Got upgraded by Hertz today at LHR from an insignia to an XC 60 D5 diesel. Quite impressed by ride, but plastics aren't to my taste. D5 engine takes time to get going with 4 adults and luggage. 37mpg UK. Thats 30 mpg US.

Jury is out on all the idiot get, BLIS, Lane departure and head on collision are distracting,

mpg down now to 34mpg.....hmmm

But I like it better than our xc70. It handles much better.

But I like it better than our xc70. It handles much better.

I have both a 2002 XC70 (V70XC) and a MY2010 XC60 3.0T ... went for the petrol XCX60 and not the diesel because of the turbo lag.

I agree that the XC60 handles much better than the XC70 but it could be because of mileage (and therefore suspension wear and tear) differences. FWIW, I run 235/60 Yokohamas instead of the 215/65 OEM size tyres on the XC70 - the same width as the XC60 - so the handling difference can not be ascribed to the tyres.

Now the clinch: As I had installed an Elevate (Autotech) tune on my XC70 (176 kW and 390 Nm, up from the standard 147 kW and 285 Nm) it is quite quick and performance-wise nicer to drive than the XC60 - even the 3.0T. Consequently, there is a Polestar upgrade on the XC60 in my future ...

Wish we had access to the diesel XC60.
I would immediately jump on that since my current car is a BMW 335d diesel which I love dearly.

Just test drove a 2014 petrol XC60 yesterday and loved it but the mileage is awful.
Then I heard about the 4 cylinder petrol for 2015.
But still would love the power (torque) of a diesel - wonder if Volvo will ever get the oil burners approved in the USA ???

Over here we have the XC60 in D5, D4, T5 (Ecoboost 2.0L 4 pot) trims.
And after driving all three I'd definitely take the D5 over the other two, especially after a tune, we are talking about 265hp and 550nm!

The head on thing has what I call the Daddy mode. Its gets anxious whenever you get close too another car....and lightly shines four LEDs at you. It also allows you to set the Cruise control and actively manages your distance from the car in front. Now that latter feature has great merit on this 40mph motorway roadwork areas.

349 miles 45 liters...of diesel......29USmpg..... not sure that is enough to make me want to own one at least in the US.
Noticed that while it has all the hi tech safety gear it lacks a common and cheap over Reverse view camera...

Why Volvo why?

Turned it in a week ago. My suspicion is that the xc70 is more us than the xc60. Especially when it comes to transporting two 60lbs dogs! Back seat got credit from the kids for better comfort than our 03-probably since our one has the booster seat built in.

Looked up this old thread of mine.

Just completed 2700 miles in a CRV touring which has all those safety features in it and a few more. This is the future without a doubt. For $31k v Volvo $50k it it much cheaper and gave us 32mpg US

Just thought I'd continue this thread since we now own a 2014 XC60 T6. Bought used, it doesn't have all the driver assist systems the rental had. But wife is happy. Had it for just under two months.
Drove it to SC and back this week. First time I've driven it since before the purchase. Car not stretched or streesed at all by the drive. Got the 25-26mpg that the EPA suggests we should get on the highway. A marked improvement over the 18-19 the old car we used to use on those runs did. On the way back could have done with all the adaptive cruise etc features to reduce the workload between the Tappanzee bridge and Hartford CT. Traffic was constantly getting up to speed, slowing etc.
