Hi there. Today the 98 started having the headlights not turn on! The middle of the switch, the corner lights light; And the high beams still work!

What's going on?

After checking the low beam bulbs, I would check the switch, it's probably coming apart and will fall apart when you remove it - :(

Yes... Do you mean the headlight switch, or the ignition switch?

One of the first things I was going to try was a weird one, I saw while reading other boards: "Turn the key back a little after starting the car, and it may work" - ??

"Turn the key back a little after starting the car,

The headlight switch

And yes the electrical portion of the ignition switch will develop a bad connection on the accessory circuit and cause lights to not work, but other accessories on that circuit such as the heater fan and wipers don't work at the same time also.

Tomorrow should be the day. Her peoples came home from jail.. Time to give him back his car. So Blue V has to work now. (98 XC's name is Blue V.)

If you haven't already got'em, here is a link for getting your wiring diagrams:

http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/volvo-wiring-diagrams

Here's the actual PDF for '98's at that page of links:

http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/downloads/1998_S70_V70_C70_Coupe.pdf

Once you download the book, the diagram you want is on page110 (PDF page 30).

The page that shows you where all the things in the wiring diagram are in the car is 111 ( PDF page 204).

Here's the good part...The Functional Diagram, page 264 (PDF page 107).

( You may be asking yourself "Why are the pages all mixed up?" Well, these diagrams are FREE...'nuff said... )

Now it's time to start chasing power. You'll see fuses called out as 11A and 11C.

11A refers to the fuses in the "MAIN FUSES" box located between the master cylinder and the strut tower .

(11B fuses are also in the "MAIN FUSES" box - They're the 5 small fuses in there, but those are all engine/drivetrain fuses.)

11C refers to fuses in the distribition "FUSE" box at the base of the windshield on the drivers side.

Hopefully, this info will help you track it down.

(Don't forget fuse 26! )
