My understanding is that the upper hoses will make a bigger difference than actually replacing the valve, but I've also read that if the valve is "lightly used" in stock applications and it might be gummed up and limited in movement and reaction.

Is there a way to clean it without damage, or just flog the car with new hoses to free it up?

Cleaned mine up with spray carb cleaner in the ports, as bench tested it and it was sticking, after the carb cleaner bench tested it and no more sticking, ran better after cleaning it up

Ok, so it's basically a simple valve on the inside, so some solvent shouldn't harm anything then? Thanks.

I was getting a boost code issue, that indicated the TCV, it was buy a new one or try to clean it, I had nothing to lose cleaning it, and it worked!, when I bench tested it afterwards it operated faultlessly, as before cleaning it sometimes would not move or moved sluggishly
