Would I be on the right track to think my motor mounts may be worn? 07 xc70 150k,Its got a growl in the front wheel area.CV and bearings seem fine.I do know I have to replace both stress brackets on top of motor and trans.If it is the Motor mounts Is it pretty straight forward to change them out? Thank you.

Growl when? At idle, when accelerating, braking, making left or right turn?

At 150K they're all shot
What you're probably hearing is the engine resting on (rubbing when given gas) the subframe as that lower front mount (right side of car) has a habit of completely collapsing anytime after 100K miles!
Replace all three and check the two HYDRAULIC subframe bushings to see if they're still in their original shape
