Is it possible to replace the front end links without removing the hub?
If I can replace them with just the removal of the wheels, that would be great!

End links, like sway bar end links? Wheels only, 10 minutes a side. Eight minutes to curse Volvo for using an internal torx to hold the shaft, a minute to find the 18mm (uncommon size) to hold the nut, a minute to spin it loose...

Maybe for you lucky guys outside of the rust belt.

As a suggestion, try using end links for a 2000 Chrysler Concorde/Intrepid. Same length with greasable joints with the only mod required being the enlarging of the holes in the sway bar just a wee bit (literally the next drill bit size up). The really good part about them is the rod diameter is nearly 50% larger which really sharpens up the car's turn-in. Way better option than IPDs upgraded links and are cheaper and more readily available.

Have fun,

Bill

Nah...works the same either way...

if you spend the eight minutes with your die grinder instead of cursing the use of internal torx...you can cut those things right off...and the shower of sparks is so gratifying...

The grease-able Moog Links are nice too, no modification required. See my recent post (http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showthread.php?14737-What-Did-you-do-to-your-XC-this-week&p=185779#post185779), also about removing the link nuts with an impact wrench using a pry bar to counter hold. Took the guy who helped me literally seconds to take off each nut from badly corroded front link studs.

BTW, the Chrysler endlinks I have on now do not use an internal torx but have wrench flats that I think are 15-16mm. Nice and beefy.

Cheers,

Bill

So true. :)

While I had a front wheel off to check something else I took a shot of the greaseable Moog end-link. They have flat counter-holds too, not internal Torx or Allen.
