High pitched sound coming from car

The dealer said it is the fuel pump, and it is normal. I do not believe this. Any info?

Can you give us a more exact description of the noise itself and under what circumstances you can and cannot hear it?

I can hear the fuel pumps on both our XCs if the door is open or I am standing outside the car. On my 01' BMW I could hear the pump inside with the doors closed! Modern fuel pumps can be loud and they usually have a high pitched whine to them.

It sounds like a high whistling noise. I thought it was an emissions leak. The noise is constant and I can hear it with the doors closed. Thanks

Another request for more info:

When you hear this "high pitched" noise is the car moving?

If the car is moving when you hear the noise, does there seem to be any relationship between the sound and the speed of the vehicle?

Do you hear it when you are accelerating, or when you are braking? Or is it there at idle?
