Transmission Serial Number And Car At Factory

I need to know the serial number on my transmission. I found this by Xheart: “Look straight down with a flashlight, next to the yellow dipstick. You may want to clean the surface a little”. Hope the serial number is engraved. When I needed to see the engine number on the timing cover by cleaning it, the serial number cleaned off and left me with blank white label.

If I find the serial number, is there any possibility of relating it to the car? That is, is a transmission number linked to the car it was mounted on (from factory). Is there a way I can tell if the transmission is the original one the car had from factory? I would really like to find this out – I need it for something very important.

I hope someone would help me here 'cause I really need this.

It's on a stamped plate on the transmission itself. Get a bright light....

Question is: who cares what the serial number is? Why do you want to know?
