Could this (http://www.imakenews.com/autospies/e_article000098582.cfm) be true?  I don't even have mine yet.

I hope they do not do that. The reason I went for the xc70 was because it was NOT a full-on SUV.

Interesting and possible, but I don't think it's true.

1. The Cross Country accounts for the majority of their wagon sales.
For 2002 so far in the USA:
Cross Country = 15,683
V70 = 7,893
In fact the only car that sells better is the S60 at 30,619 on the year.

2. It was my impression that Volvo wanted to increase their sales, not just shift them from one model to another.

3. I really don't think that the majority of present owners bought the Cross Country because Volvo didn't have an SUV offering. I bought mine because it's not an SUV.

4. It was my impression that Volvo wanted to develop Cross Country as a line of vehicles and not just one product... XC50, XC70, XC90...

5. ACC2. Shows they're still thinking about the Cross Country.

I could go on but even if it is true I think it'd be cool.. we'd have limited editions http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

IF its true, I doubt highly they would try and do this in 1 year.  The 90 has not been proven yet (lots of year 1 issues could surface), they can't get them into showrooms.. so why so quickly and hastily would Volvo do it in 2003?? 2004 seems like a strech. They are very good at forecasting and can phase out the XC or just make less of them as demand drops.  The more I type.. the more I doubt this.  --Bob

In England there's a wonderful description for this kind of stuff - it's a load of cobblers http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif (and it doesn't mean anything vulgar! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif ).

clodel is typical of many XC70 buyers - they don't like SUVs. When Volvo get the pricing sorted out, expect the XC70 to sail on, at least for a few years yet...

One thing that does worry me a little is that they are reducing the price on the 2003's quite a bit. I know they're cutting options, but the last time they did this was when they "cost-reduced" the 740GLE to the 740GL.

Those two cars were not the same, believe me... http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
