anything right now motor is already in and I knew about the motor design after everything and has been started..it idles really rough I plugged in my scan tool a Autel Md802 and gave me these codes: ECM-903C Throttle position sensor FAULTY SIGNAL , ECM-9150 Throttle unit potentiometer 1 signal too high , ECM 9170 Throttle valve faulty signal , ECM-9160 Throttle unit potentiometer 2 signal too low , ECM-3000 Inlet Camshaft sensor Signal too high. I bought a ETM manufactured/built in 2004 and a camshaft position sensor..swapped both and Im having the same codes and same rough idle when the accelerated it doesnt go above 1500 rpm..Im getting a message "Reduced Engine Performance". Need help asap, Im moving soon across the country Maine to Utah.

What's the ECU out of? If you're running your original 02 ECU with a 2001 Magnetti Marelli ETM engine, that ain't gonna work!
I'm pretty sure you can't do what you did and expect it to run unless you swapped out EVERY SINGLE electrical module from the 01 into this 02 and use the 01 ECU
I'm surprised it even starts!

I thought the engine been out of a 01 v70xc it wouldve still worked out, So if I change the ecu for a 01 its supposed to work, nothing else has been changed..only engine that came with the harness everything plugged right into place.

No, it's not so simple
You need every single module, door lock, etc, out of the donor car that the ECU is out of!!!

Look, you made a mistake!

You need an 02 motor without an ECM, one that has the new Bosch throttle body.
In the long run it's probably cheaper to rebuild your 02 engine, if you didn't throw it out

Can't you take the '01 motor and use all the sensors and ancillaries off the '02 to sort this?

Cheers,

Bill

The 01 motor came out of a 01 v70 xc, I just bought a 01 ecu out of a 01 v70 xc to try it out...the Original 02 motor had a big crack on the block cylinder 3, I still have in the garage the 02 motor. 01 to 02 a lot of stuff changed, but why wouldnt a motor that came out of a 01 xc wouldnt work on a 01 ecu from a xc? the shell is a xc same as motor and ecu.

Nope Nope Nope!
Stop spending money needlessly...PLEASE
These ECU's MUST be mated to the car and engine,
A used ECU will do you NOTHING and will not work at all

What if the 01 Ecu gets programmed for that engine? Im trying to find the cheapest option here.

cheapest option

Simply put the original 2002 engine wiring harness and throttle on the 2001 engine. And swap any other sensors that might have the wrong connector. Then hope nothing was damaged by plugging a 01 throttle into a 02 ecu. Don't try messing with replacing control units, you will regret it.
