View Full Version : Nokian WR?
Searching Online for Nokian WR G2's for my 2005 XC70.
Can anyone with recent purchasing experience recommend a site that carries them?
Looks to me like there's no WR G3 that fits the OEM size. Thoughts?
Many thanks,
Carl

My understanding from Nokian's site is that the WR has been discontinued (at least in some markets). http://www.nokiantires.com/tyre?id=11884&group=1.01&name=Nokian+WR
If you are looking for a winter go with the Hakkapeliitta R2 SUV. If you are looking for a 4 season look at the WRG2 SUV or WRG3.
In either case, you may have to use 235/60/R16 instead (same overall diameter, slightly wider).

they're great tires...though I am not certain that this is the cheapest that they can be found...
I think 225/60/16 is closer to 215/65/16

The 235/60/R16 is the closest to stock except for width (still fits fine) and is usually a more common offering; but everything is within a ~1/2 of stock with both the 225 and 235, so I don't think there is an appreciable difference.
215/65/R16 - Diameter 27.0 - Width 8.46 - Circumference 84.8 - Side Wall 5.50 - Revs/Mile 747.2
225/60/R16 - Diameter 26.6 - Width 8.86 - Circumference 83.6 - Side Wall 5.31 - Revs/Mile 757.7
235/60/R16 - Diameter 27.1 - Width 9.25 - Circumference 85.1 - Side Wall 5.55 - Revs/Mile 744.5

You guys are lucky down there in the US, the Nokians are running ~$200 CDN (+taxes and enviro fees) each up here in Canada.
Thanks everyone....
My thinking is to get the G3 in case of future tire damage...
So which WR G3 to buy?
No 215/65/R16 available; JRL suggests the 225/60/R16; Any other thoughts?
Thanks,
Carl

I got the 235/60/16 in the WRG2 from STS Tires, they're all over New Jersey and most stores are familiar with the Nokians. They look great (a little more aggresive) and handle absolutely incredible. I have 40k miles on them and driving in the snow/rain stuff we had this morning I felt like I was driving on dry pavement.

I have only had Nokians WR and now WRG2 and will replace in another 10k or less but I usually get 40-45k on a set.... Hands down excellent all season and couldn't be happier in snow.

I just replaced the WRG2s (SUV) on my 05 XC70 and put some on the X1 as well. I just did a local dealer search on the Nokian site and had no problem getting sizes for either car. I went back to the stock 215/65/16 from the 235/60/16 I ran for the last 5 years. I didn't inquire about the WRG3 or future availability of the WRG2. I suppose you could carry an extra (or two) as a full spare and rotate it.

Just bought a set of Nokian Nordman's for winter use from them. They are the largest importer of Nokians in the US. We run WRG2 on the Honda - they are the finest tire in that class IMO.
