Hello everyone!
I have a 2003 XC70 AWD with a bent drive shaft aka propeller shaft beyond repair. I searched online and it looks like only 2003 and up would work since they started with the Haldex system. Several places at the Pick and pull here have the 2001 and older models.
Would I be able to install the older model driveshaft in my car?
Thank you in advance!
Charles.

There are plenty of 2003-2007s in the junk yards

I assume these guys would be local to you? They will rebuild shafts from what I've read on the net. I know your driveshaft is junk, but shoot them a call, they might have something in stock.

I just checked Rock Auto and they have shafts for your year at a closeout price of $230. Maybe someone else can comment on the quality but the price looks good at any rate.

Cheers,

Bill

I would guess they're Volvo and may be losing money.
I don't know anyone who makes an aftermarket Volvo propshaft

They also have Dorman-branded ones for a bit over $700. Again, don't have a clue as to quality as I have never seen either in use.

Cheers,

Bill

I have used drive shaft rebuilding companies for repair of difficult to replace and obsolete drive shafts, and with good results on vehicles that were more involved and complex than Volvo drive shafts. Try http://www.erievolvo.com/Volvo-Parts/ they carry a lot of XC parts

What wrong with the propeller shaft? Most common failure is the front CV joint. Boot+grease gets destroyed by the super hot catalytic converter over time. Center bearing and rear CV is usually good.

New CV joint kit is a under $100 at Colorado Drive Shaft, amazon, or ebay. Dorman PN is 982-501. Very easy DIY rebuild.
