Washed the old beast at the weekend and discovered that both the side turn lights were broken. That is the lens just in front of the front doors.

When I mean broken I mean that just behind the bodywork are two plastic clips, I suppose they might look like a bow tie in effect, but one side had cracked thus making the whole unit loose. Not to the extent that it will fall out but loose anyhow.

Went down to the garage and asked how much for replacements. How much http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/nervous.gif http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/nervous.gif no never http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif 55 pounds each, that close on 98 bucks, EACH.

They are not that broken that a little silicon bead can't fix.

I was wondering if all you people's in the world would get a price (for your Country) for the same and lets compare them, surely a little bit of clear plastic doesn't cost that much and you don't even get the bulb with that, but they said they would fit it for free (whoaaaa) or I could take it and fit it myself. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif

Gimme me a break !! 55£ is $129.00 canadian dollar !!! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif Hope it includes VAT...

I just bought one at $66.00 CAD (28 pounds), including taxes. I think it would be less expensive to come to Canada to buy it! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Wow, that is steep! http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

The retaining clips on one of the side indicator lights also gave way last year during a trip to Vancouver Island. Only thing I had in the car to hold it in place, at the time, was a bit of magic tape. Fortunately, it was just enough to get us to the dealer where we had the thing replaced under warranty. Didn't bother to ask them how much the part was though.

When my drivers side indicators got nailed by a scooter,
the clip toward the front of the vehicle was broken.
My Volvo dealer quoted me US$60 each here in Taiwan.

However, my detail shop fixed it with 1/2 inch strip of 3M padded double sided tapes. And it's been problem free for the past 6months. (even through automatic car wash)

Much cheaper way to go then forging out $60. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif

Blimey, that is a bit OTT http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif

I changed one on my `98 XC last year, had the part delivered to where I work by the local dealer and paid the handsome sum of £12.

I thought that was steep http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blush.gif

Does the light include a wire harness and connector? While a basic side repeater light might cost the company as little as $2-$5 to purchase, by the time they get to the consumer a lot of "middlemen" have added their markup. Wouldn't it be nice if we could buy parts directly from the manufacturers via the web? Of course the dealers would scream bloody murder.

I find many clips used to attach parts frustratingly easy to break. They seem to be designed for one-time installation and often require the replacement of an entire expensive part when they fail. A big reason might be that clips are made of the same material as the rest of the part and lack sufficient flexibility to be "exercised" more than once. Manufacturing and purchasing's gain, repairability's loss.
