View Full Version : Do I need more rugged shocks?

Hi,

I have a 2005 xc70 without the active chassis system option and living in rural Colorado. Light off roading is getting a bit bumpy. After reading some post here i had came up with two questions...
1- How do I know if simply replacing my shocks with a similar brand I currently have will improve ride comfort. Or 2- what I really need is a more rugged shocks to improve ride quality?

I don't want to buy a Jeep just yet...

Thanks

Supa

Nothing available that's
"more rugged"

But if yours are worn, that's not helping...

This is an 07 with over 115K miles
Everything suspension wise has been renewed, it's not "bumpy" and on a gravel road, it was very nice riding.
You need to rebuild the (entire) suspension, you'll find it "adequate".

Thanks for the input.

Is there a way to determine when your suspension is worn out?

I just bought this car so I don't have anything to compare it to. I have 88K miles on it. I don't have trouble is a rough ride on paved road, just want to smooth out the off road experience.

At 88k I wouldn't think anything should be worn out other than front sway bar links.

XC suspension is VERY soft, not really made for offroad.

Go see a company like BADSWEDE if you want more offroad capability.

Bilstein :)

Got 'em on the T5, had them on the truck before I lifted it.

But Bilstein doesn't make struts for the XC last I checked.

So, I went with Sachs, sold through IPD...

Thanks for the input. I'll do more spin-off research.

Sounds like you need more mighty springs first.
