View Full Version : 2004 XC90 brake lights on all the time after dead battery

My friend's Volvo does not get used over the winter months as they are snowbirds. Over the winter I drive it a few times to keep things charged up.

Well, they are coming back and I thought it would be a good idea to take it for another spin. Remote unlock did not do anything, turns out the battery was dead.

Got the battery partly charged and now the brake lights don't go out. Lock up the car, doors closed, every normal, except for the brake lights.

Looking around I see that some have indicated the brake light relay.

Was hoping on further guidance if this is the avenue to pursue, and how to get access to it. Apparently it sits in left rear, but the access door only partly reveals some sort of relay box.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I took the suspicious battery and put it in my V70. Starts normally, so the battery is good.

Back to the XC90 symptoms... no click when I try to start it, just silence.

Any suggestions?
