The County Flags in hopefully the order in which we will pass through & maybe spend some time there, but the names have been left blank once again to test your Geography!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/P1.jpg

While from AutoRoute, here is the route we will be taking, but this time ‘Anticlockwise’ as 3 years ago via some different places we travelled in a ‘Clockwise’ direction.

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/P2.jpg

So now all that remains to be said as we prepare for the ‘Off’ is…..

‘Welcome’ to new and previous ‘Travellers in the Third Seat’ which we hope you will find comfortable in ‘Flamenco Red’ (That’s the Swedish ‘Tug’) and enjoy the tour as we haul the ‘Tin Tent’ (That’s the Caravan) across Europe.

I will try to keep the blog updated as we go, but….
I make no promises on that, as it depends on Internet availability in the places we stop at. :D:D

Stage 1 “Across a bit of Wales then a bit of England to Calais (France)”

Once again we follow the same roads to get to Eurotunnel and the trip under the English Channel to France, so after a quick check around ‘Flamenco Red’ & the ‘Tin Tent’….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S1-1.jpg

While making sure that ‘Flamenco Red’ would once again act a ‘Road Chef’ by cooking the Beef Curry that was for evening meal when we got to Calais…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S1-2.jpg

Finally on our way and as we cross the ‘Second Severn Crossing’ looking over to our left we see the ‘First Severn Crossing’ that was built to take over from the old Car Ferry.

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S1-3.jpg

While traffic was quite heavy as we went along the Motorway when we reached the M25 which has the reputation of being the ‘Biggest Car Park in the World’ within a short distance we saw how that reputation was made as we were going Anti-Clockwise around London we started to pass very heavy and at times stationary traffic going the other way.

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S1-4.jpg

It took around 4 miles to reach the end of the 4 Lanes going clockwise that were ‘congested’ which I guess was partly due to it being a Saturday afternoon.

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S1-5.jpg

Next stop was Folkestone and ‘Eurotunnel’ where we checked in for an earlier train for France and our first overnight halt in Calais at Carrefour Market which also provided a fill up of Gazole at much lower prices per litre than the outlets back in the UK….

Tomorrow we continue on to Luxembourg. :D:D

Stage 2 “Overnight in Calais then on to Luxembourg”

Once again as we made our way to the train in Folkestone (Which is in the UK), we end up in France before we get onboard as we pass through security and passport control checks, then drive to the platform for boarding.

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-1.jpg

After a trip ‘Underwater’ travelling at times at 142Kmph it was a quick but slightly ‘wobbly’ ride to the other side, but much better than being ‘On top in a Force 9 Gale’ trying to hang on to your Toupee as you step outside to just see how high the waves are!!!

After a quiet overnight at 07:50hrs we set off for Luxembourg and being Sunday except for certain types of Heavy Goods Vehicles (Frozen food being one) no others are allowed on the roads in Europe on Sunday, however we did find as we tried to stop at the ‘Aires’ closest to Calais to get some breakfast that all the parking spaces were occupied by Trucks!

While carrying on and getting into Belgium the condition of the road surfaces is rapidly becoming full of potholes that are growing!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-2.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-3.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-4.jpg

As we passed by this sign I did wonder if any of the inhabitants had taken up a specialised occupation or received some sort of training in the art of, as it was also the name of a nearby Village.

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-5.jpg

As we then managed to find a ‘Rest Area’ with a parking space I couldn’t help wonder about the sign on the rear of this Truck, as to what happens with the other hand when the left is occupied?

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-6.jpg

One of the long stretches in Belgium that is in better condition than a lot of the others!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-7.jpg

While not long after we came to the ‘Old’ Belgium – Luxembourg Border Crossing…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-8.jpg

Then just on the other side we have entered and are in…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-9.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-10.jpg

After another 40 or 50 Miles we come off the ‘TOLL FREE Motorway’ and head off along the main road to the Camping Bon Accueil, Alzingen for our next stop…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-11.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-12.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-13.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-14.jpg

Must have timed it nicely as Reception only opens at 14:00hrs for the afternoon session while we arrived at 13:55hrs but found the door open!
While the place looks the same from when we stayed here 3 or 4 years ago, the price/night has not risen while they have now installed a Wi-Fi ‘Hotspot’ in the centre of the campsite which gives everyone access so you don’t have to go and sit outside the reception office doing your updates or email!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-15.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-16.jpg

After a leisurely afternoon and a couple of small ‘tasks’ that needed to be done we settled down for a quiet evening, a decent night’s sleep then after breakfast the following morning set off to get the ‘Eurobus’ into Luxembourg City. In making our way to the Bus stop we passed this rather nice house on the main road…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-17.jpg

Then after just under 20 minutes we got off at ‘Luxembourg Royal quai 1’ while just around the corner is the ‘Hotel des Postes’ building….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-18.jpg

Making our way back down to the high wall of the city the next 4 pictures are clear parts of the view that we could see while trees blocked the rest….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-19.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-20.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-21.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-22.jpg

While looking back into the city you are confronted by a number of small streets that run away from the wall….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-23.jpg

Moving along the wall further we came to a War Memorial which commemorated both First & Second World Wars with the following inscription in 4 languages around the base of the memorial….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-24.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-25.jpg

Next stop was Luxembourg Cathedral …..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-26.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-27.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-30.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-31.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-32.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-35.jpg

A bit further along you find yourself in the ‘City Judiciaire’ area with this small model and an Key to each of the buildings presumably for people who need to attend the different courts for one reason or another……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-36.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-37.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-38.jpg

A couple of the buildings…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-39.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-40.jpg

While the view from this part of the city was rather good…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-41.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-42.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-43.jpg

With the constant take-off and landing of all sizes of aircraft at Luxembourg International Airport

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-44.jpg

We then moved back into the city with the intention of heading over to an older part with these views as we walked along….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-45.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-46.jpg

Having spoken over coffee to an English speaking resident who told us that property was expensive here, we were then not surprised when we saw this Parking Place advertised in an Estate Agents at €175/Month ! (£147 or $220)

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-47.jpg

While a little bit further along was this rather lovely little shop!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-48.jpg

For some reason that we could not establish this ‘Monument’ had something to do with the story of ‘The Pied Piper of Hammel’

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-49.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-50.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-51.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-52.jpg

Next stop was…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-53.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-54.jpg
Then back on the main road we pass this small set of fountains….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-55.jpg

As we looked down to where we wanted to get to….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-56.jpg

Bit further along the road and we find the pathway going down…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-57.jpg

With some interesting and BIG ‘Wild life’ clinging to the wall at the side of the pathway….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-58.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-59.jpg

Then we finally get to ‘Pfaffenthall’

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-60.jpg

Building work still uncovers old ruins…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-61.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-62.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-63.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-64.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-65.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-66.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-67.jpg

Good job we didn’t drive here!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-68.jpg

While this was a good spot for our ‘picnic lunch’….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-69.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-70.jpg

Then we start the climb back up to Luxembourg City….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-71.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-72.jpg

Then it was up this last section and back to the Bus Stop for the return to the campsite…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S2-73.jpg

That’s it for today as the DARK Clouds have filled the sky and that ‘Watering Can’ from up above has just been turned ‘ON’!

Next stop for tomorrow is a place called ‘Bitche’!
NOT you dear! It's the name of the town!

Stage 3 “Luxembourg to Bitche”

After a rather wet night as the rain finally stopped around 03:00hrs we were on our way by 08:15 for the short trip to Bitche, but not before we had spotted this arrival on the campsite which looked rather nice for an ‘Overland Camper’ but I never got chance to enquire which way the occupants had come as the camper was ‘Made in Australia ….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-1.jpg

Rush hour for traffic coming into Luxembourg…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-2.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-3.jpg

Next we were back on the Autobahn and into Germany….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-4.jpg

As we get near Saarbrucken we go past a very large Steel Mill in Völklingen with the Blast Furnaces……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-5.jpg

Followed we think by the Rolling Mill…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-6.jpg

Followed by the Electricity Generating Station ……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-7.jpg

While some very LARGE water pipes went along the road into the Electricity Generating Station and around to the Water Cooling Towers…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-8.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-9.jpg

Then a bit further on we passed the Pit Heads of the Coal Mine…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-10.jpg

While just after were the lock gates for the Barges on the Saar Canal…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-11.jpg

Coming into the outskirts of Saarbrucken……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-12.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-13.jpg

Then hang a right and we are back into France…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-14.jpg

Coming into Sarreguemines…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-15.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-16.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-17.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-18.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-19.jpg

Then further along the road and after a descent down a 15% hill we come into Bitche and the outline at the side of the tree on the left hand side is the Citadelle which is absolutely enormous!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-20.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-21.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-22.jpg

As we get to the far side of the village we then hang another right passing this display on the far side of the town to head up to the large carpark at the Citadelle….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-23.jpg

OK so we know we are heading in the right direction….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-24.jpg

While to give you an idea of the place here is an ariel photograph that I ‘borrowed’ from a book we got in the Tourist Office in Montreuil sur Mere as we came back from Morocco and paid them a visit…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-61.jpg

Now on the car park looking at the pathway leading up and the walls while high are over 1meter thick…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-25.jpg

The ‘Plan’ of the Citadelle….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-26.jpg

The outer gate…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-27.jpg

The view over into the town…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-28.jpg

The building on the left was only 1 story high but was made into 2 story’s by the Germans during WWII, while the ‘roadway’ behind with all the archways underneath is the only access in and out…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-29.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-30.jpg

Looking back down you can see the mechanism of the Drawbridge by the two story building that is now the Ticket Office….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-31.jpg

At the top of the ‘roadway’ although the picture is a bit ‘fuzzy’ you can see a LARGE door on the left set back which has deep axe marks in it after one battle where the Citadelle was stormed but the attack failed. The door when closed was also used to stop the enemy gaining entrance, should they get on the ‘roadway’

While a bit further up is a metal portcullis which was also lowered down….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-32.jpg

We then made our way to a small room for a film about the attack by Prussian soldiers in 1780 which was very realistic, and at the end had to follow a defined route through various tunnels into different rooms to hear more about the attack which was very interesting, however my apologies for some of the following pictures that did not turn out that clear due to very low lighting in the tunnels and rooms…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-33.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-34.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-35.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-36.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-37.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-38.jpg

Into the Blacksmiths Workshop, where they made knives, nails, and other implements including horse shoes…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-39.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-40.jpg

Carry on into the main room for the Well which held 2 large buckets of 200ltrs each, and was drawn by 2 men who pulled the buckets up from the inside of the well using the large wooden wheel…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-41.jpg

Next up was the stables where a lot of the townsfolk took shelter during the siege and the injured soldiers were brought…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-42.jpg

While a bit further on was the Bakery which made all the bread for the Citadelle which was something in the order of around 500 loaves/day….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-43.jpg

The Bread Oven….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-44.jpg

The Officer’s quarters…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-45.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-46.jpg

Then after a very enjoyable hour on the Film/Video/Audio tour it was back outside and a walk around the top….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-47.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-48.jpg

Inside the small museum….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-49.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-50.jpg

A model of the Citadelle at the time of the siege….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-51.jpg

The old church with a clock that still works today…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-52.jpg

While inside upstairs is the mechanism which I could not get rid of the balcony rails!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-53.jpg

Looking out from the walls…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-54.jpg

One of the Guns on the walls….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-55.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S3-56.jpg

ROAD TRIP!!!!!!

Looks great so far. Incredibly green. Very jealous seeing as my Mayday tree is just starting to bud out and the rhubarb is poking out and then we had 4-6 inches of snow on the ground Saturday morning.

Well you got the Snow & we got the RAIN, so me thinks that's why it so green!
I was just glad that the 'Tin Tent' didn't spring a leak for some of the stuff that came down!:D:D

Stage 4 “Bitche to Hohenstadt”

Rather nice yesterday evening as the Citadelle was lit up….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S4-1.jpg

While we were up and away this morning at 07:30hrs from our very quiet overnight stay on the carpark which also had an ‘Aires’ for RV’s/Campers however the Bitche Tourist Office confirmed we could spend the night there which was nice section for

As we past a rather interestingly decorated house in Bitche…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S4-4.jpg

We very soon got into the countryside and woods of the Alsace Region which gave us a drive through the woods and small villages some of which are in France while the others are in Germany as the region crosses the border….

Oops! I went a bit heavy on the colour adjustment on this one and couldn’t get the original back! Sorry……

Finally get to a section of road that has a sign which declares 3.5Tonne Limit and 2meters wide, while there is nowhere to turn around!
While one car didn’t trust me and got off the road, while there was plenty of room to pass, after about 0.5 of a mile we found ourselves at one of the ‘Back Gates’ into Germany, after which the road got considerably wider!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S4-26.jpg

Then a little further we are into some of the ‘Vineyard Countryside’ of Alsace

Not long after and we are back on the ‘Autobahn’ passing a new ‘Bridge’ that is under construction while further back we ran into some serious road re-surfacing works that brought 3 lanes of traffic down to one with around 3 miles of very slow moving traffic as the nearside lane was totally full of Trucks…

Spot of lunch and it was off into the village before the rain started, while we also noticed that a large number of the houses had both Solar Electricity & Water Heating panels up on the roof…

Next stop tomorrow is Sulzemoos from where we are hoping to make a day visit to Dachau…

Stage 5 “Hohenstadt to Sulzemoos (Dachau)”

After a very stormy night with very heavy rain, hailstones, Thunder & Lightening that didn’t stop until very late on we were on the road by 07:45 for the short drive to our next overnight at a Camper(RV) and Caravan Dealer who provided a parking area in Sulzemoos that you could stay at, so off we went with the intention of staying there while we went to visit the Concentration Camp at Dachau….

Widening of the Autobahn which seems to be quite a ‘feature’ over here in Germany as we see more and more of it as we pass along….

Tomorrow we continue on to Kiefersfelden…..

Stage 6 “Sulzemoos (Dachau) to Kiefersfelden”

Interestingly after leaving our ‘Overnight Halt’ and going the short distance back to the ‘Autobahn’ to continue along the A8 after a short while we are directed off by ‘TomTom’ into Munich, then through a lot of roadworks on the Inner Ring 2 before we then re-join the same A8 Autobahn, the mind boggles at times with the directions provided …. We did as we head for the next left hand bend….

The water ski buildings with shower & toilet but interestingly no fresh water or chemical waste, but just as well we filled with water and cleared out the chemical loo before we arrived…..

After a rather nice coffee and a bit of grocery shopping it was back to the campsite just as the ‘Watering Can’ in the sky was turned on yet again, but thankfully we got back reasonably dry this time, while after dinner the pressure in the Watering Can was turned up so the drops came hammering down once again….

Next stop tomorrow is in Slovenia…..

Stage 7 “Kiefersfelden to Danica Bohinj”

After once again a very wet and ‘noisy’ night from the ‘Overhead Watering Can’ we left the campsite at around 07:15hrs for the trip to Slovenia and the next campsite while having to purchase a ‘Vignette’ to travel on the Austrian Motorway as well as the cost of going through the one of the very long Tunnels which when added to 2 cups of Austrian coffee at a Motorway Cafeteria all together it came to €26.30 which made the 3 hour drive across Austria a rather expensive trip….

As we left the campsite at Kiefersfelden and got back onto the A8 Autobahn it was again very soon and we were off and going through the Austrian Border before starting a long steep ‘hill climb’ with raindrops all over the windows which sorry, did affect the pictures!

Statue of St George & the Dragon as we enter Austria…

A proper ‘Maypole’ on the outskirts of the village….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-2.jpg

As we start climbing we look back at where we came from….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-3.jpg

As we spot this Scandinavian theme in the style of the gable end wall on the house…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-4.jpg

Up we go with ‘Flamenco Red’ giving that nice ‘growl’ as we continue on….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-5.jpg

Then as we get up to the top and around the last hairpin bend we run into ‘Low Cloud’!....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-6.jpg

Coming out of the cloud and strangely back into Germany we pass by this very large ‘Schloss’ up on the hill, but we struggled to find the name as we went past…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-8.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-9.jpg

‘Cable Car’ Traffic Island….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-10.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-11.jpg

As we then turn left then right out of the village we once again cross the border and find ourselves back in Austria….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-12.jpg

Were you have to get the Vignette, and I am rather glad we are less than 3.5Tonne as above that it gets seriously expensive….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-13.jpg

With more low cloud and wet roads, all we can do is take it easy going along while being surprised at the number of drivers who travel with no lights on on their vehicles…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-14.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-15.jpg

Next up was the Tauern Tunnel at over 6km long it feels a bit eerie as you travel along inside especially I think when it is wet….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-16.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-17.jpg

While out the other side it was a bit brighter as the cloud had lifted slightly…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-18.jpg

As it got brighter and clearer further along….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-19.jpg

But that didn’t last as we soon ran into another rain storm as we spotted this next ‘Schloss’ on the hill….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-20.jpg

Not long after and having got the 2 coffees that cost €6.80 (£5.70) we approach the Slovenian Border where if you wish to travel on their Motorway/Autobahn roads you have to get another Vignette but as we are using (thankfully) none Motorway roads for a bit more scenery, then we don’t need it…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-21.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-22.jpg

As we then spend another €7 on the cost of going through the Karawanken Tunnel from Austria into Slovenia from our last experience of this I remember that the Slovenian side was in much worse road surface condition than the Austrian side while you can smell the exhaust fumes coming into your vehicle as there are no exhaust gas extractor fans in the Slovenian side roof….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-23.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-24.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-25.jpg

Finally out and into clean fresh air while the road surface must have been resurfaced, then we ‘Exit Stage Right’ before we get ‘clobbered’ by the Police for being on the Motorway without a Vignette as the camera takes your picture and fires off a ‘message’!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-26.jpg

So off we come and head into Jesenice and take the main road which is nearly as ‘rough’ as some of the side roads we travelled on in Morocco as we get bounced around as we go along!!!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-27.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-28.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-29.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-30.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-31.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-32.jpg

As we then come to the outskirts of the town of ‘Bled’ we find that the Police have closed the road through but have not put any diversion signs in place, so we leave a re-routing to ‘TomTom’ while keeping fingers crossed that it does not contemplate taking us back to some obscure place in the process…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-33.jpg

Thankfully the re-routing worked and we find ourselves coming into Bled from the other direction past the famous Church on the Island in the lake…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-34.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-35.jpg

Then going passed the Horse & Carriage with the couple in enjoying a ‘country ride’ (While we hope it doesn’t start raining on them!) and down to the junction ahead were we turn right onto the road we should have come along in the first place….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-36.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-37.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-38.jpg

30 minutes later and we arrive at our next campsite Danica Bohinj….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-39.jpg

While the following day as the ‘Sunshine’ arrived the campsite suddenly looked a lot nicer…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-40.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-41.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-43.jpg

So after breakfast we set off for a walk into the town of Danica Bohinj…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-44.jpg

Petrol Station converted into a very nice Patisserie & Bread shop….

Fire Station in place since 1884….

The church that gives us our ‘Early Morning Call’ with the bells….

Main road through the town….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-48.jpg

Looks like the Romans came this way at some point in time….

The dedication picture and writing to Ceconi’s Park who was a construction engineer and designer who was recognised for all his work and became a Count…

The view at the side of the park up the river….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-55.jpg

In front of the church whose bells ring out each day….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-56.jpg

Inside the church….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-57.jpg

One of the old farms near the town centre….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-58.jpg

Who still has their fields at the rear of the building…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-59.jpg

From here we made our way back to the ‘Tin Tent’ for a spot of lunch and then decided to walk to Bohinj Lake which after we got back slightly exhausted realised that we had covered around 22Km (13.5Miles)!

Firstly from the campsite we crossed this wooden bridge over the river…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-60.jpg

With very clear Mountain water flowing underneath….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-61.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-62.jpg

While a bit further the panorama just opened up…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-63.jpg

Then a bit further along the small roadway we see this new farmhouse….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-65.jpg

With a nice view of the mountains as we came to a bend in the river….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-66.jpg

Next along was this ‘Resting Place’ which I guess would also protect you from rain and snow…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-67.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-68.jpg

With more nice scenery….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-69.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-70.jpg

As we then come to the end of the lake and the town of ‘Ribčev Laz’ we see two of the Electric Lake Cruise Boats…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-71.jpg

Continuing along the path by the side of the lake and in front is the church in ‘Ribčev Laz’….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-72.jpg

While from the centre of the bridge across the river that starts from the lake we get this panorama……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-73.jpg

While the fish idly ‘cruising’ in the water looked quite large….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-74.jpg

Move along the lakeside and look back…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-75.jpg

While around the corner you can just see the top of Mt Triglav (The white peak on the left next to the very green tree.)…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S7-76.jpg

After that it was time to head back to the campsite and start thinking about our evening meal which thankfully was a nice steak to replace some of the used ‘energy’…..

Back on the road tomorrow

Don't hold your breath, while I am not quite up to date with the Stages, the 'Overhead Watering Can' was turned on again last night and it was fairly persistent all night, but keeping our fingers crossed for today! :)

Stage 8 “Danica Bohinj to Krk”

Leaving the campsite at Danica Bohinj this morning before 08:30hrs it was a bit difficult to leave the Shower/Toilet/Mains Hook Up keys behind as Reception doesn’t open until 18:30hrs, but we found a helpful lady in the adjacent restaurant who took them, then it was out through the town heading initially for a town called Tolmin that involved some very twisty winding road as well as considerable ‘Mountain Climbing’ with gradients of 15%+ which I think ‘Flamenco Red’ and myself enjoyed the ‘challenge’, I’m just glad we didn’t need the SNOW CHAINS!.….

Directly behind the metal pole up through the middle of this next picture is an ‘Open Barrel’ on a machine that removes all the bark from the logs of felled trees….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8-1.jpg

After which is was the start of the ‘twisty winding roads’ some of which were quite narrow….

One of the Ski Area ‘Chair Lifts’ we passed as we went over a couple of the mountains…..

While the now redundant ‘Piste Bully’ and mechanical digger sat waiting for some work…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8-9.jpg

Short break with Mt Triglav in the background….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8-11.jpg

Off we go down the other side…..

With some head scratching from the Grab Operator we just about made it around the bend…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8-16.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8-17.jpg

This was a bit steep, so I was glad the rear disc pads had been recently replaced….

Sorry we don’t know who that statue in the middle of the field is or what he did….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8-22.jpg

While this next bit was ‘ROUGH’!.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8-23.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8-26.jpg

WHOA! It took the driver 3 ‘manoeuvres’ with his trailer to negotiate the hairpin bend….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8-27.jpg

Then it got a bit better but narrower….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8-28.jpg

OK if he can get through, then so can I, just make sure you stay in the middle!...

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8-29.jpg

Our next R/Hand turn on the route was ‘Closed’ due to roadworks, so we ended up on a 17 Mile Detour which in places was ‘Hairy & Challenging’ to say the least, but ‘BRILLIANT’ just the same, as we set off a bit further down the road up and over the next mountain…..

As we then get to the place where we were going to spend tonight, but it turned out that it was closed and only catered for ‘Trucks with Beds’ also known as ‘Campers/RV’s’ so after a quick lunch we carried on….

You could soon tell you were approaching Croatia with all the Money Exchange offices offering to take your other currency for the Croatian Kuna, but as the Bank ATM’s offer a much better exchange rate, then we didn’t bother stopping…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8-56.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8-57.jpg

Next stop was getting out of Slovenia, which strangely we had our passports checked!...

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8-58.jpg

Then as we got to the Croatian (Hrvatska) Border, they were checked again and the ‘Border Agent’ then asked for Flamenco Red’s ‘Papers’ which I gave him and that left him ‘puzzled’ as he was expecting me to give him a ‘Green Card’ which I would have needed if Croatia had not been a member of the EU, but as they are now I don’t and this confused him!....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8-59.jpg

Next stop was the Motorway ‘Toll Booth’ which hopefully for our trip down to Bosnia will be the only one…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8-60.jpg

Then we get onto for us a new road as it was ‘Under construction’ the last time we were here, but now it saves the long haul through the centre of Rijeka, and then down past the industrial area near the port….

Then we exit onto the road that takes us directly to the bridge for the island of Krk, and after paying the toll to get over we are on our way again….

While we meet this ‘Machine’ that looks like it was a trial item for the War of the Worlds film but is actually used for bridge maintenance as there are cradles hanging down from each side…..

With the small sign for the Airport(Otok) of Krk

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8-69.jpg

Then a little bit further we meet this ‘Roadworks Robot’ waving the Red Flag which is good for slowing drivers down as they approach the roadworks….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8-70.jpg

A couple of miles further and we arrive at our next campsite called ‘Nijivce’ were we intend to spend the next 7 nights, so the pictures will be input tomorrow……

Stage 8A “A morning in the city of Krk”

After finding out that the nearest bicycle shop was in the city of Krk as the rear brake cable had seized up on my good lady’s bike, we decided to go and see if we could get a replacement cable but also to use the time for a look around the city as we had planned to go later in the week….

Having found a parking place and then found that the Parking Meters had been covered up, so not payment required we found the cycle shop, got the cable and off we then went for a stroll around the city which to be truthful is not that big….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8A-1.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8A-2.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8A-3.jpg

Sun dial on the harbour front which was quite accurate with the time but the temperature at 30C (86F) was a bit ‘iffy’ as we made it around 20C (68F)

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8A-4.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8A-6.jpg

As we walked along the harbour front we noticed these Caterpillars hanging by their thread from the branches, while the thread was anything up to 30ft long!
It was surprising to see the number of people who felt them as they brushed passed but didn’t have a clue what it was or where it came from!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8A-7.jpg

Even as I was eating this rather nice ‘Banana Split’ I noticed one of the Caterpillars drop straight down the back of a man in a seat on another table opposite!....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8A-8.jpg

Off again and down some of the very narrow streets which reminded us of the Kasbahs in Morocco….

Wrong colour for me, as a Liverpudlian it should have been Yellow, but that would more than likely have scared off the fish that you saw in the section below the water line….

The Front Door of the Bishop’s Residence….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8A-29.jpg

Then as we go down another narrow alleyway we go under another archway which seem to have been built to stop the house walls from falling into each other…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8A-30.jpg

At that point we decided to head back to the campsite, repair the rear brake on the bike and set off for a ride from the campsite along the coastal path towards Malinska….

From the campsite it was a short ride to the small harbour in Njivice….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8A-31.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8A-32.jpg

While it looked like this rather nice small power boat was having a bit of engine trouble with the cover open and cooling water coming out of the outlet on the port side, but strangely no noise from the engine?

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8A-33.jpg

Not very far along and we hit the ‘New Road’ which was signposted but is just being built…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8A-34.jpg

Then as we get onto the correct narrow track there are some very brightly coloured Thistles growing along the side while this one had a ‘Lodger’ in the middle…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8A-35.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8A-36.jpg

Just then the ‘Overhead Watering Can’ kicked in which was totally unexpected, so as we also had laundry out drying we turned around and headed back to the campsite and on the way spotted this colourful BIG fly on another Thistle….

Stage 8B “A morning cycle ride across country to the town of Malinska”

After a cross country cycle ride over roads, new roads & ‘forest paths’ we eventually got to the outskirts of Malinska which was really nice, very quiet and quite picturesque until the ‘Tolling Bells’ commenced while we were stood next to them on the quayside, and my ears are still ringing!!…..

With a fresh water stream flowing directly into the sea ….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8B-9.jpg

Then as we look back across to the town as we have a picnic lunch….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8B-10.jpg

We set off back to the campsite trying the ‘Coastal Route’ which didn’t work, so we once again head back on the route we came on….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8B-11.jpg

Looking at some of the fauna, flora & wildlife as we go along the ‘cycle path’….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8B-12.jpg

‘Piggyback’ Boy this must be good!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8B-13.jpg

“I say Old Chap the Pollen in here is really good what?”

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8B-14.jpg

“Sorry, I prefer to keep this one to myself thanks”

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8B-15.jpg

As we eventually pass this Mechanical Digger that is making a new Cycle/Walking pathway……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8B-16.jpg

The as we get around the headland we see two ladies on what appear to be ‘Paddle Boards’ going across the bay, as the sea water is rather cold at the moment we hope they don’t fall in!…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8B-18.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8B-19.jpg

The as we get back into Njivice and visit the local Super Market for some supplies we spot this old house alongside…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8B-20.jpg

Today has been a totally different day to what was forecast weather wise but that is nothing new! We just hope it continues tomorrow and stays Sunny!

P.s. The ladies on the ‘Paddle Boards’ made it back to dry land without falling off!

Stage 8C “A trip to Vrbnic”

After breakfast we decided to take a trip over to the town of Vrbnik for a look around as it is in one of the wine producing areas of the island of Krk!!…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8C-1.jpg

Harbour at the bottom of town, while the majority of the houses were up above…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8C-2.jpg

While as you start the climb up the roads to the top you find that they get narrower…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8C-7.jpg

Moving all your house possessions to here could be a bit challenging getting it along the roads and in through the front door…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8C-8.jpg

As we then start to see some information about different buildings…..

Old grape press outside one of the wine shops which was closed……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8C-16.jpg

While just a bit further along was this small café with tables at the rear offering a lovely view across the sea to the mainland but it to was closed…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8C-21.jpg

You can see the reference to ‘Cholera’ (Kolere) in this plaque that was above the door into the church….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8C-22.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8C-28.jpg

While we saw these fish swimming around in the harbour as the water was lovely and clear…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8C-30.jpg

Making our way back to the campsite we came to this site near the village of Gabonjin with some standing stones that we understand depict examples of an old Croatian language called ‘Glagolitic’ that was used in the 11th & 12th Centuries….

Googled ‘Old Croatian Language’ and got this……

‘Glagolitic’ (from Old Church Slavonic glagol meaning "word"), that was used side-by-side to Cyrillic in the early history of writing in Eastern Europe.

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8C-33.jpg

While each of the stones had symbols inscribed on them the best example seen was on the following picture, where you can see what the numbers from 1 to 100 were….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8C-34.jpg

While after that it was time for some grocery shopping, and some lunch as we made our way back to the campsite…..

Stage 8D “A lazy Saturday in the bay”

Seeing another nice blue sky again this morning and it being our last day here in Njivice we decided to spend the morning out on the water with the Kayak which was really nice, the hardest part was carrying the Kayak to and from the water’s edge as by the time we had finished the Sun was very hot!…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8D-1.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8D-2.jpg

You certainly get a different perspective of the size of boats when you are on the water…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8D-3.jpg

As we got back to the ‘Tin Tent’ and got everything cleaned down and put away we heard this scream from a girl walking past and then my eyes spotted this large Grasshopper/Cricket in the road, it was at least 2 inches long…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S8D-4.jpg

Now all packed up and ready for the next stage tomorrow…..

Stage 9 “Krk to Senj”

After departing from the campsite at Njivice it wasn’t long before we were heading back across the bridge that connects Krk to the mainland….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-1.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-2.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-3.jpg

With the oil storage tanks in the distance just outside Rijeka……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-4.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-5.jpg

Coming down to the ‘Toll Booth’…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-6.jpg

We notice a Green Arrow on the right hand side while a sign to the left proudly announces ‘FREE PASSAGE’ in several languages as you don’t pay to get off the island you only pay to get on to it…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-7.jpg

Then a short distance after and we are on the Coast Road which was being worked on to make improvements as it was in the habit of falling apart on our last trip…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-8.jpg

Impressions as we travelled along it were that the ‘road and mountain face works’ that have been carried out have made a vast improvement to the quality of the road and also the safety but you still get idiot drivers who scream past you in no overtaking sections, and then slam on their brakes as they come to the bend just in front of you…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-9.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-10.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-14.jpg

This was a section of the road that was being worked on and there is wire mesh coming down the rock face to stop and falling rock from hitting you as well as a complete re-surfacing of the road surface….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-15.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-16.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-21.jpg

Signpost for the city of Senj….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-22.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-23.jpg

As a bit further we go over the 45th Parallel for about the 6th or 7th time…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-24.jpg

Then it’s into ‘AutoKamp Skver’ and get set up as we were lucky to get an Sea Front pitch!....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-25.jpg

As there were so many concerned people who wandered past last time who did not know where we came from with much head scratching we have hung the ‘Home Flag’ in the rear window to help with their Geography!...

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-26.jpg

Then off we went for a walk into town…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-27.jpg

Spotted this rather old BMW single cylinder motorcycle which looked like it had a certain ‘weapon and mounting’ missing from the passenger chair!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-28.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-31.jpg

After a bit of shopping it was back to the campsite for lunch which consisted of Burek Spinach Rolls which is a filo pastry filled with Spinach and they were quite nice….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9-32.jpg

While later on as the wind and sea got up, with the dark clouds also rolling in it looks like we might be in for another ‘Overhead Watering Can’ session!

You are more than welcome, just keep those rubber boots handy as this 'Overhead Watering Can' has been getting heavy in the outpouring liquid lately and it's just started again!!! [nonono]

Stage 9A “A day in Senj”

After four years it was disappointing to find that the Internet ‘HotSpotSenj’ still didn’t connect you to the Internet even though you have got a really good connection signal all around town as well as the campsite.

When I went to find out why it turns out the person who installed it left shortly after! Maybe they were ‘pushed’ so didn’t bother with the actual Internet connection which was left as a ‘parting gift’ for the Council?....

So all the updates and any internet connection has been obtained while sat outside the campsite reception as sadly their signal is that weak you can only connect while sat outside the office. An External Antenna was not on the previous and still not on the current shopping list for this campsite…..

Meanwhile……

Remember that picture from yesterday with the very Dark Sky?
Well the ‘Overhead Watering Can’ was turned on again last night along with a very high & blustery wind that is called the ‘Bora’ with the result that we had a very ‘rough’ night as the ‘Tin Tent’ was rocked about, and this lasted till around 06:00 hrs this morning, then a couple of hours later the Sea and Sky looked like this…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9A-2.jpg

Then on our way into town we stopped to take a closer look at one of the Poppies as it was a much more vivid red colour than the other surrounding it….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9A-4.jpg

Then we get to the Supermarket and see this sign for the Parking area and cannot figure out why the symbol for a Tent was included as the parking area is covered in both Concrete & Asphalt which gave us a mental picture of some poor person trying to knock their Tent Pegs into either Concrete or Asphalt and having a near impossible job to do as well as a lot of blunt pegs!.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9A-5.jpg

Later on in the day the Sky really started to clear up and the Sea became quite calm after last night…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S9A-7.jpg

While this evening we got to see a decent Sunset…..

On the road again tomorrow on the next stage to Nin & Autocamp Peros….

Stage 10 “Senj to Zaton/Nin”

After another wet start to today when the ‘Overhead Watering Can’ was switched on at around 05:30hrs this morning along with the Thunder & Lightning that was directly overhead!
It was a case of getting packed up and ready to go in between the rain showers, and we just about made it…. :D

As we then set off through Senj and the rain puddles….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-1.jpg

Passing this church as we climb the hill out of the town…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-2.jpg

Then start to make our way along the Coast Road with the storm clouds overhead….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-3.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-4.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-5.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-6.jpg

Passing the old ‘Sentry Post’ on top of the hill, a left over from the war that went on here….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-7.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-8.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-9.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-10.jpg

While not much further along was another ‘Sentry Post’ but this had a Mobile Comms Mast and Antenna alongside….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-11.jpg

Yes those are ‘Rain Spots’ in the picture as we go through patches of the stuff….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-12.jpg

This would have been a nice view of the outlying islands on a nice day….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-13.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-14.jpg

As the Ferry makes the short crossing from Pag to the mainland and the GPS keeps telling me to ‘Turn right’ as it thinks it is on the route, but we are staying on the ‘Coast Road’…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-15.jpg

Next village further on…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-16.jpg

Followed by….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-17.jpg

Which was right on the sea front, well at least the road was…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-18.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-19.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-20.jpg

Then out of the town and back on the ‘twisty windy’ Coast Road once more, which I think is much more interesting than the inland ‘Toll Road’….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-21.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-22.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-28.jpg

Next village of…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-29.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-30.jpg

Not sure if the road had been ‘scraped’ here to be re-surfaced, but the tyres on Flamenco Red were making some strange sounds as we travelled along on it!...

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-31.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-32.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-33.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-34.jpg

Connecting bridge from the island of Pag we think to the next island of Rab….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-35.jpg

While this next picture is of the elevated ‘Toll Road’ which for a minute as we came around the corner I thought we were being directed onto by the GPS, but that was soon corrected!....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-36.jpg

Not sure if all the ‘buoys’ in the water were attached to ‘Lobster Pots’…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-37.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-38.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-39.jpg

As we then get closer to the elevated ‘Toll Road’….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-40.jpg

We make a ‘Left Turn’ as shown by the ‘Bent’ arrow on the sign post…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-41.jpg

Then go under the ‘Toll Road’ and stay on the Non Toll Road towards Nin….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-42.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-43.jpg

As we then come to the bridge which is closed when the ‘Bora’ wind comes along and makes crossing it quite dangerous….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-44.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-45.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-46.jpg

As we then spot this little church on a spit of land that goes into the sea….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-47.jpg

Remembered this place from last time, so we must be on the right road…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-48.jpg

But this large field with all the small trees in is new…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-49.jpg

We finally arrived at the campsite after a journey of nearly double the distance of what the GPS originally told us, and after getting set up, we went back to see Ana with our little ‘surprise’ which was a 3KG bag of Sugar Free Sweets. Made by a company in South Wales not far from where we live.

Ana has an allergy to sugar and used to enjoy the sugar free sweets that she could get before all the fighting started here in Croatia , Bosnia and the other places, but since then she has been unable to get any more until today so the look on her face we think says it all, Christmas and everything else came early today….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-50.jpg

Our pitch for the next 3 weeks…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-51.jpg

While this is the new section of the campsite with the Holiday Homes and swimming pool that is just being finished off….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-52.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-53.jpg

With a look back to the older part of the campsite….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10-54.jpg

While putting this together the ‘Overhead Watering Can’ has been turned on again and we can hear the Bullfrogs enjoying the rain, while the weather outlook for the next few days is not looking good!.... [nonono]

Stage 10A “Our first couple of days in Zaton/Nin”

Wednesday:

After we arrived and got everything set up and the rain started on Tuesday evening the Bora Wind then came at 02:45hrs on the Wednesday morning so it was a case of get out of bed and go and take the sun canopy and windbreak down before we found ourselves flying to the next place on this trip!

Thursday:

While it has been very overcast with a few tipples from the ‘Overhead Watering Can’ being tilted a few times we managed to get out on the bikes for a couple of hours and saw some nice improvements around the area…..

First stop was the small city of Nin which is a nice laid back place that you can really appreciate as you cross the pedestrian bridge….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-1.jpg

With this ariel picture that I copied in the Tourist Office (Forget the Arrow and Circle)…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-2.jpg

As we got over the bridge we saw that the old wall that surrounded the city was in the process of being re-built….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-3.jpg

While up in the centre is the statue of ‘Grgur Ninski’ who was a Bishop from Nin and the chancellor of the Croatian Court, while in the 10th Century he was the main fighter for the old Slavic language, the peoples language and glagolitsa in liturgy….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-4.jpg

While the small white building directly across from ‘Grgur Ninski’ is….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-5.jpg

Inside the church is extremely small….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-6.jpg

As we went passed the statue of ‘Grgur Ninski’ as so many people have done we gave his ‘Big Toe’ a good rub in the hope of better weather but so far there has been no response as it still feels like 12C! (Cold. Due to the Bora Wind)….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-7.jpg

While behind the statue is what we understand is part of the Cathedral which is the beige building and the church bell tower….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-8.jpg

Off down one of the roads….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-9.jpg

We find ourselves at…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-10.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-11.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-12.jpg

Then looking back as we make our way back to the footbridge…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-13.jpg

While on the footbridge I manage a panoramic at sea level…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-14.jpg

As the Tourist Office is just before the footbridge we call in and find one of the local items that is still produced very close by……
‘Sea Salt’…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-15.jpg

Next stop was over to Zaton Holiday Village which is very large and has a campground and apartments that you can hire…..

Restaurant complex…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-16.jpg

Shops…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-17.jpg

Then as we ride through the campground we see this rather pockmarked ‘Tin Tent’ that looks like it went through a very bad experience in a Hailstone storm but only on the front all the way up to the roof…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-18.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-19.jpg

Continuing through the very large campground…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-20.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-21.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-22.jpg

As we come to one of the sanitary blocks with the showers, hand-basins & dishwashing etc facilities in…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-23.jpg

Coming out of the Holiday Village we then continue around a small section of the coastline in Zaton and see some very nice improvements like the new concrete low wall between the gravel beach and the sea…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-24.jpg

While up around the corner is the old clothes washing facility which has been spruced up…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-25.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-26.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-27.jpg

While on our last visit 3 years ago this next section was completely open, but has now been built up with footpaths, flower beds, lights and a children’s play area …..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-28.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-29.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-30.jpg

Then we saw that the house that now says ‘Apartments’ on the front has been completed while the one to the left shows no progress but we understand that the owners live at present in the USA and have not been back to make any further progress….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-31.jpg

While this next house is my good lady’s favourite along the road as it looks really nice with a really nice view to be able to see some fantastic sunsets…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10A-32.jpg

Now Friday morning and I am sitting here listening again to the rain hitting the roof of the ‘Tin Tent’ while at the moment the ‘Bora’ wind has subsided, so not sure if the sightseeing trip we hoped to do today will take place.

Stage 10B “Continuing our time in Zaton/Nin”

Friday:

Rain totally stopped play!....

Saturday:

Finally for us the rain stopped last night, so today we decided to take a trip up to a town called Gračac to see if we could find what looked like a nice high waterfall…

Seems someone else was out early this morning looking for breakfast….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-1.jpg

While the mountain range looked like it had a layer of cotton wool spread along it….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-2.jpg

Then a short while later we were on our way passing the outskirts of Nin….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-3.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-4.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-5.jpg

Coming to this ‘Gate’ that we got through nicely.….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-6.jpg

Next up was the town of Vrsi….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-7.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-8.jpg

With this rather nice house at the ‘T’ junction.….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-9.jpg

While shortly after we start the ‘Mountain Climbing’…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-10.jpg

In the next picture you can see a grey line which is a water pipe, running from left to right……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-11.jpg

While this is the same pipe it is actually part of a Hydro Electricity facility….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-12.jpg

Then we reach Gračac…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-13.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-14.jpg

But we find out as we have a coffee that there is no waterfall here, but there are some caves which you can visit 4km up the road, so off we go…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-15.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-15A.jpg

After following the ‘sign’ from the main road we find the entrance and go into the office but are advised against taking the tour as ‘You need at least to be wearing 2 pairs of long trousers, strong walking shoes, as well as a waterproof and lined coat as inside the caves is very cold’ which was good and honest advice……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-15B.jpg

So we decided to come back suitably equipped and started to make our way out and back to the campsite until we saw the sign post at the end of the road to Knin, so we turned right instead of left.…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-15C.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-15D.jpg

Then came to the city sign…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-16.jpg

Shops…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-17.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-18.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-19.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-20.jpg

Eventually coming into one of the main roads in the town…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-21.jpg

Found the Railway Station Car Park and looking over the other side of the road we could see this very large structure on top of the hill which turned out to be Knin Castle……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-22.jpg

While here is the railway and one of the old steam engines that was built in Hungary….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-23.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-24.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-25.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-26.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-27.jpg

While around the front on the main road is on the left of the next picture part of the Railway Station then just right of centre is a large monument to all the fighting that took place in the last conflict in the region…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-28.jpg

The square in front of the station with a small water fountain….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-29.jpg

The monument…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-30.jpg

While set into the floor between the water fountain and the monument are these glass panels that describe certain things and events that happened….

This one describes the 143 Mass Graves that were discovered with 2110 bodies that were exhumed as well as 1200 individual graves that were also found….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-31.jpg

While this next picture of the glass panel tells about different ‘operations’ that were carried out by the armed forces at different places….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-32.jpg

Next was a visit to the very large Knin Castle…..
So after coming out of the Railway Station car park and following the signs we found our way to the next place had a picnic lunch, and then drove up via this road to the castle….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-33.jpg

While I then went off to see if we could go in and how much it was going to cost…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-34.jpg

Found it was ‘Open’ so paid the entrance fee and got to the ‘Castle Plan’ and the place is HUMONGOUS!....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-35.jpg

Then as we get into the grounds we see this wedding party having their album pictures taken….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-36.jpg

Next stop was the water well…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-37.jpg

Then looking over the wall we see the entrance….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-38.jpg

While looking through any of the ‘Windows in the walls’ we saw that all of them are pointing down and can be used to fire arrows or pour boiling liquid through the bigger ones onto the enemy below…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-39.jpg

Next was a small Barracks building which we think might have been for officers which has been turned into a Gallery with a modern art and sculpture exhibition….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-40.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-41.jpg

While outside and in various places around the castle are Poppies while this one was strange with the cross in the middle…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-42.jpg

Then as we climb higher inside the castle…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-43.jpg

Then look over the outer wall, we spot the waterfall that we thought was in or near Gračac, so I zoomed in and got this picture…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-44.jpg

While it was this far away! (It’s inside the RED circle)....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-45.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-46.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-47.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-48.jpg

As we walk around and look over the walls to the lower sections we spot the Bride and Groom posing for some more pictures….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-49.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-50.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-51.jpg

Then we get to this building which was formally another Barracks but only the shutters on the windows were open to be able to see the exhibits on the ground floor, all the other doors were closed and locked which was a bit disappointing….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-52.jpg

So looking through the windows with the camera against the glass produced these pictures…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-53.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-54.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-55.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-56.jpg

Then a panoramic from ‘Over the wall’ of the town and the wide ‘brown’ line going through are the railway tracks…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-57.jpg

Making my way then over to what was identified as the ‘Museum’ a wagging finger on the other side of the door from a human being tells me ‘No Entry’ so I turned around and made my way back to the centre….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-58.jpg

Where we once again see the Bride & Groom….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-59.jpg

Then this rather strange sculpture…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-60.jpg

Castle visit over, we decide to get back on the road after also spotting a Lidl Supermarket on the other side of town from the castle walls, I found it on the GPS so off we went as it was in the direction of the waterfall…..

Pass Lidl and continue along the road when we see the sign for the waterfall so off we go down this rather narrow lane….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-61.jpg

Then we get there……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-62.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-63.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-64.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-65.jpg

If I had brought a bottle of ‘Shower Gel’ it would have been very easy to indulge in a ‘Cold Wash Down’ using just the spray that was coming across the bridge……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-66.jpg

As I was coming away I spotted a little creature on the ground while my good lady spotted me!.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-67.jpg

While this is what I spotted and I thought the back of the insect was fascinating with all the lines while underneath were a pair of wings as it then opened up it’s back and took off….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-68.jpg

Then it was back up the narrow lane…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-69.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-70.jpg

A quick wave to this guy in the town centre and we were on our way back to Zaton but by a different route…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-71.jpg

As we came to a place that we intended to visit from the next campsite we have planned, while not realising this would be on our return route to where we are currently staying, if you follow me?.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-72.jpg

As we pull into the car park and start the short walk to the Roman Amphitheatre, I am accosted by this little blue butterfly that appears to want to land on my feet, but finally lands on the ground and stays still long enough….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-73.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-74.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-75.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-76.jpg

Then as we make our way back we see this excavation of part of a wall in the Roman Settlement….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-77.jpg

While out at the front is this water well….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-78.jpg

Which still has water in the bottom….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-79.jpg

Further along just as we hit a ‘bump’ in the road my good lady presses the button on the camera so we end up with ‘The Leaning Water Tower of Croatia’!...

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-80.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-81.jpg

Home time for the sheep…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-82.jpg

Then as we finally get back to the campsite, the cotton wool clouds have lifted from the mountain range and we can now see the patches of SNOW!....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10B-83.jpg

It’s been a long day but an enjoyable one…..

Sunday:

Sunshine came back with some wind but thankfully not the ‘Bora’ so it was time for a bit of washing then after that we took the bikes and went for ‘Sunday Lunch’…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10C-1.jpg

With a pair of clean plates, an empty glass and a bill for 170HRK (£17.80) ($30) we took it easy on the trip back to the campsite and being ‘Full of dinner’ had a really nice lazy ‘zzzzzzz’ afternoon! :D

Boy it was nice to relax….. [thumbup]

Stage 10C “Continuing our time in Zaton/Nin”

Monday:

Woke up to a glorious morning with a clear blue sky and a sun that was warming the ‘Tin Tent’ up as we opened the blinds so after breakfast we decided to get the next Bus into Zadar….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-1.jpg

As we arrive and get off then make our way over to the Old Town we see some of the fishing boats still in port after the bad weather so waiting for the sea to settle down again before they once again set off…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-2.jpg

Then it was into the streets and narrow alleyways of the Old Town….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-3.jpg

As we came to the outdoor market which was mainly Fruit, Vegetables & Flowers….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-4.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-5.jpg

Turn right and we see the Church Tower which today was open, allowing you to go up the 180 steps after paying the 20Kuna fee for a nice view over the city….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-6.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-7.jpg

Off we go up the first set of rather well-worn steps….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-8.jpg

Reaching the first level we find a drawing and description of the Bell Tower….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-9.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-10.jpg

Then on up to the second and third levels via the circular concrete staircase…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-11.jpg

Where we get into the part with ‘The Bells’ which I am rather glad I timed it so they didn’t start ‘Boinging’ as I hadn’t got my earplugs!.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-12.jpg

From that level the staircase became very narrow but hanging over the edge for the next picture you got a clear view of all the Bells…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-13.jpg

The we got through the small door and out onto the balustrade at the top with a very nice view to be had…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-14.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-15.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-16.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-17.jpg

While my good lady can be seen as the little ‘spot’ as she sat on the steps just off the centre in the next picture…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-18.jpg

Back down and time for an Ice Cream as we see these rather exotic ‘Ice Cream Displays’ in the café…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-19.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-20.jpg

Moving off along another street we see offerings of Lace while the ladies sit at the side and make other pieces which are then put alongside the others….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-21.jpg

Another of the churches in the old town but all of them requested ‘No Entry’ when wearing shorts, and ‘No Pictures’ so we stayed out although not all the tourists did…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-22.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-23.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-24.jpg

Some of the items left behind by the Romans….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-25.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-26.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-27.jpg

A bit further on and we came to this small square with 5 Water Wells in that were all permanently closed off so you could not see into the well…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-28.jpg

As we stopped for a coffee in a nearby café, going inside to use their facilities and answer a call of nature I spotted this picture on the wall that showed the wells in use and the café owner allowed me to take ‘a picture of a picture’….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-29.jpg

While it was easy to see that the Romans were also in this area….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-30.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-31.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-32.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-33.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-34.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-35.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-36.jpg

We then made our way to the sea front…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-37.jpg

As we followed a number of people walking along the sea front/promenade we could hear the ‘Sea Organ’ being played by the wave movement, but to be honest with the size of the Video File that I recorded it is easier if you Google ‘Zadar Sea Organ’ and play & listen to a video on U-Tube….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-38.jpg

Then a bit further at the entrance to the harbour we get to the ‘Greeting to the Sun’ which consists of three hundred multi-layer glass panels set on the same level as the quay paving, in the form of a circle having a diameter of 22 meters. Beneath the conducting glass panels are photovoltaic solar modules providing symbolic communication with nature for the purpose of communicating – by sound in case of the Sea Organ, and by light in this case.

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-39.jpg

While around the outside rim of the ‘Greeting to the Sun’ are a number of GPS Co-ordinates but when I tried putting a couple of them into Google Earth, the first one came up as a spot in the ocean, while the second was in the middle of a field near the town of Ourique in Portugal with not a building in sight near either of the sets of co-ordinates…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-40.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-41.jpg

Making our way then past the cruise ship we pass this fishing boat….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-42.jpg

As the crew carry out repairs to the fishing net on the stern…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-43.jpg

We then see this rather nice but no doubt very expensive powerboat while you can take the rather less expensive little ‘Ferry’ from one side to the other….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-44.jpg

Back through a couple more streets for a bit of lunch and then we make our way through another of the Gates in the town wall….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-45.jpg

As we then start to make our way passed these apartments to find the Bus Station for the journey back to Zaton/Nin….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-46.jpg

Turning left and along another street we spot what is probably the largest Window Box we have ever seen with a glorious colour display of flowers hanging down……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-47.jpg

Finally get to the Bus Station and wait at Bay 28 for the bus and the trip back as a group of students suddenly step in front to wait for the bus, but a quick word left the ‘leader and friends’ backing off and waiting until we had got on an paid for our tickets, some people seem to forget their manners these days!…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-48.jpg

Then we are off on our way back…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-49.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10D-50.jpg

Which by the time we got back left us with a bit of time for some sunshine before we started to prepare our evening meal…..

Tuesday:

Well the sunshine has finally arrived while today was around 26C (78.8F) there was very little wind which eventually died out so we went for a trip out in the bay on the Kayak….

Setting off and looking through the water is seems like you are paddling over a flooded field even though it is the sea bed….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10E-1.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10E-2.jpg

Then as we get into a small harbour we see these upright shells on the sea bed…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10E-3.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10E-4.jpg

As we then see that they are Clams, and left them alone to get bigger…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10E-5.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10E-6.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10E-7.jpg

As we then came out of the small harbour and went to a marker that was in the sea about 100 yards away from a quayside where we saw a small clump of Mussels attached to pole as it came out of the water….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10E-8.jpg

While on the concrete blocks that were just under the water keeping the marker upright we saw small Oysters….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10E-9.jpg

After a short run along the coast we turned around to make our way back and got a nice view of the mountains and the large holiday park complex that is quite close to our campsite…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10E-10.jpg

As we continued to make our way back to the small quayside which is the small white rectangle just above centre in the next picture, and managed to collect some Mussels from the opposite side of the Quay which will be a nice starter this evening….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10E-11.jpg

Sadly another nice day ‘bites the dust’ as we watch the Sunset!.....

Another nice batch of pictures. The city shots are interesting with blocks of buildings with the courtyards. The kayaking certainly does give an interesting view of the shore. Is the camera waterproof or are we confident of no tip overs? Camped on the ocean again to get such a nice sunset shot?

Waterproof camera, that for some reason got a coating on the lens as I put it under yesterday to photograph the Clams, but not sure were the coating came from unless it was son the sea as I put it in....

Wednesday:

A nice slow day in very warm sunshine….

Getting ready to set off for a bike ride this morning I saw a small green spider on one of my shoes outside and having never seen a spider of this colour before I grabbed the camera but before I could get a picture the darn thing jumped off and landed in the grass, however from the small black body I hope you can make out the rest….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-1.jpg

As we set off around the village….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-2.jpg

We came to some guys cutting a trench across the road but typically no diversion signs were to be found so we were left trying different roads to get round as we could not even get over the trench, while one of the ‘roads’ led us to this disused water pump & covered well….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-3.jpg

Going along a bit further we hear this bird singing away quite loudly and having spotted it at the top of the tree we could see that it was not the normal brown colour but had a yellow/gold front but still not sure what it was…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-4.jpg

The view across the bay from a place called Ninska Laguna….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-5.jpg

While down on the beach at Ninska Laguna we get this view across the shallow and very warm water of the bay….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-6.jpg

Then making our way back to the main road and the campsite we pass this rather nice house and its small flower garden outside….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-7.jpg

While turning a corner we see this snake in the road that was at least 3ft (1 meter) long….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-8.jpg

After that it was time to get back for lunch and a totally lazy afternoon as the temperature climbed even higher….

Thursday:

06:00 Sunrise over the campsite

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-9.jpg

Then after breakfast we took off for a short trip around some of the roads around the spit of land we are on calling into a couple of the villages on the way around, first job was to get over the bridge which used to be a ferry…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-10.jpg

As we come to our first village called…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-11.jpg

Which is very nice, then we called into the Tourist Information Office and asked about campsites in the area, we were referred to the ‘Big Square’ in Zadar as they had no information!
We were shocked as there is one campsite around half a mile from the office and another one around 1.5 miles down the main road on the way back to Zaton/Nin!....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-12.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-13.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-14.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-15.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-16.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-17.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-18.jpg

While the next stop was a small place called Privlaka where the centre was a small road that went round in a small circle with not enough room to park on, so we parked by the Church which was out of the village and walked back in then had a coffee while overlooking the harbour…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-19.jpg

Then set off for a short walk around the harbour going down the short roadway, past the fishing nets that were drying out and the outside BBQ…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-20.jpg

As the small harbour opened up to the view…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-21.jpg

We spotted this metal plate…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-22.jpg

On this vessel….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-23.jpg

While crawling along the sea wall by the side of the vessel was….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-24.jpg

While on the other side of the Italian built vessel was this sad looking boat….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-25.jpg

Then as we walk out on a wooden pontoon we spot some ‘Overhead/Layered Mooring’ as we think the harbour was a bit short of space…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-26.jpg

Looking back from the pontoon to the village…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-27.jpg

Making our way back to the Church & ‘Flamenco Red’ we see these two small houses with a wall that looked like it had been built in stages…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-28.jpg

While a bit further on as we go along the main road we see this rather strange metal pole with one large and two small spars along with a white ships light on top which we think was from a ship and used for lifting loads on or off the boat as there were pulleys and cables attached but never seen anything like it….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10F-29.jpg

Then it was back to the campsite for lunch once again and a lazy afternoon as the temperature climbed to the 30C (86F) and no wind which made it feel hotter!...

Stage 10G “Continuing our time in Zaton/Nin”

Friday:

Totally lazy, did exactly nothing….

Saturday: Totally different matter…..

We set off on a bike ride on the other side of Nin and headed off to Vrsi Zukve and on the way went into…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-1.jpg

With a plan of the saltworks just inside the entrance….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-2.jpg

Then next to it were some of the salt trucks and one of the railway engines….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-3.jpg

While inside the museum which was free to enter we started to work our way around the exhibits….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-6.jpg

With a couple more of the salt wagons in better condition than those outside that had some examples of some of the products for sale in the museum….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-7.jpg

The ‘Human Salt Train’ before they got their first diesel locomotive….

72% Cocoa Chocolate that has 1% of ‘Flower of Salt’ mixed into it while the ‘Flower of Salt’ also contains other minerals such as magnesium, calcium & potassium and ‘YES’ it gives the chocolate a strange but quite nice flavour in which you can just taste the salt…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-17.jpg

Unfortunately we could not complete the visit by going on the tour of the salt pans as Saturday is reserved for groups, but we intend to go back on Monday and do that part as it is open to individuals.….

While having said that the 'Salt Producing Season' is only 3 months long, July, August & September thanks to the intense heat of the Sun.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-18.jpg

Next stop was Vrsi Zukve, and having collected 2 ice creams from the supermarket just out of the picture, we took a seat behind the wooden hut that is to the right of the old tractor, and listened to the music of Dire Straits, who were belting out with the help of the owner and his BIG Speakers, the track called ‘Money for Nothing’ as we also contemplated having a dance on the quayside! ….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-19.jpg

The view from our seat as we listened to the music....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-20.jpg

Back on the bikes and along the promenade we go with some rather nice houses along the front.…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-22.jpg

Only got the first part completed but already with a price tag of over €200,000 and still needs a coat of paint on the outside….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-23.jpg

As we turned around and started to make our way back we then spotted this building that is behind the Tourist Office that looks as though an explosion occurred insde….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-24.jpg

While a bit further along and around the corner was this Sun Room on top of another room in the villa which I suppose because of its location gave guests a superb view over the ocean!….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-25.jpg

This property on the corner was up for sale with an email address and telephone number in Germany to call if you were interested, but seemed to have been unoccupied for quite some time, while the property was a striking colour!…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-26.jpg

Meanwhile back at the campsite having really enjoyed the dried Figs in Morocco it came as a bit of a surprise to also find here dried Figs, but these have also been sugar coated and they are really very moorish …..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-27.jpg

Bit of lunch and then a cycle ride to the nearby bay where the sea is very shallow so you can walk out a long way while the seawater is quite warm, although you do walk into the odd cold spot which stops you in your tracks for a minute, but it’s where you find some interesting little creatures…..

Like this little crab that can move much faster than a Footballer taking a Penalty!....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-28.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-29.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-31.jpg

Then we see this Whelk making its way along the seabed…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-32.jpg

While a bit further along are 2 very small Clams opened up for the incoming tide…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-33.jpg

Not quite like lying back reading the paper in the Dead Sea, but at least is was a nice and warm spot……

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-34.jpg

While I understand it’s called a ‘Sea Cucumber’ that is all I know in this case…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-35.jpg

This ‘shell’ looked BIG as it lay on the bottom, and then I got it out of the water and saw…..

Not sure if it was a bit of ‘Seabed Hanky Panky’ or whether the BIG fella was trying to get at the little fella for some reason but they were soon parted….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-36.jpg

While this was the BIG fella….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-37.jpg

As it made a ‘beeline’ for my finger!....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-38.jpg

Then I turned the shell and it shot back inside….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-39.jpg

Before coming out again, at which point I put it back down on a rock on the seabed before making my way back to my bike for the trip back to the campsite…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-40.jpg

As I then passed this Steyr Tractor, which seemed to be in the wrong location next to the sea having just come home from ploughing a nearby field…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10G-41.jpg

Bit of a strange day in all I think!...

Stage 10H “Continuing our time in Zaton/Nin”

Sunday:

Except for a bike ride along with a dip in the really warm water of the small bay then a trip to the Quayside to collect a few Oysters that when trying to open them I managed to end up with a rather deep cut in my little finger when the knife slipped, it was an uneventful day really, and the Oysters that I did get open were very nice…

A few of the Oysters…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10H-1.jpg

Monday:

While it was a special day in just Nin today with the church by the Bell Tower packed to overflowing listening to the service and a few stalls set up outside the village selling lots of chidren’s toys we went back to the Solana Nin Salt Museum for the 11:00 ‘Visitor Tour’ which was basically a walk along a pathway that took all of 15 minutes while being told of the history and what still comes out of the salt works ….

We first of all understood that the mound of salt in the next picture was for winter road use, but that was changed to household salt that was waiting to be ‘processed’ and made ready for sale….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10H-2.jpg

Then main point of interest on the salt pans was this Roman Floodgate made of very large stones and is around 1500 years old…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10H-3.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10H-4.jpg

While the ‘Water Gate’ which would have been made of wood slid up and down the slots in the next picture to allow the salt water into the salt pans…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10H-5.jpg

The seawater entered via the large square hole that you can see in the next picture while walls either side held the seawater from going directly into the flats.
Interestingly the ‘Green’ plants growing around the ‘Roam Water Gate’ are a bit like very thin Asparagus, and while they are edible without cooking there is a salty but not unpleasant taste to it, and we believe it is sold in shops in France at around €10 for 100G!.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10H-6.jpg

Tuesday:

After a night of at times what sounded like heavy rain, the sky this morning looked ‘promising’ so after breakfast we loaded up ‘Flamenco Red’ with the Kayak and set off to the other side of Nin and a larger bay that was not as shallow as the one closer to the campsite for a trip along the shoreline .

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10H-7.jpg

As we pass the old now disused brick & tile works.….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10H-8.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10H-9.jpg

Then we find ‘Mussel Heaven’ as we pass but quickly make a Full Speed Astern as we spot a Mooring Buoy that was ‘Mussel Bound’ in fact there were 4 of them all in a line but this one was the lowest in the water due to the sheer weight of Mussels clinging onto it!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10H-10.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10H-11.jpg

Even the end rope was totally covered with them, of which a large number ended up in the back of the Kayak as my 1st course ‘starter’ for dinner this evening and I must say that they were very nice….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10H-12.jpg

Let’s see what tomorrow brings, but I know we have to go grocery shopping!

Someone's wife is jealous of you and your mussel harvest.

Oops!

Sorry ssicarman.

You could always offer your good lady a chance to come over with her swimming costume and go 'Mussel Hunting' before you find that your 'Dinner is in the Dog' and she has gone for a night out with the girls! :D:D

But I must admit that the BIG Mussels were really tasty!

Stage 10I “Continuing our time in Zaton/Nin”

Thursday:

Woke to a nice morning after a ‘rough’ night with a ‘problem’ tooth so decided after call to Dentist in the UK and making appointment for when we get home, to head off to Tribunj for a look around…

As we arrived the dark clouds started gathering but we took a chance and headed off for the short walk back into the centre after parking up walking along the road at the side of the Marina….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-1.jpg

As we pass this LARGE power cruiser having some extensive patching up work done on it for the forthcoming season ….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-2.jpg

Then passing a rather heavily decorated restaurant that looked a bit dark inside to be able to see your food!....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-3.jpg

With this rather nice floral display at the end of the harbour….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-4.jpg

As we then after a bit of lunch pass this next gaily decorated restaurant….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-5.jpg

To get onto the island that forms one side of the harbour, you have to go over this small bridge which has a Roman look about it as no boats can get underneath to enter the harbour, they all have to go around the front.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-6.jpg

While on the other side of the bridge is this small vessel with the term Tempus Fugit on top of the small ‘Cuddy’, while opposite are the ‘Boats for hire’ but more of them later…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-7.jpg

‘El Buro’ and the old Fishing Vessel….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-8.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-9.jpg

While on the open sea side of the harbour are the other Fishing Vessels who must have had a warning about imminent bad weather as they were all in port…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-10.jpg

Meanwhile the one item that got under the Bridge and appeared on the left was this sea going Kayak complete with a Rudder…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-11.jpg

As we then turned around to the view of the Church while just around the corner was the Ice Cream shop….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-12.jpg

So off we go to make our way to the other side over the bridge….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-13.jpg

Following the road in an anticlockwise direction….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-14.jpg

We then find ourselves in front of the ‘Boats for Hire’ and a day will set you back from 01 June till 30 September €300/Day (£243 or $366) while the advert did not say if that price included the Fuel for the engine which at 140HP or 215HP would no doubt be a thirsty beast on a full throttle!.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-15.jpg

While just along the quayside was this nifty little vehicle that you expect to see a BIG Key stuck on the back to wind it up!.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-16.jpg

Getting back to ‘Flamenco Red’ just as the ‘Overhead Watering Can’ was opened up we set off for a place called ‘Murter’ which came recommended by the Tourist Office in Tribunj and was not much of a detour on our way back to Zaton/Nin.

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-17.jpg

While first we have to negotiate a place called Tisno and cross a bridge between the two islands, which was OK….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-18.jpg

Then as we got into Murter we came to the roadworks which was a bit ‘problematic’ as the drivers coming towards you weren’t sure who had right of way even though the road was partially blocked on our side!...

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-19.jpg

Having reached the end of the road we turned around and made our way to a place called ‘Betina’ but as the rain started to come down heavier we thought it best to stay dry and keep after a quick picture make our way back to Zaton/Nin…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-20.jpg

Then making our way back to Tisno, we get this view across the sea between the islands….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-21.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-22.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-23.jpg

Finally get back to the campsite to find that a Motorhome that has a Russian registration plate on it is back in the camp having not moved from the pitch it was on for 2 YEARS it was driven off 4 days ago we understand at the request of the owner for an ‘Annual Service’.
When I heard before it went that it had been there for 2 years I looked at the brakes, and the discs on all 4 wheels were totally rusty, and looked as though they would not work!
Seeing it as we got back you immediately saw that it had been washed and cleaned up on the outside of the bodywork while all four Discs and Disc Pads had been replaced. Rather glad as it is a Mercedes that I was not paying the bill for that lot!....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-24.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10I-25.jpg

Interestingly no rain had been seen here while we were away, so will have to see what happens tomorrow….

Stage 10J “Continuing our time in Zaton/Nin”

Friday:

Lazy day with a visit to the Butcher & Breadshop by bike, while a trip to the small Bay was not so good as the wind had risen making the Sea rather cold even to go in for a paddle.

However a bit later we had a couple of ‘visitors’ to the ‘Tin Tent’…

Firstly a rather nice Green coloured Cricket…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10J-1.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10J-2.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10J-3.jpg

With this Caterpillar making its way along the wall of the tyre….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10J-4.jpg

Saturday:

Started off today rather windy as the ‘Bora’ wind rises but thankfully not too strong, so we decide to try a ride on the bikes and set off towards Vrsi, but end up in Vrsi – Mulo….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10J-5.jpg

However having looked and failed to find somewhere to get some lunch we start to head back and see this house that reminds us of a film but cannot remember the name, especially with the conical roof sections.....

While coming back on a slightly different route we see all these small shells either up a pole that was over 1 meter high or on long strands of grass, possibly due to high water levels from the sea or rain….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S10J-9.jpg

Then as we finally get back to the bay on the far side of Nin we see all these ‘Kite Surfers’ having a great time on the sea.…

Having come to the end of our time here in Zaton/Nin we are back on the road tomorrow to a new place for us called ‘Tisno’ which is further South, while hopefully the sunshine will continue, but not sure about the wind….

Stage 11 “Zaton/Nin to Tisno”

Sunday:

WOW! This must be the shortest stage of this trip as we have only been on the road for about 1.5 Hours and we have arrived at the next destination, which is Camping Dalmacija….

To the left is one of the National Parks, while we make a right turn towards Tisno…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11-1.jpg

Then a short while after we enter the little town…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11-2.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11-3.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11-4.jpg

While the GPS system (TomTom) decides that we will head through the town and not go around by the better and less troublesome route, so we find ourselves heading off down the narrow road while we initially ended up on the Quayside and had to make a 180 Degree turn without falling in the water!!…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11-5.jpg

As we then get to what we think is the campsite ‘Entrance’ it is the wrong one, and we have to head off left and then take a ‘Pisted Road’ for about ¾ of a mile, just like Morocco, so nothing new there, to get to the campsite called ‘Dalmacija’ which has the wrong directions in the campsite guide…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11-6.jpg

Then after seeing the lady on reception we finally get sorted out with a pitch and get set up between the trees…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11-7.jpg

Now for some ‘Sunshine’ and a 7 Nights of peace and quiet, as we learn that all the ‘Hotspots’ of which there are 5 around the campsite have not been connected to the Internet by the company who have been commissioned to do the job, and they will not commit to a date as to when they will complete the job, so Internet access can only be had in the immediate vicinity of Reception, and the speed is exceedingly slow, when you get connected!……

Stage 11A “Our time in Tisno”

Monday:

After a lazy ‘Sunday’ as we took our time getting set up and sorted out we set off to go back into ‘Tisno’ this morning using ‘Pedal Power’ to get there….

While going for a shower this morning produced this small creature in the spotlessly clean facilities…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11A-1.jpg

While it didn’t take long to get into ‘Tisno’ it was nice cycling along the waterfront taking in the view without pedalling over the edge!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11A-2.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11A-3.jpg

As we then see the reminder of a bygone age of items from Olive Oil production, which still happens in some areas….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11A-4.jpg

With the town’s war memorial up ahead.…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11A-5.jpg

Then tied up alongside one of the numerous wharfs is the infamous ‘Yellow Submarine’!…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11A-6.jpg

While a little bit further around we get this nice landscape picture…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11A-7.jpg

Outside one of the small waterfront houses we see this old brightly painted cart….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11A-8.jpg

A closer look at the ‘dark square’ in front of the cart shows it to be ‘Runner Beans drying out in the sunshine, while the old lady in the house is sorting other seeds in the garage….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11A-9.jpg

As we then set off on a walking/cycle trail around the coast to the next town….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11A-10.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11A-11.jpg

As we get to the end of the trail we find ourselves in ‘Jezera’….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11A-12.jpg

While the first stop as it’s getting ‘HOT’ is…..
Where we see that the cost of Car Parking is at 9 Kuna/Hour (£1. $1.50) more expensive than an Ice Cream, and more expensive than parking in ‘Tisno’ which is 7 Kuna/Hour!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11A-13.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11A-14.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11A-15.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11A-16.jpg

As we spot this pair of Cormorants waiting for lunch to swim in….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11A-17.jpg

Then as we get back to the start of the walking/cycle trail we see this sign as the area with its crystal clear waters is good for diving and underwater exploration with all sorts of sealife being seen as you swim along….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11A-18.jpg

Finally got back to the campsite which was a struggle in places thanks to the ‘uphill’ sections on the bike, even when making use of those ‘BIG Cogs’ on the back wheel and the ‘small Cog’ at the pedals !

Stage 11B “Our time in Tisno”

Tuesday:

Surprise day really as the sea was nice and calm, so off we went on the Kayak and within 1 hour the wind had risen along with the waves, so it was a quick exit back onshore then a bit of fishing in which I have to admit that my good lady caught more than I did and that was off a small quay.

Wednesday:

Going up to the reception today to check out a couple of things I spotted this large and very gaily coloured butterfly going in and out of the door at reception, but could not get a picture in flight to show the colour of its wings on the inside, as they were very vivid and full of different colours….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11B-1.jpg

Set off for the nearest large Supermarket in ‘Flamenco Red’ while the Kayak was still loaded up, and from the stares from some people we went by we don’t think they had seen a Kayak on top of a car as then could not take their eyes off as we passed by!…..

Shopping over, and it was time for lunch (This is a real R&R time for us, so we are making the most of it, trust me!) then we went down for a bit more fishing as the water and wind had risen again, and while catching a couple of ‘tiddlers’ I noticed some quite large Oysters on the rocks that made up the wall of the quay that we were on.
Managed to get a couple off and without trying to take off my little finger again I got them open and they were delicious, straight from the sea, sadly no lemon but no fresher than that and slightly salty! YUM!

Part of the seafront along the campsite….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11B-2.jpg

While after dinner it was nice to take a stroll and watch the sunset here…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11B-3.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11B-4.jpg

While the wind had dropped and the sea became calm again so you could easily see those ‘Spiky’ little Sea Urchins that if they get into your feet then as well as ‘OUCH!’ it’s a trip to the Hospital to get them removed!.…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11B-5.jpg

Then as we had a look around the lower section of the campsite we spot this rather old ‘Slide Out’ trailer which must have presented a few problems to get in place considering the terraced levels of the campsite….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11B-6.jpg

Then back in the sea as we move along the promenade we see a lot of the Sea Urchins on the bottom but they all had small stones resting on the spines…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11B-7.jpg

While I nearly stepped on this little fella in the fading light!….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11B-8.jpg

Then I spotted this Oyster, Sea Urchins and what looked like a couple of Mussels in a little cluster on a large rock at the bottom of the wall ….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11B-9.jpg

As the sun dropped off the edge of our world for the night….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11B-10.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11B-11.jpg

While there endeth another nice day here…..

Stage 11C “Our time in Tisno”

Thursday:

Another HOT day in Tisno today as the Bora wind had virtually stopped so we set off on the bikes for a ride to have a look on the other side of the water.
While this was the view as we got there, the campsite was huge and while quite nice we found it was rather expensive so decided to head into Tisno and have a look around the town ….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11C-1.jpg

While there is the main road through Tisno there is really only one back street as the others are small narrow roads leading to the houses which are all nearly apartments for rent….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11C-2.jpg

Then at the end of the back road is this tree in full bloom….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11C-3.jpg

As we then get onto the quay in Tisno we see this old sailing ship which was a nice change from all the power boats that go hammering up and down the channel….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11C-4.jpg

As we continue along the coastal path once again to Jezera coming to the end we see the Policija boat heading into the port who then spent some time checking out all the moored craft before going around to the fuel station to get filled up.…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11C-5.jpg

Way at the back of the town is the church, so we set off to see what it looked like, however when we got there we found it was all locked up so could not see inside….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11C-6.jpg

While taking a different road back to the port along the side are these plants with very large heads which turn out to be Artichokes but the only person who likes them seemingly now lives in Australia!…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11C-7.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11C-8.jpg

While a little bit further along we see ‘Little & Large’ waiting patiently for some haulage business to happen ….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11C-9.jpg

Next stop was a Café/Bar for some lunch with an old wicker lobster pot hung over the bar….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11C-10.jpg

While outside was this very large clay boot that was made by the owners mother to decorate the place, and it certainly did that…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11C-12.jpg

Then after a very large Salad starter followed by a Mixed Grill and 0.5L of Beer and a small glass of Schnapps it was time to ‘Get on our Bikes’ & peddle back to the campsite which was a struggle and required the rest of the day to recover…..

I hope your good lady will not be even more hungry & jealous after she sees the next update which I am just putting together.
If she is then maybe it is going to cost you a couple of plane tickets with swimming fins, snorkel & mask in the suitcase! [thumbup] :D:D

Stage 11D “Our time in Tisno”

Friday: 6th June “A very special day”

Turning on the TV this morning as we had breakfast we found that nearly all the broadcasts were coming from Normandy (France) marking the D Day Landings that took place 70 years ago on the 6th June which thanks to the Armed Forces gave us the freedom we still enjoy today, and that is what made this day ‘special’….

As we then set off in ‘Flamenco Red’ to go and see a small town called Bettina, after parking up and making our way to the harbour we first saw this War Memorial while for such a small place there were a lot of names on both sides of the memorial of soldiers who never came home from WWII, while the centre motif shows one man who did being greeted by his wife and child.

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11D-1.jpg

Although the motif on the other side shows men in a rowing boat either side of that were also names from top to bottom of the memorial….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11D-2.jpg

We then made our way up to the church, which was closed….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11D-3.jpg

Coming back down to the centre through the narrow streets…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11D-4.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11D-5.jpg

Then back to the harbour with this very well preserved old single sail sailing boat….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11D-6.jpg

Looking over the edge into the sea the water was so crystal clear you could easily see the small fish (Centre picture) going along the wall looking for food…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11D-7.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11D-8.jpg

While on the inside of the harbour were these rather LARGE Mussels but they were just out of arms reach if you hung over the edge! ….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11D-9.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11D-10.jpg

As we moved around the harbour I then noticed this extra-large Mussel that must have been all of 4 inches in size but too far away to pick unless you went in the water…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11D-11.jpg

Then after a coffee it was back to the narrow streets for a walk around….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11D-12.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11D-13.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11D-14.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11D-15.jpg

With a last look across to the marina, we made our way back to ‘Flamenco Red’ and back to the campsite…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11D-16.jpg

Then after a late lunch we went down on the small jetty for a bit of Sunshine and a spot of fishing, but also found a couple of Oysters on the rocks of the jetty that were easy to pick….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11D-17.jpg

Must say they were both excellent, so my sincere ‘Thanks’ to the D Day Allies for giving us our freedom to enjoy these things, ‘We will remember’

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11D-18.jpg

While I did catch a couple of fish, but as they were ‘tiddlers’ they went back in…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11D-19.jpg

While finally, as we turned on the TV later we heard about a D Day Veteran who was told he was too frail to go to Normandy, so by himself he got dressed with his medals, then put a raincoat on to cover them up and set off alone to get there.
He made it as his family reported him ‘missing’!
I just hope he met some good people who thanked him and like us were amazed by his tenacity and effort.

Stage 11E “Our last day in Tisno”

Then after 72 Hours with no Internet/WiFi at the last campsite it's now Tuesday I can start updating the Blog again, from the previous Saturday!

Saturday:

After our time here in Tisno this is now our last day in this very tranquil and nice place, while it is rather sad to be on our way after meeting Ivana on reception who has been extremely helpful with information and sorting out a couple of problems for us ….

So we went for a final cycle ride down into the town and called into an Ice Cream and Patisserie shop.

Then while trying out a few words of Croatian with the owner and his wife while buying a pastry for myself and a ‘Jagoda’ (Strawberry) ice cream for my good lady he gave her an extra scoop of Kiwi flavour ‘gratis’ and also presented me with a small double scoop of ice cream ‘gratis’!

We think it was because I made the effort with ‘Dobra Dan’ (Good Morning) ‘Kako si’(How are you?) and ‘Hvala’ (Thank you) while the smile on his and his wife’s faces was wonderful to see.

After a trip then along the opposite side of the town and the view of Tisno below…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11E-1.jpg

We made our way for two coffees in about the only Bar/Café that didn’t have any WiFi, then went across the road for a few items in the market store before heading back to the campsite for some lunch and to start packing up….

Then thanks to a very ‘HOT’ day with virtually no wind we went down to the quayside for a dip in the sea and came back with 5 Oysters….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11E-2.jpg

Which with a cold beer was a wonderful way to round of our final day here!...

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11E-3.jpg

While I must apologise to ssicarman’s wife as I know that she will be even more hungry and jealous when she sees these pictures of the Oysters as they were very nice and as fresh as they could be, but I still had no lemon to go with them!

I was so excited by the size of the final oyster that I managed to get a slightly ‘fuzzy’ picture, so apologies for that, but the taste was exquisite when I ate it!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S11E-4.jpg

Next stop tomorrow is Dugi Rat and campsite Delfin on the seashore with a sandy beach….sounds good!

Stage 12 “Tisno to Dugi Rat/Omis ”

Only 70 miles this morning to our next stop, so we set off on the alternative ‘back road’ from the campsite which meant we did not have to get through the narrow roads in Tisno as we went through the countryside and then through this final short stretch of some houses….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-1.jpg

Before we got back on the main road….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-2.jpg

As we make our way along and pass this? Not sure if it is a church, castle or lookout point….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-3.jpg

Over one of the bridges…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-4.jpg

On the way towards Split but we turn off here and take a ‘back road’….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-5.jpg

With a bit of ‘hill climbing’ and some interesting scenery…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-6.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-7.jpg

The ‘grey’ section in front is a built up section for the Railway….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-11.jpg

Then we came to another one and caught the Loco going across…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-12.jpg

With this quarry in the hillside extracting Marble….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-13.jpg

Still going down towards Split…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-14.jpg

Then after a Left Hand Turn we are back on the Coast Road and the outskirts of Split…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-15.jpg

With the centre of Split on the right hand side as we skirt around….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-17.jpg

We come to the high rise apartments of the city…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-25.jpg

As we came past this church we could see the doors open and the congregation had filled the church and were also outside for the service…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-28.jpg

Not much further and a right hand turn down a fairly steep ramp into the campsite….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-31.jpg

With this lovely little set up that was had a retired couple from Poland in, while I thought the water bottles holding the car cover down was an excellent idea….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-33.jpg

Then in the campsite that was next door but one we see these ‘Tin Tents’ nose to tail, which would rather upset one of the clubs in the UK, as they expect to see a gap of around 10ft between units, which doesn’t seem to work over here in Europe!.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-34.jpg

After a bit of lunch we got the Kayak onto the water for a trip out, not over the ‘Sandy beach’ as the write up would have you believe but over small stones and grit…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-37.jpg

As we managed to stay out of the way of the Ferry….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-38.jpg

Then back on dry land for a nice swim in the sea, then our evening meal and Sunset comes along…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12-39.jpg

WOW! That day went over very quickly, as we then also found that the campsite does not have any Internet Access, so this update will have to wait!

Stage 12 “Our time in Omis”

Monday:

Very windy morning as we think the ‘Bora’ has returned so we decided to walk the 2 miles into Omis for a look around and we were not to be disappointed…..

Set off and we spotted this little ‘square bit’ on the mountain….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-1.jpg

While zooming in produced this….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-2.jpg

Making our way further along I wasn’t sure if we were in some other part of the world like Austria or maybe even South America!….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-3.jpg

But then we came to the official ‘Town Sign’….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-4.jpg

While for a minute I thought this was a monument to a Pop Group….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-5.jpg

Then we just took in the scenery of Omis…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-6.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-7.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-8.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-9.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-10.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-11.jpg

With a nice panoramic…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-12.jpg

Then it was on to the Fire Station!.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-13.jpg

While the lads on duty after asking in both Croatian & German if it was possible, I got this picture of their ‘rest room’!
The ‘Flying Boat’ holds 53,000 Litres of Water and is used on Mountain and inland fires, and takes its water from the Sea!…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-14.jpg

Then I ‘heard’ the music coming from this boat which was superb with a real ‘Rock & Roll’ beat from a Croatian group while the boat looked good as well!…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-15.jpg

Then it was time for a bit of ‘interior exploring’….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-16.jpg

In the narrow streets….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-17.jpg

As we came to a church…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-18.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-19.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-20.jpg

Then we followed the signs for ‘Peovica (Mirabella), so off we go along the path.
Well are you coming or what?….. :p

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-21.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-22.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-23.jpg

Lots of steps, so I hope you have had your breakfast as you will need all your energy to get to the top!....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-24.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-25.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-26.jpg

No! Your NOT there yet, we still have more to go, so come on....Onward & Upward we go!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-27.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-28.jpg

Wartime watch tower….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-29.jpg

As we get to the door to the Castle Tower, outside is a Free WiFi ‘Hotspot’!
UNBELIEVEABLE!

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-30.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-31.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-32.jpg

So after a quick check on the weather, it was up and through the door to the tower….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-33.jpg

Then up the 3 flights of stairs, then a short ladder and out onto the roof for a fantastic view over Omis!.....

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-34.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-35.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-36.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-37.jpg

While here is the small roof which suddenly became occupied with 7 children and 5 adults….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-38.jpg

With a look over the edge back down,

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-39.jpg

Time to get off and back down me thinks!….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-40.jpg

Back down but not yet at sea level…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-41.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-42.jpg

Re-cycled car tyre as ‘Pot Plant’….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-43.jpg

Then we get to the entrance to the Church we saw before….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-44.jpg

While the statue above the door seems to be holding the ‘Scales of Justice’ and I cannot remember what the Sword is for!….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-45.jpg

With some rather interesting ‘protrusions’ in the wall of this building a bit further along….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-46.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-47.jpg

Then back down the narrow streets….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-48.jpg

With another church, but this was closed and locked….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-49.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-50.jpg

Then out of the narrow streets we find ourselves by the river Cetina…

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-51.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-52.jpg

As we look up to our right and see where we had been on the Tower….

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-53.jpg

With some nice river level views…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-54.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-55.jpg

As we come back to what we think is some Roman stonework…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-56.jpg

Then after a bit of lunch followed by coffee and definitely an Ice Cream we started the walk back to the campsite, but the heat was quite intense with very little wind, so we hopped on a Mini Bus as the driver kindly dropped us off outside the entrance to the campsite!....

While a bit later as the heat subsided I took a walk around the large trees on the site to look at the Snails that were up in the tree trunks, and the colours provided by Mother Nature looked rather special while they were all different…..

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-57.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-58.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-59.jpg

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg497/eurorider2/HR2014/S12A-60.jpg

That’s it for Omis, while we planned to stay longer with having no Internet/WiFi onsite it makes it extremely difficult to keep in touch with health related issues back home, as Mobile calls are not cheap!

Next stage is to Podaca & Camping Uvala Borova…
