As this is our 5th overland trip to Morocco, and our route down through France and Spain to get there will be the same as the previous trips, then I will not bore you with the pictures and text of going through the same places unless we see something we missed previously, but if you wish you can refer back to the previous trip we have made, as we are sure that the weather is going to be just as cold and unhospitable as it was before at this time of year!

Brrrr! Now where did I put those thermal thingy’s?.

However, the good news is that our tour around Morocco is slightly different this time so below is the route we will be taking…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/M1.jpg

After that we come back across the Mediterranean Sea for the route back up to the UK which has been included as we again make a diversion into Portugal and a new place to have a look around in Spain…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/M2.jpg

So now all that remains to be said as we make sure all the things we need are packed including this time the 12Kg of Porridge!

A warm ‘Welcome’ to previous and new ‘Travellers in the Third Seat’ which we hope you will find comfortable in ‘Flamenco Red’ (That’s the Swedish ‘Tug’) and enjoy this tour as we haul the ‘Tin Tent’ (That’s the Caravan) South to a warmer climate as the forecast is for a Long Hard Winter in the UK!

Next Stop…………Eurotunnel!

I thought I could hear you 'Chomping at the bit'! :D:D

I like the sound of a spoonful of Maple Syrup for the porridge in the mornings!
It could take over from my 'normal' spoonful of Honey! [thumbup]

Thanks

Stage 1 – UK to Algeciras (Spain)

Our first part was from South Wales down to Folkestone and Eurotunnel for the trip under the English Channel…..

As we rolled along our ‘regular route’ from the UK to the bottom of Spain for the ferry to Tanger Med in Morocco I think we had caught out ‘Mother Nature’ as the further South we got the more vivid the colours of the leaves on the trees became, which with the wet and cold weather it was quite surprising to see!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S1-1.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S1-2.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S1-3.jpg

No matter what the weather is like, in all the towns we have spent time, mid afternoon sees all the Boules Players out having another game, while some places like this one have that many players they have matches between teams!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S1-4.jpg

While in the town of Roullet it was good to see that the local supermarket has been acquired by a multi-national company and is now back up and running, but being Monday in France it was closed!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S1-5.jpg

While today after a rather long day and 334 Miles we are now in Spain where the HOT water in the Heated Facilities Block on the campsite was very refreshing, as my socks after their removal very kindly made their own way to the washing bag! [sly]
Must have been something I said about ‘Feet’! :D:D:D

Stage 2 – Algeciras Port and then Tanger Med and Morocco.

After our week of travelling down through France and Spain we then headed for the Port in Algeciras to get the ferry across to Tanger Med in Morocco…..

Waiting for the Ferry Check In Office to open!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2-1.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2-2.jpg

While as the Sunrise appeared we could see a really red sky over the security fences in the port area.

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2-3.jpg

We hit a problem at the ferry office check in as our reservation could not be paid for at this office, so I had to make a very quick trip to the main office in the terminal building to pay for the reservation after going there first and being told that I paid as we checked in!!
As a result after a very frustrating 20 minutes in the terminal building, it was a quick dash back to ‘Flamenco Red’ and the ‘TinTent’ to head off to the ferry that was already nearly finished loading, as we then watched this rather long outfit struggle to get onboard……..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2-4.jpg

As the ferry then moved out of the port we could see that the Container section was considerably lighter with containers this year than last year which seemed to tell us something about the economy……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2-5.jpg

Heading out of the port entrance we swung around to head off into the Mediterranean with the view of the Rock of Gibraltar ahead of us in the early sea mist…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2-6.jpg

One of the Cafeterias on board this Ex Stena Line Ferry which we think was previously used in the UK as a number of pictures in the ship were of scenes in the UK……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2-7.jpg

90 minutes later and we are swinging around in the harbour in Tanger Med to dock and start disembarking to head to the Border & Immigration Control check points…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2-8.jpg

Clear those points and then it is off onto the Moroccan Motorway to head for our first campsite in Kenitra……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2-9.jpg

More of Kenitra tomorrow…..

What about that UFO in the Container Crane photo?

Oops!

I missed that, but on closer examination and thinking about where I was when I took the picture.

It was in the Cafeteria and the 'UFO' was in fact one of the ceiling lights reflected in the window at the bow of the ship as we were not allowed to go outside.[thumbup]

Stage 2A – Our first day in Kenitra.

Firstly a few pictures of the campsite…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-1.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-2.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-3.jpg

Then it was off into the city and a quick look at the railway station……..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-4.jpg

The ‘South Line’ to Rabat, Agadir & Casablanca…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-5.jpg

The ‘North Line’ to Tanger……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-6.jpg

One of Mother Nature’s little creatures as we climbed the steps away from the railway station…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-7.jpg

Home grown produce for sale by the street sellers who were all over the city…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-8.jpg

One of the smaller city squares….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-9.jpg

One of the main roads through the city…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-10.jpg

Something like a ‘Neopolitan’ Ice Cream but in this case it was a wall….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-11.jpg

Interestingly we kept seeing the Kenitra local Buses both the BIG and small types that had a number of their windows ‘missing’ and had been replaced by large sheets of metal that have been welded in place!
Even the Glass in the Entry/Exit Doors had also been replaced with large metal sheets, but so far I cannot find out why!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-12.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-13.jpg

Shop front alley, but as it is Sunday, there are a few places that remain closed…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-14.jpg

As night time arrive we decide to head back into the city which is the time of day when most people venture out as it is normally a lot cooler, or even some would say ‘cold’!

So we initially head for a Fruit Juice Bar……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-15.jpg
As we then ordered a mixed fruit dish and it was delicious with around 7 or 8 different types of fruit in the bowl…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-16.jpg

Having finished our ‘Desert’ it was time to have a stroll along the main road to see what was on offer from the street vendors before heading off into the market streets….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-17.jpg

Tea lights which looked rather nice but sadly not a good picture, sorry!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-18.jpg

As we then get to the start of the market streets….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-19.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-20.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S2A-21.jpg

Then we made our way back to the campsite, with a forecast of Rain and a significant drop in the temperature for the next 7 days!!!

Winter 2016-2017

Stage 3 – Kenitra to Mohammedia.

After another very wet night we decided to pull out of Kenitra and head further down the coast to Mohammedia and the next campsite which is Le Ocean Blue which we have not been to before…..

While the ‘greeting’ this morning as I opened the door of the ‘TinTent’ in Kenitra was of a growing ‘Paddling Pool’!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-1.jpg

Having then packed up and paid the bill, then got on the road we found ourselves on a new Autoroute that was not on the Map in the GPS device, with this ‘Futuristic Bridge’ going over one of the rivers!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-2.jpg

After then heading for one of the ‘Exits’ we found ourselves initially going ‘across country’ and back to the ‘A1’ Autoroute which went around the city of Rabat with these blocks of flats on the right hand side…...

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-3.jpg

Then we come off the ‘A1’ and onto the road into Mohammedia which is not good with all the rain……..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-4.jpg

At this point, we had a choice: 1) Try and go around the ‘lake’ to the left. Or 2) Head over to our right and go around that way…….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-5.jpg

We headed over to the right and went around the ‘lake’ that way as you never know if there are any DEEP ‘potholes’ that you can literally ‘drop’ into and possibly knacker your suspension leg or collapse the tyre or both!

While a little bit further on after turning left and going through the ‘Holiday Complex’ we found ourselves going along the ‘Beach Road’ to get to the campsite!!!…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-6.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-7.jpg

As the entrance finally appears in front…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-8.jpg

Came back to take the next pictures after it had stopped tipping it down!……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-9.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-10.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-11.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-12.jpg

As it had stopped raining albeit for a short period we ventured out to have a look at the beach, with the following results……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-13.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-14.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-16.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-17.jpg

The ‘Wall of Water’ just before it rolled over!.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-18.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-19.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-21.jpg

It seemed a bit strange to find what looked like very large pieces of dead coral sat on top of what looked like lava that had set as the sea bed……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-22.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-23.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-24.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-25.jpg

Looks like the Sea Snails are getting ready for a ‘party’ as the tide comes in, although it looks very rough out at sea!!...

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3-26.jpg

Forecast is currently for at least another week of rain and high winds at times!

P.s. The Electric Kettle 'died' this morning which was the reason the Mains Hook Up (220V) failed as we were just finishing breakfast!
So if anyone knows where I can get a 900W Electric Kettle over here, then let me know as we are currently using the backup of the 'Gas Kettle'!

Hope that the rain does not continue. Other than the rain the trip looks nice so far. The wave pictures are good ones. It does look like they are strongly storm driven.

The bad news for us is that the rain is continuing, which makes the trip not as good as we had hoped, but considering that we are a week earlier than last year and the weather then which was quite wet, I think this is a 'pattern' for this time of year.

Glad you like the wave picture, there is another one to follow as you are correct in that they are 'storm driven' and the Sea has not quite settled down yet!

Stage 3A – First day in Mohammedia.

While the next ‘greeting’ this morning as I opened the door of the ‘TinTent’ in Mohammedia was another ‘Paddling Pool’!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3A-1.jpg

The rest of the campsite in parts was in even worse ‘condition’!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3A-2.jpg

Shortly after we hear this ‘knocking/banging’ and opening the door I see this…...

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3A-3.jpg

As the ‘sinkhole’ lets the ‘Paddling Pool’ disappear, but the hole stays there till I put the stones back in place!……..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3A-4.jpg

After breakfast we decide as the rain has stopped to head into the town of Mohammedia for a look around, initially heading for the Port which we then found we could not get to as it was behind the wall on the left of the next picture as we saw the beach to our right…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3A-5.jpg

As the Sea looks to be quite ‘calm’ here…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3A-6.jpg

The rather expensive ‘Ship Restaurant’, down by the Port…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3A-7.jpg

As we then come back to the nice gardens to stroll through as we make our way to the town centre and the Medina…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3A-8.jpg

With this church on the right hand side ……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3A-9.jpg

Now inside the Medina and the Mosque is just ahead…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3A-10.jpg

Not everyone is ‘Open for business’ thanks to the weather…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3A-11.jpg

As we found a replacement ‘Kettle’ which met the required ‘Spec’ we headed back to the campsite and for a walk along the beach going the opposite way to yesterday, but keeping a careful eye on the next belt of rain that was approaching!!!....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3A-12.jpg

Looking back we could see how the campsite was being ‘squeezed’ between the two blocks of Holiday Apartments who we understand are trying to put the campsite out of business, by initially making it difficult to access the campsite……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3A-13.jpg

While on this part of the coast the Sea is still in ‘Storm’ mode…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3A-14.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3A-15.jpg

As we then felt the next LARGE raindrops descend from the sky above it was time to head back rather quickly to the campsite and take cover in the ‘TinTent’!!.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3A-16.jpg

While it looks like more of the same weather tomorrow.....

Stage 3B – Third day in Mohammedia.

As our second day in Mohammedia was a total washout our third day was a complete change in the weather with bright blue sky while being very windy which was good as it meant we could get the clothes washing done and out of the way!…..

After getting that out of the way along with a trip to the Marjane and local produce market we then took a nice ride on the bikes along the sea front.
As we have traveled along we got the impression that in a very short time it will be the same here with enough property to cover the next 10 years of people looking to buy apartments to live as well as ‘holiday homes’……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3B-1.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3B-6.jpg

From the sides of the new properties either side, this old Blue & White coloured recreation area is literally falling apart!…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3B-7.jpg

The new building work is so intense….
http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3B-8.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3B-9.jpg

The ‘Portakabin Sales Office’ for a block of flats under construction….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3B-10.jpg

While on the other side of the road inside the small blue and white building is the Mains Electricity Distribution Sub Station (You can hear it ‘humming’ as you walk across the doors!)…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3B-11.jpg

The next ‘plot’ for development, which currently is being used as a dump for everyone else’s construction waste material!.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3B-12.jpg

A nice little bay a bit further along the coast…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3B-13.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3B-14.jpg

Even the ‘graffiti’ artists are getting to work!.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3B-15.jpg

As we see some of the more ‘permanent’ but I have to say ‘Wild’ residents on a traffic island in amongst the properties…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3B-16.jpg

With the horticulture on the wall of one of the older properties that is also in the process of falling apart…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S3B-17.jpg

For me this block of flats stood out more purely because of its design and colour, as the others just looked like concrete boxes piled on top of each other, but this one had some character to it…..

Stage 4 – Mohammedia to El Jadida and then on again.

We decided to head out of Mohammedia on our 4th day and set off for El Jadida.

As we had stayed there before we knew what the campsite was like as no maintenance seems to be carried out from one year to the next and when facilities breakdown they do not seem to register for repair, so we decided on one night as we had our own facilities to keep us going if all else failed.

While the rain did not let up that noise was joined by the barking dogs which were outside the campsite and made sleep a virtual impossibility!…..

So at 08:30 the following morning we were back on the road heading to a place called Ounara and Essouaria.
Little did we know what was in front of us on the N1 (Route National)!

An ominous sky and a lot of rainwater around from yesterday and last night….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-1.jpg

As the rain then backed off there was still a lot or rainwater on the ground….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-2.jpg

But life went on over here…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-8.jpg

It looked like this place had had another downpour just before we arrived and started to make our way through……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-9.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-10.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-11.jpg

A new water tower under construction on the left as the old one on the right does not have enough capacity for the ‘growing’ town.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-12.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-13.jpg

At this point we found the rain water starting to come off the surrounding land and across the road…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-14.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-15.jpg

Then a couple of miles further along the road we came to a ‘bigger problem’ with all the traffic stopped …..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-16.jpg

As we pulled off the road and everyone else stayed on the rainwater was coming off the fields, onto the road and then off the road into the gulley in front of us, while further along the road it seemed to be around 3 inches deep…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-17.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-18.jpg

Meanwhile it didn’t stop traffic coming the other way……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-19.jpg

So with that this little car takes off after having a few ‘words’ with the Gendarme who was supposed to be in control of what was going on……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-20.jpg

Then a couple of minutes later we see this truck rolling towards us…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-21.jpg

With that as the truck passes by 3 cars in front set off and we followed keeping an eye on the right hand edge of the road and trying not to set up to much of a ‘bow wave’ while keeping the engine revs up!…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-22.jpg

Now we can see the road!......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-23.jpg

Now you don’t and this section was deeper than the previous bit……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-24.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-25.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-26.jpg

As we got through that lot, after another mile we came again to a ‘dead stop’ to be advised by the Gendarme on duty that a bridge on the N1 road ahead had been washed away by the rain so the road was impassable and we would have to turn around and head to Safi and use the coast road as an alternative!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-27.jpg

So having then turned around we headed back the way we came for several miles and then turned left onto the road to Safi and as time was marching on we decided to head for the campsite in Safi as both the ‘Tin Tent’ and ‘Flamenco Red’ were covered in the residue from the rainwater while it had also been a very long day to have covered the short distance that we had traveled…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-28.jpg

As we pulled onto the campsite my good lady got out to check the position and then came to tell me: “The rear of the ‘TinTent’ is missing”!

Somewhere after turning onto the Safi road and negotiating a couple of sections of the road were the floodwater on it meant going around, the rear plastic panel including the registration plate and lights for it had been torn off the ‘TinTent’!!!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-29.jpg

While ‘Flamenco Red’ looked like it had just come out of a mud bath!.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4-30.jpg

So tomorrow we are off to see if we can get a number plate ‘copy’ made, along with an illumination light and with the help of that wonderful ‘invention’ called DuckTape and a few screws get ourselves sorted out and back up and running once more!...

This has to have been the wettest trip we have had to Morocco for us, but even after what we went through today, considering there is a large ventilation hole underneath the gas fire it still works when I tried it tonight, and there was no water inside the ‘TinTent’……

Stage 4A – Safi and the ‘Temporary Repair’

Well it got a little better today but sadly it didn’t last…….

With the help of a young Moroccan man who offered his help we went into Safi to purchase a ‘copy’ number plate for the ‘TinTent’ which was made by spraying the ‘Yellow’ background onto a Moroccan car number plate and then putting the letters on after the paint had dried!!!

It looks better than the original UK plate but thanks to this thing about Internet Security, then you are only going to see the’ XCVolvo.com’ website link as the number plate is in the back window of the ‘TinTent’ underneath the ‘XCVolvo.com’ plastic cover…….
Sorry, but Privacy is so important with this ‘unsecure thing’ called the Internet!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S4A-1.jpg

After getting the number plate in place & blanking off the ‘voids’ on either side of where the centre section of what is called the ‘Hobby Bumper’ fits, which to be honest would impact if a Chicken jumped up and pecked it as you went past, as it is for ‘Cosmetic purposes’ only, we felt ready to get back on the road South………except!

In conversation with the occupants of a ‘Camper’ after our experience of the road being ‘closed’ on the Route National ‘N1’ due to a bridge being washed away, it turns out as they set off to ‘Go South’ via the Coast Road today that on advice from the Gendarme the ‘Coast Road’ is unadvisable due to a large amount of Road Works being in place, so they took that advice and returned!

So it seems like we are a bit ‘stuck’ here for a few days as the Military and ‘Bailey Bridges’ are not something you will find in Morocco even though this type of weather has been knocking on the door and happening for a few years now…..

Let’s hope the Sunshine continues tomorrow…….

Stage 5 – Safi finally to Essouaria!

I spoke with the campsite manager in Safi this morning after he went to Essouaria yesterday and managed to return!!

So without further ado we wound up the legs on the ‘TinTent’ and set off to Essouaria via the Route National N1, the one that gave us the ‘problems’ a few days ago, when a bridge was washed away!.....

But first we have to get through the centre of Safi........

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S5-2.jpg

As we then travel along the road that we came in on as we make our way back to the N1…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S5-3.jpg

Passing the trees that have received a significant ‘Haircut’……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S5-4.jpg

Finally to the junction of the N1 and into the first town…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S5-5.jpg

As we roll along the N1 all looks OK as we come to the section where the bridge was washed out and a deviation was now in place just before the town of Zghiat…..

As we came into Zghiat we spot this…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S5-17.jpg

With the typical Moroccan ‘Straw Truck’ coming towards us…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S5-18.jpg

Then we came to another ‘deviation’ but not as difficult as the last one……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S5-32.jpg

Stage 6 – Essouaria to Taghazout

After not a lot of sleep from 02:00hrs this morning thanks to once again the noise of the local ‘Dog Pack’ the Sunrise had a touch of redness in it that was nicely placed around the bush outside the ‘TinTent’ while the Guardien who is supposed to be looking after the place was also nowhere to be seen……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S6-1.jpg

So after a quick breakfast we set off past the lighthouse which was also ‘quiet’ in the daylight as the lamp had been turned off and started to make our way South again…….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S6-2.jpg

Coming to a small town quite soon that looked like it was getting set up to have a Donkey Derby!…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S6-3.jpg

While it was in fact ‘Market Day’ and the locals were in the process of getting set up to conduct their business ……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S6-4.jpg

Push on to the next town that seemed to be a bit ‘quieter’ as there were not many people around on the main road through the centre…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S6-5.jpg

As we then start the hill climbing on decent road and nicer scenery as we travel along…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S6-19.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S6-20.jpg

As we come into the Town of Tigert, with a stop to get a couple of ‘Hobs’ which are the Moroccan small round loaves of bread shaped like a Discus and very tasty, especially when they have just been baked and you cut them open and spread some butter on the inside!
WOW, I am starting to drool as I think about and write this!!!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S6-21.jpg

This is also the area where they grow small Bananas which are around 3 to 4 inches long and very nice, full of flavour and straight off the plant to the shop which is a very short distance away…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S6-22.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S6-23.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S6-24.jpg

Then a little bit further on and we turn left onto the 1km of ‘piste’ that has never been improved in the 5 years we have been coming to Morocco, so you have to go very slowly so you don’t shake yourself and your outfit apart as you go along it to get to the campsite……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S6-25.jpg

After checking in and getting a pitch, we get set up and just have a nice relaxing day as the temperature climbs to a very warm 23C.
A bit later on I tried to use the Wi-Fi on the campsite and found it wasn’t working, then going over to the office there was another man in there and the proprietor was not a ‘Happy Bunny’ having been asked by a few of the people if the ‘fault’ could be fixed, as I thought she was having a right ‘tantrum’ at one point!
I left it and went back around 1 hour later to find it was still ‘broken’ and having pointed out that I could not even log onto the access point Madam finally looks and finds the cable is not plugged in!

While I then found that the Wi-Fi external ariel is very limited in its coverage of the campsite and anyone to the side or rear of reception is unable to get the signal.

So I went over to using my Maroc Telecom Dongle which is providing a much better service than the Wi-Fi here.

Time for a bit more ‘relaxation’ as we get a nice Sunset…..

Stage 7 – Taghazoute to Sidi Ouassai

Decided to get back on the road again this morning as I don’t see why you should be expected to pay top dollar for receiving less than 100% of what is advertised……

Setting off on the N1 after negotiating the 1km of ‘dirt track’ from the campsite we came to a ‘new road’ that was not showing up on the GPS system, while it seems to go directly to Agadir, but as we wanted to get some really fresh Bananas we stuck with the ‘old road’…….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7-1.jpg

While even the ‘old road’ has been modernised as the coast along here is undergoing a massive development with holiday apartments being built all along …….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7-2.jpg

As we then came into the next village on the outskirts of Agadir….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7-3.jpg

Just around the corner is the small shop that sells nothing but Bananas that are still attached to the stalk of the Banana Tree…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7-4.jpg

Then it was back on the road and not long before we are entering Agadir…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7-5.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7-6.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7-9.jpg

After a quick visit into the Marjane Supermarket for a few more groceries we get back on the N1 and start to go through some of the places that very soon with all the building that is going on, be consumed by an ever expanding Agadir….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7-22.jpg

As we start to climb up the road we can see to our left that this area is quite fertile……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7-23.jpg

As we get over the top and follow the Camper down the other side. Just in front of that Camper in the next picture I spot a sign on the side of a house that says ‘Boulangerie Pattisserie’ and the door is open! …..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7-24.jpg

So I pull over and go over to have a look, while the aroma of freshly baked bread is wafting around and making me feel decidedly hungry as it is past lunchtime!
So after making the greeting of ‘Salam Alikum’ to which I get a beautiful smile from the young girl in the bakery, I then ask for ‘Jus Hobs’ (2 Hobs), so the young girl disappears and a couple of minutes later re-appears with the bread which has just been baked!

It was that HOT that even though it was wrapped in clean white paper, I nearly dropped it taking it back to the car!
But it stayed warm and was delicious for our late lunch which came as soon as we had checked in and got set up on the pitch in Camping Wassay!!!...

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7-25.jpg

Then not very long after the rain came back……

Still the water in the showers was a lot better and HOTTER than standing outside with a bar of soap for a quick scrub down!....[thumbup]

Let’s see what happens tomorrow……

Stage 7A – Our first day in Sidi Ouassai

WOW! What a really peaceful and quite night last night, with possibly the best night’s sleep I’ve had since we set off on this trip…….

After breakfast we ventured out to go for another of those delicious ‘Hobs’ from the little Boulanger that we called into as we arrived and here it is…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-1.jpg

Having then got our ‘Hobs’ for the day, we set off back along the road to the campsite…….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-2.jpg

But then turned right just before the campsite as something caught my eye at the end of a road on our right, and it was this strange looking ‘oven’.….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-3.jpg

From the signs on the outside, it looks like it is used to cook Pizzas, but as this is ‘low season’ with very few visitors then the building alongside is closed…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-4.jpg

So we then head off on the beach road …..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-5.jpg

Watching the rain showers move in further along the beach…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-6.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-7.jpg

Going back along the road we pass by this Café/Restaurant/Hotel which is huge while it is open for business…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-8.jpg

While as we continue along the road we see the places where all the rain has washed away the roadsides and left quite deep grooves in the soil at the side as the roads here have no built in drainage……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-9.jpg

The turning left we find the Hairdresser with some rather attractive prices for a haircut for both men and women, while they also offer ‘showers’!!!….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-10.jpg

While a little bit further up the road we find what look like several ‘dung beetles’ walking around……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-11.jpg

As we continue along the road and come out the other side we see yet another rain shower along the beach coming off the sea……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-12.jpg

As we then get back to the beach by the campsite……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-13.jpg

Getting closer I can see clumps of Muscles clinging to the rocks, but the tide was on its way in and with nothing to carry any that were collected I decided to return tomorrow with a plastic bucket or bag to get some……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-14.jpg

As the view along the beach starts to get a bit misty……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-15.jpg

Going back into the campsite at the front gate which is directly onto the beach we can see what was the restaurant that is now going through a complete refurbishment while they are hoping to have it open by 15th December 2016 …..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-16.jpg

Around the back of the restaurant is this artificial well complete with the type of water bucket that we have seen in other southern parts of Morocco where the village water is drawn from a well……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-17.jpg

This water bucket like so many others we have seen is made from a Truck Tyre!…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-18.jpg

If you look at the next picture closely I hope you can see the letters up near the top edge of the bucket……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-19.jpg

A little further back are the Berber Tents…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-20.jpg

The swimming pool…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-21.jpg

As the holiday apartments outside the campsite continue to expand……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-22.jpg

As we come to the end of a reasonable day……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-23.jpg

The Sun sinks once again over the horizon…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-24.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7A-25.jpg

While the weather is supposed to be ‘improving’ tomorrow, I am not inclined to try holding my breath, especially when you look at what is happening currently in the rest of this planet of ours…..

Good night……

Stage 7B – Second and third day’s here in Sidi Ouassai

Having been for a stroll down to the beach I noticed that there appeared to be a large number of Muscles growing on the rocks along the beach and as I quite like them I set off to have a better look…….

Sadly I got the tide times wrong as the tide was incoming and not outgoing so decided to leave it till tomorrow…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7B-1.jpg

Having said that, climbing around the rocks along the shoreline can be a little ‘tricky’ as they are very rough and sharp …….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7B-2.jpg

While the Muscles are quite small in size as you see the clumps clinging to the various rocks.….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7B-9.jpg

As we walk along the top of the rocks we see this large piece that has broken off but it looks like rock that has been given a coating of ‘sand’ but the rock does not crumble underfoot….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7B-10.jpg

While down on the beach is this small ‘cave’ in the rock formation which is not very deep inside……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7B-11.jpg

Muscle ‘hunting’ over we decide to head off into the small town of Massa , passing this cyclist who is cycling around Morocco!……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7B-12.jpg

As we then see these two ladies with heavily laden Donkeys bringing home the fodder for the animals that are kept at home…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7B-15.jpg

As this game of football is being played…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7B-18.jpg

Then we come to the main road to going to Massa as we pass through a couple of small villages on the way……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7B-19.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7B-20.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7B-23.jpg

As we get into Massa we go into a Café for a coffee which is run by a man from the Berber folk here in Morocco and who speaks good English and has travelled to different countries from which he purchased the bicycle on the left in the next picture which came from Holland, that you pedal backwards to activate the braking system!…..

The bike on the far right is from Italy and can be ‘split in two’ via the clamp in the middle of the frame, while the man thinks the bike in the middle came from Belgium…..

As we ordered the 2 coffees even though they were ‘instant’ we were offered as a gesture of a really nice hospitality a small piece of cake each which was very tasty!
You don’t get that sort of thing back home!!!…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7B-26.jpg

As we then started to make our way back after getting 1Kg of those small but very tasty Bananas as we were running out, we see this group of boys also having a game of football in the middle of the main road!......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7B-27.jpg

Then the following day having looked up the Tide Times for the area I head off again to the beach on another ‘Muscle hunt’!......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7B-28.jpg

While as I keep an eye on the waves coming in I manage to get some Muscles from off the rocks, but they are not that big even though I try to select the biggest in the ones that are there……

I understand from a friend back home that's what we left behind as the temperature dropped a few days after we left!

So I think we were lucky this time as we normally experience ICE on the INSIDE of the front window of the 'TinTent' as we travel down through France, but this time it didn't happen, we got lots of rain instead! :(

Stage 7C – Fourth day here in Sidi Ouassai

Set off for a stroll along the beach this morning which you can ‘stroll’ for a very long way as we see that Mother Nature promotes ‘life’ above the high water mark along the shoreline possibly based on the amount of humidity that occurs during the night…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7C-1.jpg

‘The Beach’ on a nice day as the tide is going out …….

One of the 5 small Fishing Boats not far off shore.….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7C-3.jpg

The very end of Sidi Ouassai……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7C-4.jpg

In the middle of the next picture in the centre of that Rock, it was shaped like a ‘seat’ so I tried that famous move of King Canute of stopping the Sea in it’s tracks, sadly like him, for me, it didn’t work, as it came back in and bit me as I ended up with both wet feet and shorts!!!....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7C-5.jpg

The beach looking the other way……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7C-8.jpg

Now you see the Fishing Boat…….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7C-9.jpg

Now it’s nearly disappeared thanks to the swell on the sea, BUT it hasn’t sunk, as that wave across the picture was about to ‘roll over’!......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7C-10.jpg

As it then did (The wave that is)……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7C-11.jpg

As the wave then rolling onto the beach produces the ‘undercurrent’ as it rolls back out, and it was quite strong and looked like two forces colliding!……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7C-13.jpg

As we came off the beach we spot this nicely decorated property……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7C-14.jpg

After a nice afternoon of being totally lazy and enjoying the sunshine it was time for Mother Nature to start closing off the flowers and their displays in the plants on the campsite as the day came to a close……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7C-16.jpg

Stage 7D – Fifth & Sixth day here in Sidi Ouassai

After breakfast and another nice stroll along the beach we needed a few bits and pieces so we set off again to the town of Massa, and it wasn’t long before we are in the main road through the town …..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/7D-1.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/7D-2.jpg

As we set off to look for the items we wanted we spot this Bread & Cake shop with the wood fired ‘Oven’ outside that is shaped like half an Egg and made from Mud & Straw, similar to the walls of houses and the walls separating fields in the Southern part of Morocco as the Mud when mixed with the Straw makes it very strong and resilient.

While some of the raw ingredients for making the Bread & Cakes were in sacks next to the 'Oven' as the baked Cakes and Biscuits were behind the window in the shop, the aroma from the fresh bread really made your mouth water!.….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/7D-3.jpg

So it was one large ‘Hob’ and a box of mixed biscuits which were very nice but surprisingly not as sweet as we expected, so the sugar used when making them must have been reduced……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/7D-4.jpg

A bit further along the road we pass a shop that carries out alterations in clothes and outside was this well past it’s use by date sewing machine that looked like it was not being used for spares as there were two others inside the shop still in use......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/7D-5.jpg

Finally have a nice coffee and then head back to the campsite for a lazy afternoon and to watch the Sunset……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/7D-6.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/7D-7.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/7D-8.jpg

The next day was another stroll on the beach after breakfast with a couple of jobs on the ‘TinTent’ and ‘Flamenco Red’ then we sat down for a coffee and one of those biscuits we bought in Massa yesterday and watched this Ant pick up a large crumb and start to carry it back to the nest…….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/7D-9.jpg

When the Ant came to the plastic mat we had on the ground in front of the ‘TinTent’ it really struggled to get the crumb up over the edge and made several attempts before it finally succeeded, but it wasn’t giving up and tried a few places along the edge of the mat before it found one small part low enough to lift and push the crumb over!......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/7D-10.jpg

After moving on a couple of inches it seemed to stop for around 30 seconds taking a ‘breather’ after the struggle of getting the crumb onto the mat, before it then once again set off with its prize back to the nest……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/7D-11.jpg

A little bit later on the electronics engineer arrived on site to start the new installation of 4 Wi-Fi Connection Points that should provide Wi-Fi access across the whole of the campsite, but we will have to wait 48 hours for the installation to be completed and the system activated for use……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/7D-12.jpg

With the nice warm sunshine and a temperature of 24C today it made it another relaxing afternoon as the day slipped away and Sunset once again took over…..

Stage 7E – Seventh day here in Sidi Ouassai

With another very relaxing day under our belts, the only interesting part of today was the Sunset, and so all the pictures in this batch are from just that, so if anyone is bored or upset with so many pictures then ‘Sorry’, but I was in ‘Seventh Heaven’ and totally mesmerised watching it happen…..

Stage 7F – Our eighth day here in Sidi Ouassai

While having to get out of nice warm bed in the small hours of the morning to answer a call of nature is I guess one of the downsides of getting older, but each time it happens I take a look outside and see quite a nice view of all the heavenly stars.
So at 04:30hrs this morning after satisfying that ‘call of nature’ I got dressed and took the camera outside along with the tripod to try and get a couple of nice pictures but just my luck as I looked at the pictures later it didn’t work!
Grumble grumble!…..

However I did manage to get what I think is a rather eerie picture of the Moonlight on the sea…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7F-1.jpg

Then as nothing happened worth noting today it was once again time for the Sunset only this time there was a very long dark cloud in the sky which produced a whole new difference in the colours…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7F-2.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7F-3.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S7F-4.jpg

Even though the sky seemed to be on fire, the temperature had dropped quite significantly and I was glad I made sure I had my fleece jacket on as there are quite a few people here who seem to be suffering with colds or some form of influenza!......

Stage 8 – Back on the road from Sidi Ouassai to Tiznit

After our last day here at Wassay Beach Camping and a very nice but ‘plain’ Sunset this evening…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-1.jpg

As I then turned through 180 Degrees to see what looked like a full moon creeping up over the blocks of flats just outside the campsite…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-2.jpg

It was time to hit the road once again for the short trip to the city of Tiznit as we came away from the campsite and made our way through the village of Agbalou the road suddenly became wider, then as we got out the other side it narrowed again! Don’t follow the logic of why that happens as we have seen it in a number of places……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-3.jpg

The as we get back on the Route National ‘N1’ we run into several sections of ‘Road Works’ where not only do they have the Speed Limit signs but they also have elevated sections of tarmacadam across the road that slow you down or break your suspension if you try to go over them to fast!!......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-4.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-5.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-6.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-7.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-8.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-11.jpg

After getting through the sections of ‘Roadworks’ and then calling into a fuel station to fill the tank with diesel in ‘Flamenco Red’ as there has just been the first hike in the prices over here but thankfully it hasn’t gone up by as much as some places we have heard about, we roll into Tiznit and one of the gates to the Medina

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-12.jpg

Having then tried to ‘Check in’ to the Camping International Tiznit the man there was not happy at being presented with our copy passports that have been accepted everywhere else, as the real ones are locked away for security, so we pulled out, parked up and went shopping for some much needed items in the local supermarket , but they didn’t sell any vegetables or fruit!

So we went to an alternative campsite, Camping Tizerzite who accepted the copy passports. Got set up on a place and then went back into Tiznit for the Fruit & Veg!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-13.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-14.jpg

As we came to all the stalls there was plenty of variety and it was all fresh produce, unlike some of the supermarkets we frequent back home!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-15.jpg

As we then went for a stroll around……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-16.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-17.jpg

Outside the Medina are quite a few Cactus plants but no fruit on them yet……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-18.jpg

Then just a little bit further along the road we spot this double mattress that seems to be still in use, maybe a good ‘Stargazing’ spot!......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-19.jpg

As we then pass a property with some nice flowers growing inside while all the broken glass cemented into the top of the wall acts as a deterrent to anyone contemplating trying to get in!.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-20.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-21.jpg

Time to head back to the alternative campsite ‘Tizerzite’ and it’s wide open space as there are only 10 Campers in the place including us!......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-22.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-23.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-24.jpg
The ‘facilities’ which are very clean and provide very HOT water when taking a shower!......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-25.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-26.jpg

As we then looked across the campsite we could see 2 small animals running around in the rocks, but could not quite make out what they were…...
So getting the camera and trying to be as quiet as possible I set off to get closer, and this is what I got to see!......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-27.jpg

Looks like a ‘Chipmunk’?......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-29.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8-30.jpg

Back in Wassay Beach after a couple of days you got used to the noise of the waves pounding on the beach, while coming here the contrast with what amounts to total ‘Silence’ is amazing, so I might get a good night’s sleep!......

Good night……

Stage 8A – Campsite Move in Tiznit

We received a message letting us know that there is a campsite much closer to Tiznit that is not large, has excellent facilities and good communication links, so as Tizerzite has no communication links and the Maroc Dongle was not doing very well we decided after the first night to move to Targua International Camping but taking a slightly longer route as initially the GPS wanted us to go through the centre of Tiznit and the road with all the fruit and vegetable stalls which was a definite ‘No-No’!......

So after going around the town and coming in from the North, and through this little village…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8A-1.jpg

We arrive at this rather nice site…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8A-2.jpg

After getting set up we went into Tiznit to have a short look around before meeting up with some friends for coffee, so you cannot miss seeing the Medina wall as you head in……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8A-3.jpg

While walking around inside the Medina we came to this old Water Well site which has from memory been refurnished from the last time we were here, while the Well shaft itself has been covered over......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8A-4.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8A-5.jpg

But there must be some water still around as these plants were still OK……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8A-6.jpg

While a bit further down the road was the Mosque but we have never seen one with the wooden branches sticking out of the corners like this one has……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8A-7.jpg

Then making a right turn we come to ‘Le Source Bleu’ which is the original water source of the city with the two ‘beehive’ shaped structures on the far side……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8A-8.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8A-9.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8A-10.jpg

Not entirely sure what these were used for…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8A-11.jpg

While inside there are steps going down, but as the doorway has a locked gate on it then you cannot go down to see what is there……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8A-12.jpg

Rather nice entrance to a house in the road……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8A-13.jpg

As we then made our way back to the main road through the Medina we saw all this smoke and wondered what it was?
It’s the Boulangerie making more bread as they had none for sale when we went into the shop to get some, but the man behind the counter had no problem in advising us of another Boulangerie just a bit further up the road!......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8A-14.jpg

Met up with our friends for a coffee and a chat, then made our way back to the campsite for a quiet evening and to firstly get some medicine inside me to try and sort out this head cold that has been bugging me for the last month, then see if I could make any progress on obtaining the parts for the ‘TinTent’ repair, then as it got dark we found this ‘visitor’ on the top of one of the chairs we use outside……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8A-15.jpg

That’s it for today! I’m sneezing my head off here, so I’m going to bed!!!

Stage 8B – Tiznit City strolling around looking at life here

We spent today having a nice leisurely stroll around Tiznit looking at different aspects of the city……

As we come up to the Medina and one of the gates while on the opposite side of the road is this Cactus with what look like ripe red fruits on the top……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-1.jpg

Then we crossed over and went into the Medina through this gate…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-2.jpg

As we crossed over the road to go through the gate the view up the road gives you some idea of the size of the Medina by the length of the wall and we were perhaps 1/3 of the way along from the bottom!……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-3.jpg

While on the inside as it was just after 09:30 some of the small shops were still closed……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-4.jpg

But this lady was out shopping for different items while balancing her shopping bag on her head, as she was eating a piece of bread presumably for her breakfast!......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-5.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-6.jpg

Tiznit being famous for silver jewellery, you see some shops in small areas offering ‘Bijoux’ and this was one……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-7.jpg

Mopeds either waiting for new owners or repair……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-8.jpg

As we pass this small garden quite close to the Army Barracks……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-9.jpg

Entrance to one of the smaller Souk’s which is being refurbished…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-10.jpg

With only a couple of the shops open…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-11.jpg

Shopping arcade along one of the roads inside the Medina……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-12.jpg

Turning right at the end of the shopping arcade you see this large entrance gate to the Medina……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-13.jpg

Outside that large entrance gate on the opposite side of the road is this area. On the left you have a fairly large covered market while on the right you have a number of Café’s, Patisseries’, Hotel and a couple of Banks, while the Gendarme keeps an eye on things……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-14.jpg

After paying a visit to one of the Patisseries that also had a Café attached so it was possible to enjoy a coffee and a nice cake, we crossed back over the road and went into the Market in which you could buy meat, vegetables, fruit, clothes, household items, mobile phones etc etc ……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-15.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-16.jpg

Then coming back out and around the corner we see this man on the floor with what looks like ‘wood chips’ in a pile in front of him. (Next picture towards the top middle)

The man then saw us and offered us two small pieces which we then were prompted to put in our mouth as other people were doing the same……

As our saliva softened the ‘wood’ we got the taste of Aniseed, and that is what the man was selling!......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-17.jpg

With a quick look back as we came back across the road and went through the large gate……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-18.jpg

We then see all the places trying to see anything and everything the majority of which are all second hand items and looking at some of the things that were being offered was both interesting and fascinating…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-19.jpg

Then moving further inside the Medina we come to a large area, where the car parking is controlled by 2 or 3 Guardiens and you have to pay to leave your vehicle there, while if you wish there are several men who for a price will wash and dry it for you if you want!…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-20.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-21.jpg

While in among all the hustle and bustle is this school……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8B-22.jpg

Hopefully more tomorrow as that head cold of mine is still persisting!!......

On our last day/night in Tiznit we went back into the city for a look around at night, something we had not done before ……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8C-2.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S8C-3.jpg

The main street still going strong at 20:00hrs……

Stage 9 – Back on the road from Tiznit to Sidi Ifni

After a rather heavy downpour last night we packed up this morning and headed for Sidi Ifni for our 4th visit to this town in our 5 trips here as 2 years ago the campsite was washed away after being hit by a 3 meter wall of water that came down the river after a torrential storm, now the owner is rebuilding……

We set off past the outside of the Medina in Tiznit……

Then it is back on the open road……

Up the hill then past the old houses……

As we come to the next new bridge which is also elevated in relation to the old bridge, we can see part of the ‘old road’ as it goes off to the right to join the new road, while a crash barrier prevents any access on the other side of the river ……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9-37.jpg

As we get onto the campsite and start setting up, I get the bikes off the top of ‘Flamenco Red’ and we get a surprise!
The insect we spotted on the top bar of the seat has moved to the rear tyre on my good lady’s bike and stayed there for the trip from Tiznit to Sidi Ifni hitching a ride!....
It was then helped off the tyre and into the greenery on the campsite……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9-38.jpg

As we could plainly hear the waves on the beach as the sea looked a bit ‘angry’ as we came along the coast road, we will go and take a look later……

Stage 9A – Changes in Sidi Ifni

Firstly the campsite, that goes by the name of ‘Gran Canaria’ which was very nearly completely destroyed in the flood……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9A-1.jpg

The Towers and wall along the main road survived while about 80% of the inside wall was washed away……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9A-2.jpg

The campsite entrance, now on the side leads into the campground that has now been levelled out as last year it was just a layer of hardcore on the ground that in places was very uneven ……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9A-3.jpg

While the ‘facilities block’ remained intact after the flood, it has been completely cleaned up inside now with HOT water being supplied to a ‘Dog Bath’ on the side of the building!…...

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9A-4.jpg

On the right of the next picture you should be able to see 2 Concrete Posts that along with all the others will shortly start to have the new perimeter wall built between them replacing the wall that got washed away……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9A-5.jpg

Then the black matting that you can see on the right hand side of the next picture will be taken away as the new wall is built between the concrete posts, that have been made in place and not brought in as posts and then put in the ground……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9A-6.jpg

Next we went off to see what the ‘ROAR’ was coming from the ocean at the beach……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9A-8.jpg

As we looked out to sea we could see the waves being formed a good way out, then getting bigger as they rolled in towards the beach……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9A-10.jpg

With the wind whipping the spray off the top of the waves as they rolled over……

With this Ostrich in a special area that is inside a campsite called El Barco, which is right on the seafront, and can provide some very nice coatings of ‘Salt Sea Spray’ for your outfit if you would like to stay and partake……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9A-14.jpg

The shoreline ‘Promenade’ with the last pitch and camper on the campsite visible above the ‘Prom’……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9A-15.jpg

As we then made our way into the town centre up a quite steep hill, we see this newly constructed concrete retaining wall that has been built to hold back…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9A-16.jpg

the very high earth & rock embankment behind it, which had started to crumble and slide down into the road ……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9A-17.jpg

While at the top of the road on the other side which was the old airfield, today is Market Day……

Nuts and Spices……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9A-21.jpg

By then it was time for an evening meal in this Café near the Bus Terminus……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9A-22.jpg

While the sign outside simply said……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9A-23.jpg

While we could smell the aroma, after about 10 minutes as it wasn’t quite ready when we arrived, we then got 2 bowls of the very delicious Hariri Soup, which is served with a small plate of Dates……
While at £1 per serving, ($1.30, €1.19) with a drink also costing no more, it must be one of the cheapest evening meals on the planet, while being very tasty and filling……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9A-24.jpg

As we also indulged in having a typical scene from Morocco painted on the satellite dish, that we think looks very nice……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9A-25.jpg

After a very heavy rainstorm here that lasted around 20 minutes the Internet Connection both on the campsite and with the Maroc Dongle ‘disappeared’ for around 30 minutes.
It was re-instated for a short while, but has now ‘died’ again so at the moment it looks like there will be no update taking place tonight!......

Good night!......

Stage 9B – The Sidi Ifni Old Cable Car

When we first came over in 2012 to Morocco and Sidi Ifni we saw in the Port the remains of the towers that were used to hold the Cable Car Transport that was used in the town to get items and people out to ships that could not enter the shallow water in the Port.
We also saw a couple of pictures in the then new Museum of how the Cable Car operated.
While the Museum now has a 1st Floor added the Cable Car will never be rebuilt as you will see from the additional pictures I took lower down the page when we got up really close to the buildings and structure ……

It its heyday the Cable Car looked like this…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco%202012/S17A-26.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco%202012/S17A-29.jpg

But firstly we had to get to the site by the Port on our Bikes as the pedalling exercise was badly needed!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-1.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-2.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-3.jpg

As we pass the seafront Radar Station…...

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-4.jpg

With the coastline going off to the South and the very large concrete sea defenders down in the Port……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-5.jpg

Swinging our view around we come into the Port and what look like two ‘rings’ in the water that are a ‘Fish Farm’……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-6.jpg

Just before we see the Cable Car buildings we take a look back to the town and see how it is spreading out around the old airport……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-7.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-8.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-9.jpg

As we then swing around and see the old Cable Car Towers….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-10.jpg

With the gantry and one of the now disused buildings at the place you checked in…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-11.jpg

The Cable Car main embarkation station, and where additional ‘items’ would be attached and hung underneath the passenger gondolas……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-12.jpg

The main building looking out towards the deeper water for the ferry boats……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-13.jpg

Then we get up on the roof……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-14.jpg

As I look down one of the holes in the roof I can see one of the old winding motors..…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-15.jpg

Then moving back and right we see the roadway going down into the large yard area where any vehicles for shipping would have been driven, so off we went for a look…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-16.jpg

The no longer in place entrance gate……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-17.jpg

While down at the bottom you can stand under the rails that the gondolas ran along ……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-18.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-19.jpg

While one side of the wall that had been built to stop any entry into the large embarkation building had been pulled down, I went over the bricks and inside, finding parts of the mechanism for moving the gondolas along the rails all now on the floor……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-20.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-21.jpg

The steel hawsers used to pull the gondolas along were around 3 to 4 inches in diameter……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-22.jpg

Not sure what this small gondola would have been used for but it was just lying at the rear of the building ……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-23.jpg

While at the back of the building still hanging on the rails are the two gondolas used for transporting foot passengers out to the ships……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-24.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-25.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-26.jpg

The cables used for attaching additional items to the underneath of the gondola are still connected in each corner on this one……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9B-27.jpg

Being part of the history of the town it was quite sad when I asked in the Museum on our way back to find that the pictures we saw in 2012 are no longer available to see and there is no history of the Cable Car and what it did either.

Good night!......

Hello Hank!

I guess when you have 'white out' with the Snow, then the 'green' makes it a little warmer!

Thank you for your kind wishes which are reciprocated across the Pond to you and yours.

We will be having hopefully a restful time here in Sidi Ifni over the festive season before we then move on away from the coast and head inland.

Best wishes [thumbup]

Stage 9C – Our Bus Trip to Tiznit

We thought we would try using one of the local Buses to make the journey from just outside the campsite here in Sidi Ifni back to Tiznit which is a journey of around 50 Miles and should take around 90 minutes……

So off we went after getting on and paying the fare of 40 MAD (£3.20) (€3.76) for 2 tickets we were on our way to Tiznit……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-1.jpg

As we got onto the bus we could see that some food had been spilled under a few of the seats, so the driver made a detour as we got close to Tiznit and pulled into a garage that had pressure washing equipment in place…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-2.jpg

As we then saw one of the garage people take the high pressure water hose inside the bus and wash out the inside, including a few of the seats!......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-3.jpg

Then the bus driver reversed out of the ‘Lavage Bay’ and put the bus on a ramp pointing down so the excess water from the pressure wash would drain out, while the man from the garage wiped over the wet seats, which were made of solid plastic, while the bus was made by Volvo!…...

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-4.jpg

As we arrived in Tiznit around 30 minutes late it was time for a bit of lunch, and from our 1st floor window and table we had this view albeit slightly restricted of the street outside……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-5.jpg

Lunch over it was time for a stroll around and into a part we had not been which was a small Souk, with some nice architecture…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-6.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-7.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-8.jpg

With this larger building on the opposite side of the alleyway……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-9.jpg

Then over to a nice Café-Restaurant-Boulangerie-Patisserie for a coffee and small cake….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-10.jpg

With the cake selection inside you really were spoiled for choice!......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-11.jpg

After finishing a very nice cake and coffee we went into another Souk and saw this Pottery Shop with some rather nice vases for sale, but no room for us to buy one and carry it with us!……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-12.jpg

While around the corner was some really nice looking Fruit & Vegetables on another stall……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-13.jpg

Then a bit further along are the clothes shops with a rather nice ladies brightly coloured Berber dress in the middle of the picture……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-14.jpg

An electrically powered Argan Oil making machine that grinds the Argan sliced nuts that are in the plastic bowls alongside into a paste which is then pressed to extract the Argan Oil, while the 'pressed' paste can be seen on the right of the picture while we wondered if this was used for fuel or fed to the animals, as it is certainly not just thrown away!..…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-15.jpg

As we come out of the Souk into a rather quiet side street……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-16.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-17.jpg

Meanwhile, out on the main road, if you need a Plastic Bowl, Box, Bin, Step or Seat, then this is the shop to come to……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-18.jpg

While these two shops sell la kinds of ‘Electrical Home Appliances’ but we are not sure how you get into the shops to buy anything as we couldn’t see the entrance door!......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-19.jpg

The main Mosque in Tiznit……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-20.jpg

Then we spotted the ‘Find of the day’!
There were 4 Draughts Boards (I think some people refer to them as Chequers) painted on top of a low circular concrete wall.
All 4 ‘boards’ were in use but the ‘Draughts’ instead of being circular pieces of white or blackwood, were in this country of ‘Re-cycling’ Red Coca Cola and Blue Water Bottle Tops, while another ‘board’ was using Plastic Green & Yellow Bottle Tops!.....

While the games were fascinating to watch as the rules were the same as if ‘normal’ wooden Draughts were being used, I had to decline the offer to play a game against the gent who was clearly the champion, as I did not wish to embarrass myself by being easily beaten!......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9C-21.jpg

Back on the Bus for the return trip to the campsite in Sidi Ifni where we got off right outside the campsite entrance!.....

Good night!......

Stage 9D – A bike trip us the river in Sidi Ifni

In November 2014 a storm sent a 2 meter wall of water down the river and through the valley in Sidi Ifni, so I set off today on my bike to go along the river to try and get some idea of what happened……

With the repair and upgrade work still going on in the town, taking the road out I found that I was going over ‘Roadworks’ about every 100 yards, that had been filled in with soil and just left!.......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-1.jpg

Finally getting out and away from the town I came to one of the bridges on the left in the next picture that had been washed away as the wall of water hit it, while the new road and bridge is on the right, while the river runs along the hillside on the left …..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-2.jpg

A little bit further on is the next new bridge and road, while the old bridge on the left which appears to be intact is not closed off but transport other than bikes and people walking use the new road and bridge on the right......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-3.jpg

Being ‘lightweight’ I then went over the old bridge which gave me a view of the new bridge and road…...

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-5.jpg

As I then turned left just after getting over the old bridge and onto the piste path alongside the river bed……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-4.jpg

As I then pass what looked like a 10 Tonne Truck and a Mechanical Digger digging rocks and soil from the river bed……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-6.jpg

I then going further along started to get some idea of the width of the river at this point which was about twice as wide as the point where the old bridge is……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-7.jpg

As I then met these 3 donkeys who were hobbled and doing there best to walk along the piste with their handler……

As they were then followed by this little fella who was not hobbled, and spent a few minutes rolling in the dirt before getting back on his feet and running to catch the others up!……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-9.jpg

But with the clear view you then get to see how wide the river bed is and the bends that are in it ..….

This place built into the rock face survived the flood……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-14.jpg

More excavating of the riverbed, but where the material goes I have yet to find out!..…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-15.jpg

Sadly this place didn’t survive as the wall of water hit it, the front wall caved in followed by the collapse of the roof……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-16.jpg

While these buildings seemed to have something to do with the fresh water system……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-17.jpg

The guys ‘Up the Electricity Pole’ were just finishing off installing the new mains electricity pylon ……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-18.jpg

As the ‘thick grey line’ in the next picture is the old one that collapsed during the flood while interestingly it collapsed pointing into the flood......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-19.jpg

While on the other side of the riverbed at a safe height are these Bee Hives……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-20.jpg

The next two pictures should be joined together as it looks like there is a tributary that curves away to the left and comes into the main river......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-21.jpg

While the main riverbed curves away to the right.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-22.jpg

It seems like the buildings up on the bank and away from the force of the flood survived……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-23.jpg

Try to imagine 3ft of water hurtling along in the next few pictures……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-26.jpg

As I started to make my way back I saw something in the rock face……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-27.jpg

Then zooming in I see a steel door built into the rock face……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-31.jpg

As I rode passed a building I could just see through the trees and over the fence surrounding the place that there was a large vegetable garden at the rear and the Donkeys were being used to plough a section of the vegetable garden……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-32.jpg

Then a bit further along I came to what looked like levels that were ‘Man Made’ and had been ploughed ready for crops to be planted, with steps to get up to the different levels……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-36.jpg

Then I was back with a view of the ‘old’ and now more or less disused bridge……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-37.jpg

Getting back on the road and heading back to Sidi Ifni I could then see water in the river……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-38.jpg

While this section of the road had survived and actually had a ‘Bicycle Lane’ on it!......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-39.jpg
As the river turned off to the left, there was this rather large pool on the right of the road with a Yellow Water Bowser sat on the back of a truck as a pump was pumping water into it from the river pool……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-40.jpg

While the two buildings on the far side of the river didn’t survive, the steel door of one remained in place……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-41.jpg

As I then saw this pipe going up the hillside, which was extracting water from the river to the building on top of the hill……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-42.jpg

While a few yards further on the ‘Cycle Lane’ ran out as the river washed away the road at this point as it went off around the right hand bend……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9D-43.jpg

Stage 9E – Our last day in Sidi Ifni

Started off with a walk down to the beach as it was coming up to low water and having seen the Mussel Beds I quite fancied some fresh Mussels for lunch……

While after a 15 minute walk along the beach, I was literally in the thick of them!.......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9E-1.jpg

As were a number of the ladies from the town as there is a couple of stalls in the Fish Market that offer mussels for sale, that are already cooked and their shells are removed…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9E-2.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9E-3.jpg

While away from the Mussel Harvesters I saw these other two ladies who had long metal rods in there hand with a hook fashioned into the end that was being pushed under large stones in the rock pools.

They were ‘fishing’ for Calamari, as I saw when I asked if I could have a look inside the sack that one of the ladies had in her other hand …...

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9E-4.jpg

As the ladies moved across the ocean floor, just after I took the next picture and put my mobile phone away after taking the picture, the lady ‘hooked’ a Calamari that must have been 2 feet across the width of it’s outstretched tentacles! While I had no chance of getting the mobile phone out to take another picture before it was unceremoniously dropped into her sack, even though the tentacles resisted her efforts of getting it in……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9E-5.jpg

While the image in the next picture was of one of two men who were out in the sea also looking for Calamari……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9E-6.jpg

Having then picked the quantity I wanted I made my way back, cleaned & cooked the Mussels, then shared them with the two men on the campsite who run the place as one of them is here on site 7/7/24hrs while the other man is here 7/7/8hrs . The Mussels were really nice and the guys were very grateful……

Then having sorted out a couple of jobs that needed doing and also getting some groceries in, the day had flown over, so it was time to take a look at our last sunset on the beach……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9E-7.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9E-8.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S9E-9.jpg

As the Sun then finally dipped below the waves I watched this couple on their beach stroll with their dog before I headed back to the campsite for dinner and to start getting ready for our departure tomorrow ..….

Back on the road tomorrow to Guelmim

Stage 10 – Sidi Ifni to Guelmim

Up and off by 09-30hrs this morning while it was very nice to roll along the very quiet road between Sidi Ifni & Guelmim while enjoying the nice scenery.......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-1.jpg

Yet after a long time with no rain, there is still water in the river!…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-2.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-3.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-5.jpg

The new ‘Crash Barrier’ has been fitted, while as we went past and looked left, the ‘old one’ had been dumped into the gulley down below!……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-6.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-7.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-8.jpg

As we come to a Dam on another river…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-9.jpg

But there is no water behind it!..….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-10.jpg

As we continue up the hill and through the village with ‘Flamenco Red’ ‘growling’ nicely as we roll along!......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-12.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-16.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-17.jpg

Slow down for the Shepherd and their flock so we do not startle any of the sheep and goats, which is appreciated……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-18.jpg

As we reach the outskirts of Guelmim……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-19.jpg

As the town ‘Gate’ is shortly reached……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-20.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-21.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-23.jpg

As we then reach the centre of the town……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-24.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-25.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-26.jpg

Left hand turn just up ahead, so we slow down…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-27.jpg

What we didn’t see was this ‘Monster’ in front of the camper who wanted to do a U turn on the traffic island to go back up the road we came down except the ‘Monster’ could not make it and had to reverse which caused traffic mayhem as ‘Driver Patience’ can sometimes be lacking over here!......

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-28.jpg

Road clear while the Marjane Supermarket is a couple of minutes away……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-29.jpg

Through the Police Road Check and the Marjane is off to the left as we approach the traffic island…….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-30.jpg

While we see that there is now a Fuel Station here alongside the Supermarket, but unlike the UK, there is no discount or lower price for the fuel……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-31.jpg

Fill up with a few groceries and non alcoholic liquids then we are back on the road after a serious ‘lightening’ of the wallet at the Marjane to our next campsite which we have been to before and are expected by Hassan the owner….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/Morocco 2016/S10-32.jpg

Good night!......
