position light out, but bulb is good

I'm getting the position light failure message.
Right side lights front and rear are out, but bulbs are good.

What am I missing here?
Is there a fuse - or a common wiring harness component I should check?

The obvious first thing would be the fuses. Do the rear plate light work as they are on the same circuit. In any case, check Fuse #31 (http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/2002/2002_XC/02xc_08a.htm#pg112) in the passenger compartment fuse panel.

Reseat the bulb, if problem returns interminently, I forecast your alternator is showing signs of not providing proper charge -- failing.
