Hello,

We have a 2002 XC70 with 166K miles on it. Recently our engine broke (something to do with its ability to increase pressure). The car still runs, but it can't pass inspection. We're considering replacing the motor for 2800+ dollars. Could be up to 3300 dollars though. I'm nervous. I'm wondering if its worth it, or if we should be buying a new car. Any thoughts on this? What other big expenses might be coming up for this car. The transmission? How many more miles can we expect to get out of the car? The replacement motor that our repair shop found has 90K miles on it.

Thanks for any help/opinions/advice,

Emily

Second opinion here is important. Are they saying the engine has no compression? Or possibly the turbo is bad?

At 166k miles you need to carefully evaluate what other work the car needs. Has the suspension already been rebuilt? How about the transmission? Suspension is past due. Transmission could be iffy at this mileage.

Off the top I would say no unless the rest of the car is 110% and you KNOW this for a fact.
