I have been driving for over a month now with Nokian NRVs. These are high performance (240kph limit) directional tires which are available at the size suitable for standard XC wheels i.e. 215/65/16. I picked these tires based on excellent german press review and very good customer's reviews. It was also relatively inexpensive and there is not really much in this size available where I live except for OEM Scorpions ST and STR or Dunlop SP 200 (which I have seen quite much lousy customer feedback about), and I want a high performance tire which could handle the extra power from the flashed ECU.
After a week of driving the car developed a pull to the right. I had my wheels realligned and it was still there. However when the wheels when changed L to R, it was gone. The problem is that these are directional tires and you can not flip sides for regular driving. Apparently the pull is quite a frequent problem with Nokians. Except for that their traction on wet is excellent (you do not really feel that you have just cut through an inch of water on the side of the road!http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif, handling very nice and noise very limited. Nevertheless if the pull does not go away I will bite the bullet and scrap these tires...
There is an upgraded model NRVi available now, which has quite diffrent thread pattern but it is still directional....And NRZ (which looks very much like NRV but has much higher speed limit) which my Volvo service owner has on its T5 also pulls to the right...
Although Nokian developed a brilliant reputation with their winter tires, it clearly did not avoid problems with high performance summer ones.....which is a shame because otherwise these would be excellent tires.
