Add autodimming mirror

I asked my dealer about adding the autodimming mirror and was told it would be very expensive ($1,000) because the front control module was located in the mirror.

Sounds kind of wild as these mirrors are made by a 3rd party and are readily available aftermarket.

Can anybody else comment on this? It sure set off my bs detector.

I find that impossible to believe.  I suggest that you call another dealer.  Depending on what that dealer says, I would call the first dealer back and ask for the manager.  Not knowing an answer and admitting it would be one thing but making something up would be quite another.  The other option would simply be to buy something aftermarket from another make and have it installed.
