I'm considering swapping my Subaru Impreza Wagon out for a little bigger family car - the XC70. Just got back from a test drive, including a trail of snowy mud - I was blasted away with the abilities of XC70 off road.

I've got the rest of the accessories more or less sorted out, but I'm wondering about the RT - it's far from "ah, I'll just get this as well".

I've seen the TV+RTI's mentioned as "maps on the DVD-ROM". How is that solved on the smaller screen versions, which AFAIK don't have DVD readers?

I live in Estonia - can anyone look if that is covered in the maps or not?

The best place to get a definitive answer to your question of Estonia being mapped for the Volvo Nav System is NavTech (http://www.navtech.com/). I did a quick search on your behalf and found there's no coverage for Estonia http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

I'd contact NavTech via the web-based facility (I've done this and they normally reply withing 2 business days) and ask them when they plan on providing DVD map data for Estonia. The closest map to Estonia appears to be Germany!

In USA we don't have the option for RTI/DVD playing with the Volvo installed Nav System as far as I've been able to figure out -- maybe a safety issue and USA regualtions of some sort -- who knows. In Europe many more options of this kind exist (TV and DVD playing) and appear to be available thru Volvo authorized installation.

Good luck with your decision and purcahse of a fine XC70. Why don't you post your XC70 specs for us?

Thanks for the welcome. I'll search the NavTech and will give the dealers a call on Monday as well. I'm just so impatient and monday seems so darn far. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I doubt the closest to me is Germany - Sweden is much closer to me and I'd find that just a bit too weird if Volvo wouldn't have their home ground covered. http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

As for the RTI and safety - the salesman told me that for exactly these reasons, the TV/DVD only works while parked. Once the car starts rolling, it switches to navi.

As for the specs - it's definitely going to be a T5 with the Geartronic. The max underbody armour I can get (I'm a big fan of off-roading and actually own another Volvo (http://en.tfr.cafe.ee/album/lapplander26092002). The convenience features I do have my preferences on, but given my impatience, I might opt to giving up on some of them if they have a close enough match in the stock, instead of waiting for 3 months for the built-to-order one.

As the crow flies I'm sure you're correct about Sweden being closer -- I was refering to the DVD maps etc. But no matter, Sweden is covered as I used a DVD in my XC70's Nav Sys I picked up a liitle over two weeks ago at FDC/Goteborg.

Yes I believe your sales person is correct -- at around 3 mph the TV/DVD will stop operating.

If you want max armour underneath then opt for the 4mm metal skid plate/engine protector that replaces the standard plastic one. Various forum members have indicated it has saved them from engine damage.

Good luck on your purchase and Monday isn't too far away. Maybe you can spend your time pouring over all the posting in this forum -- it will consume much time http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Whoa... that Lapplander is an awesome looking off road kinda vehicle -- love the pics of it -- thanks.

Also you seem to be an Apple fan/enthusiast http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif  http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif  http://xc70.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif  I'm also one so we must be kindred spirits.
