Hey,

Just wondering if anyone knows where the Speed Sensor that controls the torque converter lock-up is located?

2007 XC 70

Thanks!

No. That is a crankshaft pulse speed sensor.

That ones on the right side of the engine, over top of the trans. Super easy to get to. I pulled that one trying to get to the crankshaft speed sensor I linked. If you can't find it, I can take a pic, but it should be easy to identify.

Great! I'll take a look.

And you Sir, get the god star award!

I would have thought it somewhere underneath the car. Seems you also found the true issue with my Transmission Service Required code as well. Seems that technically, I don't have a sensor at the moment. At least not one connected to the car. I need to actually replace the short harness that goes to the sensor instead. As if that will be easy to find. Turns out, they are apparently quite delicious.

So, it looks like that harness goes to Two sensors. One straight down below the air filter box, which two of the wires in the harness go to, and the other two wires run over the transmission, closer to the firewall to another blue transmission sensor. That rear sensor is completely not connected due to some furry critter chewing through it. It appears the dealer cannot seem to find a new harness part number and says I need an engine harness and it will be part of that. Ummmm NO! If nothing else I will splice some wire in, but the resistance increase may cause the trouble code as well. There is obviously a plug, one to the main harness and two on the other end for sensors. I'll keep digging. I think I saw a kit for that somewhere.

Found a harness. It was about $220 from the dealer in Ft Worth, but then I would have an added drop ship charge and they have to order the part anyway. I located one (with help from the Dealer in Ft Worth) through Tasca Parts in RI. $189 shipped. They have to order it as well, and won't have it until Tuesday, so maybe I will have it by the end of next week. Hoping my car can handle a little commuting back and forth down to Dallas in the mean time.
So it is a speed sensor and a neutral safety switch sensor that the harness conects to. For future reference, here is the part number 30681217

Cheers,
Dennis

That's not bad! I was going to suggest going to a pick and pull junkyard if you have one close by.
