Sweet car! Looks like fun...

Fun, yes!
Next thing is to refresh springs/struts/shocks.

Height is perfect right now, but new XC springs will raise it by a inch or 2 certainly. It will look strange.

Thames - any idea what horse power that bad boy is pumping out with a Stage III tune?

V70 AWD springs, stock XC struts and shocks and it will stay where it is

Where did you get those headlight covers? Those give a fresh appearance to the front end.

Eyebrows.
I have a pair of real, full size plastic headlight covers if anyone wants to buy them (they're brand new)

Hey!... how did you get the upgraded stereo in that year? And the two-color interior?
I don't think we got that in the USA, but could be corrected.

Where in Quebec are you? We go to Magog usually in the autumn.

Thanks JRL.
I checked some places. FCP shows the same item for both V70 AWD and XC70...

Do you know the exact part # that I need for this ?

I will get it for both of you

This is the chassis code for a 2004 (the last year in the US) V70AWD
You need this to order the correct springs.

Thank you very much mate.
I searched for V70 AWD and came up with some different ones, but strange thing is they list them same as the XC70 regular springs...

You have to order springs using a chassis code.
Shocks by the VIN
Go figure

Before any settling.

Thanks! So the front code is 12 and the rear is 17?
I've looked them up using FCP website and those springs also listed XC70 2003 - 2007 under "Fitment" tab. Are they actually shorter than standard XC70 coil springs?
Front p/n (8634328 or 8666289): https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo-coil-spring-v70-s60-xc70-8634328
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo-coil-spring-v70-xc70-s60-8666289

Rear p/n (8646868 or 8634340): https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo-coil-spring-v70-xc70-s60-8646868
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo-coil-spring-v70-xc70-s60-8634340

I'm still confused!

JRL

I'm not sure you know what you're doing as they would NOT say XC70
These are V70 AWD springs, NOT XC springs
An AWD sits lower than an XC
(Yes, they are a bit shorter and substantially THICKER)!
You don't buy them from FCP as I'm pretty sure they won't have them

That's what I need to know! thanks!
Do you know which place sell these springs?
The springs codes (12 and 17) should be used to look up right? Maybe I don't know what i'm doing :(

JRL
05-21-2015, 07:37 PM
That's NOT the way.
You give the chassis code and they should provide you with the correct springs.
This is best left to a Volvo dealer.
Tasca should be able to get the right springs for you at a good price

Here's what I found :

Volvo OEM part Front coil spring : 8634328
Volvo OEM part Rear coil spring : 8634340

Both for V70 AWD, not XC.

Rear springs have a right and a left!

VIDA shows that # 8634340 is a right-hand spring for spec B5, 17, 30, 40, 62 and 72. The corresponding left-hand spring called for is 8646868 for spec 17, 62, and 72. No listing for the left-hand spring for B5, 30 and 40, at least on the listing I'm looking at.

Interesting aftermarket springs such as Eibachs are not handed and, at least on my '02, there is no list empty or with driver only.

Cheers,

Bill

What has been done to the internals to get a stage 3 tune? You going to upgrade that R exhaust to an IPD or Viva 3"? I just bought a 2006 XC70 and i am trying to figure out what my first mods should be done to it, but i don't wanna be pulling an engine and upgrading rods like i have in my V70R and previous 850's... too much work if it's unnecessary for a daily driver. What turbo is on that? Nice car though, great little purchase.

Thames

Hey bill, thanks for the info, very appreciated!
It has the stock turbo, so its a custom tune (let's say 2 1/2)...

I am now in the market for V70 AWD springs. Now, we go camping a few times a year, fully loaded, with a tent trailer. Shoud I expect some tire rubbing ? I dont want this.

JRL, the pic you posted looks great. But I am wondering... you said "before any settling", so is it lower than the picture now ? When that picture was taken ?

JRL

Car is sold
That was taken within a day from install so it must have settled a bit... all springs do after a while

Thanks. That's what Im afraid.
That looks perfect in the pix, but if it drops by an inch again.. that's too much for me.
