View Full Version : Automatic Transmission Boost Spike While Shifting

I have read that it is normal for the boost to spike when shifting gears using an automatic transmission.

What I want to know is:
1) Even though this may be normal, is there any long term damage or engine longevity issues that can occur because of this?
2) Is there a means of controling spiking with the use of an adjustable diverter valve or other divice?
3)Even if the issues are minimal, is there an advantage to controlling the spikes?
4)Am I crazy?

The reason I'm posting this because there dosen't seem to be any concrete information on shift spikes (or I haven't found it). Currently, at full load, I'm boosting to 14psi then spiking to 17psi when shifting. I've also notice a subtle spike when shifting at 8psi it spikes to 10psi.

Mainly I'm posting this because I'm bored with my day and don't have anything else to occupy my time. I'm not overly concerned about this issue and would just like a public or profession opinion on this.

Thanks to all in advance.
