I have a strong feeling that the actual reservoir is cracked. Ii get nothing from my washer nozzles and when I fill the reservoir it just appears on the ground as fast as I pour it into the filler spout. Looks like a real pain to get at the actual reservoir as it is hidden below several other assemblies. Any thoughts?

Though I don't know how to get at it, I always thought this was a really lame design. You can't tell how much fluid is in the resevoir. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif Have Volvo's always/historically had this setup? I would imagine that this would be a warranty item. Have you asked your dealer and are you still under warranty?

Yes, more or less. They've been in approximately the same position and have had similar designs since I've owned Volvos.

It does sound like there's some form of fluid exit in that washer reservoir system. If car is under warranty (especially in first 12 months) your dealership should handle your problem easily and without any fuss.

The washer fluid tank has always been in that approx location on all my Volvos and it's darn hard to get at, I agree. My '86 Volvo has a cracked washer fluid tank near the upper neck so it kinda works but can be a bit flaky at times.

You are pouring water into the right flip capped tank, right ? http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

What year and mileage is on your car?

My XC is a 2001 and it is still under warrantee so yes, the dealer can fix it. It's just that I'd rather not have to drive 50 miles (each way) to have something (that should be as) simple as a washer reservoir replacement done.

1. Call your dealer's service dept and see if they can give you instructions that you feel comfortable in following to resolve the washer tank problem.

2. Failing 1) then you can go it alone but if you mess up you will not be able to claim on your warranty -- or at least you'll have some difficulty if you then take car in and they see that you've messed up the works, so to speak.

My guess is that something more fundamental has happened and it will be best handled by the folks who have the tech knowledge and the correct parts if repairs or parts replacement is necessary.

You could work on it and find something is broken etc and still be faced with driving the 50 miles to get parts or whatever.

Drive the 50 miles and get it done right and under the warranty. Maybe there are other things you want them to check out while you're there at dealership. Try and make the best of it with a smile if you can.

Good luck and post back what the problem was.
