Can someone tell what excatly happens when you press the override button at the front of the panel on the gear selector housing? When is it enaged/disengaged?

I have not used it and cannot tell you mechanicaly exactly what happens, but I thought it was for overriding the brake/shift interlock. If you can't shift from PARK because the interlock doesn't work, Press the override button. -Dick

If you're referring to the little button labeled Shiftlock Override, it allows you to shift out of Park manually. Like all new cars with automatic transmissions, the car is locked in Park when the engine is off. By putting the key in Position I and pressing Shiftlock Override, you can shift out of park without the engine running. I do this when I want to roll the car a few feet in the garage. You might also need to do this if the car is being winched onto a tow truck. You can accomplish the same thing by putting the key in Position II and pressing the brake pedal, although the lights come on in Position II.
