Last night I was downtown, and after I parallel parked I opened the door, and almost got nailed by 2 scooters weaving in and out of traffic.
This has happened several times to me already. (with so many scooters here in town it's a big hazard http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/devil.gif )

So, these incidents lead me to installing these reflectors inside the doors.   I remember that older Volvos had these as stardard, I wonder why they discontinued these.

With darker color cars, these reflectors make a big difference at night when your doors are opened.  http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

Very bright idea http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I remember putting relfective tape (the kind used on bicycle) on my very dark old Pontiac many years ago. IMHO, lights on the doors would have been much more useful, on a safety basis, than what I call "shoe shine checking lights" under the side mirror http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif
